MAGNIFICENT ENGINES IN MOTION
Jet engines are a very unique kind of sound producers. Gaseous or liquid fuel is violently mixed with extremely dense compressed air and then gets burned (don’t do this at home). And this is only one element of the sound. Others are the fan, the compressor, the combustor, the turbine – what the heck – it sounds amazing.
SMALL AIRPORT AVIATION SOUNDS FOR YOUR PROJECT
The SB107 SM AIRPORT Sounds Effects Library is a collection of helicopters, small commuter jets, single propeller, twin propeller sounds and more all recorded on a small airport runway.
YOUR SECRET FOR SMALL AIRPORT AVIATION SOUNDS
We spent a few days on the runway of the Santa Monica, California airport capturing a bunch of small aviation sounds not normally found in sound effects libraries. We then edited down the hours of recordings to come up with the most useful 129 sounds for you. This includes recordings of take-off and landing passbys from Cessna, Pilatus PC-7, Sia Marchetti Turbo, Steerman Bi-Plane, T-28 Trojan and other aircrafts. There’s even a plane landing tire chirp included this library. These sounds are focused on take-off, landings and engine taxiing at a small airport – including long tails on take-off and landing for realistic placement in your project. We even captured a few neat recordings of the pushback tug tractor and sounds from some rarely recorded military helicopters. Every file has Soundminer compliant metadata embedded, and an organized file naming structure, so you can spend less time searching, and more time creating.

This audio collection offers a library of aircraft and train passes and bys (and a random helicopter) , captured over two nights in my garden which is under the London Gatwick Airport flighpath and a nearby railway line. Designed for professionals seeking authentic and high-fidelity audio, this collection provides a rich tapestry of sonic experiences.
Aircraft Recordings:
Commercial Jet Traffic: Recorded overnight under the Gatwick flight path at night to minimize extraneous noise, these recordings capture the distinct sounds of various commercial jetliners operating at approximately 5,000 feet. The collection encompasses a range of aircraft types, offering a nuanced perspective on the acoustic signatures of modern aviation.
Private and Light Aircraft: Complementing the commercial jet recordings, this mini collection also features a variety of smaller private jets and a propeller plane operating around 2,500 feet. These recordings provide valuable insight into the sonic characteristics of lighter aircraft, further diversifying the collection’s offerings.
Altitude Data: Each aircraft recording is accompanied by approx altitude data, verified by a reliable flight tracking application. This metadata adds another layer of information for sound designers and editors, enabling them to select recordings that accurately reflect specific aircraft types and flight operations.
Train Recordings:
Commuter Train Variety: Captured approximately 20 feet from the railway line, these recordings showcase the diverse soundscape of commuter rail traffic. The collection features an array of train types, each with unique sonic characteristics defined by varying speeds, weights, and configurations. This diversity ensures that sound professionals have access to a comprehensive palette of authentic train sounds. There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
