Winter in the City features 60 beautifully and professionally recorded ambient sounds of Toronto, Canada, all recorded over the course of 4 winters, 2016 through 2020. All files are mastered in Pro Tools Ultimate and meticulously categorized in Basehead Ultra 2020 and is Universal Category System compliant. They are all checked for phase coherency.
This album features winter city airs recorded around the city in the morning, day, evening, night and vary late night.
Many tracks were recorded in parks, quiet residential streets, downtown core, downtown roof tops, the lakeshore, city squares, and parking lots. These recordings were recorded in sub-freezing temperatures so they don’t have birds or insects and are great for general air fillers and quiet scenes. The album includes Omni Spaced Pair (A/B), ORTF, MS, and XY polar patterns.
Also featured are market places, traffic driving through snow and slush, hockey being played in the park, various activities with people, and winter winds.

Crunch: Destruction & Demolition
This UCS compliant album was recorded in Toronto, Canada on a cold December day in 2020. I waited for months for this 2 story building to be demolished and finally the day came. I was able to get within 20 meters of all of the demo, and most of the wall collapses happened within 6 meters of me. The album contains sounds of an entire store being ripped down by an excavator with a claw attachment, including the roof being torn away, walls collapsing, massive piles of debris being dragged across concrete and tons of building debris.
Although this album was recorded in the city, it was freezing out and the middle of a massive parking lot, so far from traffic, and no birds, insects or otherwise loud activity. I was able to point my Sanken CS3e at the entire 4.5 hour process. The cover photo is a pic I snapped, and I’ve posted a few more and a video on our blog.

We used a Sanken CS3-e shotgun mic for reach and Ambient ATE-208 (2nd Version) for ambient reflections, and the Tascam DR100-mkiii stereo recorder.
These ambiences were mastered in Protools HD to maintain healthy levels and check for phase discrepancies.  They were recorded and mastered as 24Bits 96kHz sample rate.
The provided files LR and MS correspond with the encoded and decoded format of Mid/Side.
LR = Decoded
M/S = Encoded (raw files)
All files strictly follow the UCS guidelines, CatID is stored in the ShortID field, and all metadata fields are searchable via iXML, BEXT, and ID3v2.
These recording were originally a 4.5 hour recording that had been painstakingly edited and mastered down to just over 1 hour of the best content. All M&E friendly.

This library of only the highest quality sounds of the body was recorded over several long and precarious nights. It was a labor of love, as we starved ourselves for the perfect stomach grumbles, and gagged ourselves for authentic puking sounds. We hope you can find many uses for this library, and we hope it brings your next project to the next level!
Features sounds such as:
Bone cracks, breathing, burps, chewing, coughs, eating, farts, gagging, gargling, grumbles, hiccups, kissing, nose blows, puking, rumble, scratching, sneezes, spitting, swishes, throat clears, yawns
All recordings were recorded in a Foley studio at 192kHz with a Fostex FR-2 recorder, Project Studio C4 mic, and Ambient Emesser ATE-208 bi-directional mic and mastered in Pro Tools.
This library is all about wheels – and lots of them! Includes recordings of a selection of objects with wheels such as carts, transport stretchers, gurneys, rolling stands, shelves, IV stands, wooden tables, wheelchairs – and all the button clicks, slides, latches, and electronics that come with them.
All sounds were recorded in Mid/Side technique with mid on the left channel and side on the right. Recorded with Project Studio C4 mics, Sennheiser 416 Mics, Ambient Emesser, on a Fostex FRÂ2 2 track recorder and mastered in Pro Tools.
The left side of the RAW files can be used as a MONO center effect and the encoded files as a stereo effect which has the width of an XY configuration and can be panned center for a mono compatible mix.
rMS = Raw Mid/side
MS = Decoded Mid/Side

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
