Bowed Cymbal is a collection of 100 sounds, pristinely recorded, edited and mastered at 96k/32bit-float stereo wave files.  In addition, Soundopolis has included 4 uniquely designed sequences mixed in 5.1 surround, to help spark your creativity in the use of this library.  These sequences only use elements from this library, which are manipulated in various ways, and run through a reverberation plug-in.

The Recording

David Fienup, owner of Soundopolis, was giddy with excitement to make use of his new Voice Over and Foley booth to record some new sound effects.  What better way than to experiment with some old, broken cymbals he inherited from his old neighbor, former-bandmate, and friend, Intermedia Artist – Steve Joslin.  Pair that with his wife’s old violin’s bow, and you get some fantastic sounds.

Fienup used a Rode NT-4, running through a Sound Devices 302, to make use of its great preamps and limiters, and then into his AVID HD Omni. Pro Tools Ultimate with HDX and Omni, as well as iZotope Rx 6 were used in the editing and mastering.

Metadata was embedded using SoundMiner HD, with UCS

The two broken cymbals used were a Paiste Fast Crash 17”, and a Paiste Sound Edge Hi-Hat 13” Top.
