Presenting EXCAVATOR MAYHEM — a vast collection of massive sounds captured from a real backhoe loader in action with its engine off. Mud & Water is the first volume in this series, packed with everything you need to shake your audience with authentic, colossal recordings drawn from every imaginable liquid texture. No layering, no sound design — what you hear is exactly how it sounded on site.
This library condenses more than 5 hours of recordings from 4 sessions into a curated collection, captured at a riverbank, a swamp, and a pit dug with the excavator, where a spring began filling it with groundwater, creating a massive water pool. Combined with the excavator’s boom, this setting allowed me to perform large-scale foley actions such as impacts, drops, splashes, splatters, bubbles, drains, waterfalls, and much more.
Some recordings were captured with up to 10 channels across 4 microphone perspectives, including A-format ambisonics and an experimental stereo geophone that managed to capture rich underwater textures without the need for a hydrophone. These are available in the RAW folder, while the PROCESSED folder contains both downmixes from all microphones and subtly refined versions of the sounds with light compression and EQ—nothing too aggressive, just to give you more “ready-to-go” files.
Captured over five years in a secluded forest house — THUNDER CLAPS delivers the raw, untamed power of nature.
Recording lightning strikes at close range is one of the most difficult — and dangerous — things in field recording. Capturing them in a secluded home in the heart of the countryside has made this process a bit easier.
Now sit and feel the intensity of authentic close, medium, and distant thunder strikes, booms, and rumbles — recorded at up to 32-bit / 192kHz resolution for unmatched detail and dynamic range.
There are no other sounds in these files but the booming of the strikes. All tracks feature clean, isolated thunder claps — NO rain, NO wind, NO background noise — so you won’t waste time cleaning or editing. Just drag, drop, and unleash the storm.
Note: The SoundCloud demo includes a rain texture just for protection purposes. This is not included in the library.
Over 28 minutes of startups, idling, takeoffs, hovering, approaches, pass-bys, and shutdowns from an Airbus three-blade helicopter, delivered in both stereo and ambisonic formats.
Also you’ll receive a processed folder containing 24 additional files featuring engine failures, whine ramps, distant fly-bys and other helicopter sound simulations. These have been crafted exclusively from the original source files, showcasing the flexibility of this library and the creative possibilities it offers.

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.

I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
