Train Sound Effects

Modern train sounds, steam train recordings, passing and distant trains, closely recorded trains, engines

  • Contained in this library are authentic Chicago environmental and transportation ambiences.  You will find ambience inside and outside the famous L train, street cars and Chicago bus routes.  As well, as a few memorable ambiences from the street-side and also down by the water. Recorded in high resolution, this library will put you right in the virtual seat of the city of neighborhoods!

  • Anybody familiar with travelling on the London Underground will be aware of the distinct soundscapes beneath the streets of London; from the clatter of the ticket hall barriers to the eerie rumbles from the tunnels, waiting in anticipation for the next train to come rushing past before stopping with the squeal of the brakes.

Each type of train on the network has its own distinct characteristics such as the moaning of the electric traction motors or the peculiar sound of the 1996 Stock used on the Jubilee Line.

All of these sounds have been beautifully captured in 24-bit 48KHz quality- recorded both with XY stereo microphones and binaurally- creating a highly realistic experience for headphone users.

    Note to users:
As many of you will know, like many urban transit systems, the London Underground is littered with pre-recorded public announcements.
These recordings have been extensively edited to the highest quality to ensure that these pre-recorded announcements have been removed where possible.
  • Old and new types of freight trains recorded with a high quality binaural dummy head. All tracks are recorded up close to capture all the characteristics of each freight train.

  • Distant Trains Sound Library delivers impressive multi-channel recordings of trains that pass by in a distance of at least 300 meters up to 1.5 kilometres.

Included are pass bys of freight, commuter and passenger trains plus single locomotives.
In order to capture the impressive walls of sound caused by passing trains an arrangement of 6 microphones was used. This setup encompasses stereo-pairs of MKH3040-MS, MKH8090-ORTF and MKH8040-WideAB. All pairs are recorded to separate files that are now available as time-aligned Reaper sets.
Each recording session took place at nights so that it was possible to capture extremely long approaches and tails that fade out to natural and calm night ambience without any disturbance by road traffic or other unwanted noises.

  • All aboard!

Trains: Rail Squeals And Passes, first recordings were made back in 2012 where sounds of specific screaming metallic train rails were needed for a documentary. Since then, multiple of the favourite locations for recording the special sounds have been visited, and the sounds have been used in countless features, documentaries and radio dramas. Very different and interesting recordings, some comical and some chaotic and brutal, have made it through to the final commercial set.

When the conditions are right, and trains pass a tight corner at a specific speed, the train wheel cuts into the rails below, making this horrendous sound. This is known as curve screaming, and can produce some really scary metallic squealing.

Besides regular train passes at different speeds, this set has files covering ear piercing rail squeals, breaking sounds and massive rail clacking sounds both from diesel powered and electrical trains.Trains Rail Squeal And Passes included 62 tracks and is about 2.2 Gb big when unzipped. All tracks have been carefully mastered and are all UCS compatible!

  • Sounds of Trains, Skytrain, and Railways from western Canada

Trains are one of the most efficient methods of transportation. This library offers high-quality sounds of Trains, Railways, and Skytrains. There are different perspectives, speeds, sizes, and variations. To give you the full package, you get a mass of great interior and exterior handling sounds on top. • This library contains 17 different trains as they pass through the station, arrive and depart a rural station in Sweden. Trains include double decker passanger trains, local metro passanger trains, and few heavy freight train passes. They were recorded with two 4060s on the tracks with a mkh60 following, they are syncable.

These have a nice isolated stereo image and great for sound designing space ships and sci fi stuff. Also work Wonderfully for transition elements and corporate video introductions. Feel free to inquire before buying here.

The shinkansen, or bullet train, is a symbol of Japan’s economic and technological prowess. Streaking by at speeds of up to 200mph, their sound pierces over miles of empty farmland. In rare spots where you can get near the tracks, the air pressure bursts of these trains passing by can knock you off-balance.

Recording coverage between models vary quite a bit, so please check the tracklist to get a sense of what is available per bullet train model.

Note: The W7 series bullet trains were recorded within their first month entering service, well before they had time to wear-in.
