Find sounds from 100s of different cars, recorded and curated by some of the world’s finest sound recordists. The recordings include engine sounds, passbys, constant driving at different speeds, foley-type sounds such as car doors and windows opening and closing, braking, skidding and spinning and much more.
This is a modern and unique library of a Chevrolet Camaro 2000 Z28, 5.7 litre LS1 V8 engine with a loud and throaty 3.5 inch MagnaFlow exhaust. It includes exterior (both engine and exhaust mics) and interior stereo perspectives, plus Foley. Note that the 4-track files are not quad recordings, but intended to be separated into two different monos and a stereo. Enjoy!
My car engine broke! As a result of making a huge costly mistake caused by accidentally skipping an oil change service from getting dates and miles mixed up (on top of being a higher milage car), my 2006 Volvo V50 T5’s engine starting making incredibly loud knocking, clicking and rattling sounds. Took it for one last drive before it was picked up by a junk yard, and recorded the process. I put a DPA 4061 and a Rode NT5 in the engine and drove it around the neighborhood, first on residential streets, then drove it harder on some faster streets (the engine was so loud you can’t hear any other cars in the recordings), abusing the manual mode for higher rpm recordings the whole time until it started overheating, smoking and dumping liquid (coolant I think? Oil? Both?). I Quickly took the DPA out because it was right near a section of the engine that was overheating, but I left the NT5 in. Satisfied with what I recorded but still a couple miles from home, after my car cooled a bit I continued to record my drive home, this time with the DPA inside the car to get an interior perspective (this drive is labeled “bonus drive” in the library).
This library is just 5 files, totaling 27 minutes and 28 seconds, 24/96k, 956MB. Quality Soundminer metadata and UCS compliant. Recorded with a DPA 4061 and NT5 for starts, idles, off, revving, slow to moderate driving, harder faster driving, with lots of variation. One file is just the NT5 engine recording for an additional 5 and a half minute drive, and one is just the DPA for an interior perspective of that drive.
I’ll miss that car a lot, but at least I got some great recordings out of it! I hope you find them useful.

Recordings of a heavily modded Nissan GT-R with a turbocharged 3.8 litres V6 and 500 hp. The recording consists of eight channels, interior left and right, exhaust left and right, three engine and one turbo.
It contains startup, idle, blips, revving at constant rpms without gear, engine stop, horn, door slams, accelerating and decelerating at different speeds, driving and a eight channel surround drive by. The recording length is 22 min.
Need high-impact car crash sounds – captured from both the inside and outside of a car? While there are no sounds of actual monsters attacking a car, there's certainly a lot of of recordings of sound-guys jumping on car roofs, beating car doors, smashing windshields and destroying paint jobs, with a big axe, and a crowbar.
Low sense DPA 4061 microphones were placed inside a car, and different actions were performed on it, like hitting, dragging, jumping, stepping and other improvising actions.
Microphones were also placed inside and outside the car, and windshields were smashed, with crowbars. These recordings covered the massive impacts as well as the small detailed glass pieces falling inside the car.

The L.A. Freeways sound effects library captures the traffic ambience on the massive freeways that run through the Greater L.A. area – 3 hours of recordings in total!

This rare and unique sounding car library features 74 high quality files recorded with multi mic setup. This sound collection covers a wide range of sounds produced by this unique racing (kit)car from 1991. The engine is custom built and is a combination of elements of a Citroën 2CV engine and a Citroën Visa engine. This extensive collection of vehicle recordings contains a full work up from a 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE, 2.0L. Complete with onboard and external recordings made at different speeds and performing different manoeuvres. Hear the distinctive sound of this Land Rover engine roar into action as its put through its paces in Dirt & Asphalt Vol.3.
This library features 6 channel HD onboard recordings, with 2 microphones placed inside the engine bay, a stereo microphone placed inside the interior and individual microphones placed by each exhaust outlet pipe on the rear of the vehicle. A pro tools session is provided that takes all the effort out of arranging and preparing these recordings for mixing. Just launch the session, add your favourite DSP and render your own mix in minutes.
Stationary revving, speed runs, slow driving, stopping and starting are all included in this collection with onboard and external recordings. There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
