This past week on A Sound Effect, we’ve had new libraries that couldn’t be more sundry. We have ambiences from greater Berlin and beyond, suburban countrysides and windy forests. For those with more cinematic projects, we have new footsteps for the Edward engine, as well as modern firefights and explosions. Or for the machinists out there, check out the new BMW E-36 library (with a Supra 2JZ engine!) and a mechanical library that will voice all your robotic joints.
What do you hear when you take a walk in the forest, one not desolate and secluded from humanity, but nearby, where you'd likely take a daily or weekly walk? More likely than not, you'd hear something contained in this library. With summer storms, lumberjacks, farm animals, birds, flies, watermills and more, 'Countryside' by Original Sound packs in a lot of pleasant scenarios in its 46 files. Oh, and for a limited time you get 20% off all SFX libraries from Original Sound.
Recording wind without clipping or birds interrupting is like painting a house without getting paint on you. It's possible, but you must be very, very careful. If you've fought the birds and the thumps, and you are not looking forward to editing your disasters, give 'Windy Forest' by Norsonant a listen. With soft, moderate and strong wind sounds from tall trees, creaking trees, thickets, hill tops, and more - all from the deep forests of Norway - this library is sure to give your game or film the immersion you're looking for.
'Collected Ambiences' by SoundBits now has FIVE libraries in its collection! These new libraries have more ambiences from train stations, buses, shopping malls, residential areas, fairs, plazas, markets and more from greater Berlin - totaling 165 files, and over 15 GB and almost 600 minutes of content. Currently, if you buy all five, you will receive a 25% discount.
If you're after the sounds of the Edward Extended SFX library - without the need for NI Kontakt, this library is for you: 'Edward - Foleyart Collection Add-On' by Tovusound is a 2.6 GB library that contains almost 9,000 footsteps and 14 combinations of shoes and surfaces. Now your character can walk on metal, rocks, asphalt, diamond and more - and they're available in good ol' WAV format.
This new library from Double Trouble Audio will cover your military needs with specific scenarios that are missing from most weapons libraries. 'Modern Combat' not only features handling and reloading sounds, it also has distant firefights, machines guns, explosions, flares, yelling and the distinct AT-4 Rocket Launcher, famous for its hollow body and massive firepower. Rounding out the soundscape, Double Trouble Audio even included jeep and tank driving sounds!
'Machine Hall' by Double Trouble Audio is a pack of sounds designed for robots, industrial environments and machines. It features air compressors, rotors, heavy industry ambiences, and small motors, making it a perfect match for the anatomy of your robot and mechanical characters. So check out this library and embrace your inner steampunk and sci-fi sound designer!
Once again we have a new muscle car to flesh out your beast - this time with the 'BMW E-36 with Toyota Supra 2JZ Engine' library by Phonophilist. This collection was recorded for maximum quality with seven 9-channel recordings. Three channels covered the engine, while two covered the exhaust from the outside and two others recorded from the interior. As to be expected, this library has sounds of sweeps, ignition, idling and accelerations, however, laced with all the Supra growls and peaks you could want.
