Rome – Surround Sound City is a library of surround sound environments filled with unique elements and fragments, designed to tell the story of a chaotic and noisy city like Rome through sound.
The recordings were made using five discrete microphones and the INA-5 recording technique (with some sessions utilizing the QUAD IRT CROSS configuration). These soundscapes are ideal for creating an immersive audio experience, particularly in a cinema setting, delivering a realistic sense of space and depth surrounding the listener.
Captured over a span of approximately two years, the recordings reflect the diversity of Rome across different seasons, times of day and night, from the bustling city center to the quieter outskirts, and even the vibrant nightlife of the city’s younger crowd.
The Rome – Surround Sound City library focuses on the unique sounds of the urban environment: the hum of streets and traffic, the chatter of locals, the whirring of scooters, fans cheering in front of pubs, car protests celebrating Roma’s victory, trams rumbling by, scooters navigating cobblestones, and elderly women gossiping in front of bars. It paints an authentic sonic portrait of Rome, capturing the essence of its diverse neighborhoods, from the heart of the city to its outer edges.
All files have been meticulously edited in Pro Tools, with metadata managed via Soundminer. The library also includes photos and artwork, with file names standardized according to the UCS method.
