  • Nature & Countryside Ambiences Dormant Village Play Track 6 sounds included, 12 mins total $36

    Discover the quaint charm of a sleepy Northern English town, on a cold and windy night, the sound of windchimes shimmering through the air.

    The Dormant Village Library was recorded in a small village in North Yorkshire, England, on the night before Christmas. It was very cold and windy, and there were almost no people around, as everyone was sipping hot cocoa in their homes.

    The library was recorded in a few different locations, some close to the little traffic that was still present, and some further away. The recordings were then polished and edited down to just about 12 minutes, preserving the essence of the location.

    In addition to the descriptive SoundMiner metadata embedded in the files, I have also added markers in iZotope RX, which can be read in some versions of SoundMiner, Reaper, etc.

    The markers indicate small sonic events, such as distant, melodic windchimes, or when the wind picks up, allowing you to understand what happens throughout the recording without having to listen to the whole thing.

    KEY FEATURES:

    •Created using an acoustic guitar in open A (E-A-C♯-E-A-E) and open D (D-A-D-F♯-A-D) tunings.
    •Don’t worry about the wind drones clashing with the music in your project. The notes are listed in the filenames for easy pitch shifting!
    •Open guitar tunings allow the strings to resonant freely in the wind as beautiful chords
    •Strong 20-40 mph winds

    •A violin bow was used to bow the strings in a few clips.
    MICROPHONE TECHNIQUE:
    •All recordings were made outdoors.
    •A Sennheiser MKH 50 and 30 in Mid/Side were using for most recordings
    •DPA 4060s were used under the strings of the guitar to capture more overtones. In a few cases, I combined a DPA 4060 and Sennheiser MKH 30 and matrixed it as mid/side for a unique perspective.
    •Bowed guitar clips were recorded in ORTF.
    TEXT MARKERS:
    •Named markers are included in each file to help find interesting events in files with multiple variations.
    •Markers are included in the Soundminer and BWAV description fields starting with the prefix “Marker Text”.
