For a springtime, I wandered through the city of Kyoto, Japan, strolling through the streets and parks equipped with the surround recording system. I discovered a very interesting sonic universe, surprisingly calm and peaceful for a city of this magnitude. The recordings in this collection were made during the day, and the diversity of recording locations takes us into the daily lives of the inhabitants of this beautiful city.
This surround sound library includes ambiences from :
- Markets
- Parks and temples
- Alleys, streets, and avenues
Kyoto attracts many tourists, especially during spring when cherry blossoms are in full bloom. However, tourist areas are highly targeted, and even though some recordings were made in these areas, I distanced myself as much as possible to avoid being influenced by voices and presences other than those of the locals. In the streets, pedestrians, bicycles, and modern vehicles circulate calmly, children play in the parks.
This collection of sounds will be useful for creating a Japanese urban sonic environment.
