Vehicle sound effects and recordings – cars, helicopters, motorcycles, airplanes, ships, trains and sci-fi
The BMW K100 rs Motorcycle library was recorded by placing 2 dpa 4060s on the engine, and two ME4 on the bike itself.
I then used a pair of cm3s to catch drive bys, and a few takes of driving with the boom pointed at the muffler while riding.
It contains wild foley of clicks and gear changes and sound of engine servo before ignition starts.
It is straight forward and has many different varieties so that you will be able to us it for all of your applications. Feel free to inquire about special sounds or takes before you buy here.
‘BMW X5M’ by Flysound is a comprehensive sound catalogue for this highly-tuned performance champion. The suite of 328 recordings is a systematic compilation authored by a dedicated full service post-production team, deploying Neumann U87s, Neumann USM69, Sonosax, Sound Devices 788Ts, Aaton Cantar-X2s, and further top quality recording equipment.
The subject of the suite is a 750 horsepower high-performance road dominator, while also remaining the dream car for suburban soccer moms. Our BMW X5M and its professional driver have been tracked from a myriad of angles and distances, both external and onboard, from the moment the doors close and a seatbelt fastens, right down the gamut of revs, take-offs, turns, passes-by, skids, pedal slams, handbraking, gearshifting, and panel buttoning galore with all the corresponding actions as the BMW’s fabled “M” division SUV variant peels away fast, chugs along slow, or just cruises an everyday commute. In short: Everything you’ll need, all the maneuvers manifested by the immensely powerful and versatile 4.4 litre bi-turbo gasoline engine, here in this suite.
The symphonic grace of this German masterpiece in motion is captured with orchestra-grade studio equipment and field kit, by professionals, for professionals, ready to be used as authentic sound, ready to be arranged into seamless edits and proper 5.1 post-production. The 96kHz/24bit synced and multi-channel recordings have comprehensive metadata tags giving full position, microphone, and action detail. This catalogue constitutes the canon of sound for BMW X5M (M for motorsport), whether you seek the sound of a high-octane road ruckus, or an everyday trip to the supermarket. The suite is parked here, ready to give you the exact audio you need.
This library gets you both the sounds of a tugboat / motor engine boat, as well as a sailboat.
It delivers powerful boat engine sounds such as accelerations, stopping and idle sounds. You also get radio VHF chatter, cabin roomtone, splashing waves, the sounds of anchors being dropped and handled and mainsail hoisting sounds. There's also lots of ropes creaking and squeaking, winches, furlers, genoas flapping and raising, sailboat interiors with light swells. Finally, it includes some quiet ambiences from a big city marina.
So if your project calls for boat sounds, there's lots to work with here:
Vehicles: Boats 1: Ferry Sound FX is a sound library of three types of ferry boats: a 7-ton, 12,000 horsepower car and passenger ferry, a 400-person SeaBus ferry, and a small 12-person AquaBus ferry.
This collection highlights field recordings captured while riding the vehicles. There are a variety of tracks from holds and positions on the boats: upper, lower, and mid-holds, as well as recordings at the prow and stern. These tones can also work as industrial tones as well. This boat sound library also includes maneuvering and bow wash tracks. Includes over 15 fields of Soundminer metadata.
40 professionally recorded aircraft – features the Red Arrows, RAF Tornado jet fighter, Hurricane and Spitfire aircraft, and many more.

The sound bundle gathers 17 tandem takes of interior and exterior recordings. The 7 onboard perspectives arrange microphones in the cockpit, turret, and cannon flying at fast, medium, and slow speeds. The exterior microphones include 9 perspectives and 19 channels of audio. Those takes depict the aircraft starting, idling, taxiing, taking off, flying by, and landing and turning off. Also included are static recordings of idling at various RPMs with additional exhaust perspectives. The collection also offers a variety of performed effects of hatches, brakes, throttle, and more, with every take embedded with Soundminer, BWAV, and MacOS Finder metadata.
This library consists of two different sessions where we dropped cars from a crane onto other cars and onto the ground. The first session contains lots of windows being smashed and sounds of car body debris from two hanging cars scratching against each other. During this session, microphones were positioned inside the vehicles as they were dropped from the crane as well. The left side of the onboard recorder comes and goes, but we decided to leave it in the library since it has some very nice bits in it.
I have been spending days at the local auto salvage yard, which is where our 4-wheeled friends end their days – and here's the result:
The Car Doors library gets you 78 mono door open/close sounds from 30 cars, and 6 car trunks, with multiple passes on each for soft and hard closes – all metadata tagged and ready to go!
Before the poor things were being torn apart for spares and placed on top of each other, I had the pleasure of recording a lot of their doors, opening and closing. As they were rubbish anyway, I could really put all my weight into the closing, and not being scared of the consequences. The sounds are from everyday cars, and some had a bit of rattle and rust, or cheap and thin kind of sound to them, others had some nice, heavy, and convincing thump, to them when they closed.

Chain Ferry features the remarkable sounds of a 100 year old ferry with a specific drive system. The ferry pulls along a strong chain lying at the ground of the river to cross. This is achieved by a clever combination of 3 drive wheels that guide the chain and prevent it from dropping to the ground.
The Library contains several complete audio takes of the ferry in action – from departure to arrival. This encompasses engine start, engine idle, loading ramp noises and bangs plus a lot of chain rattling from various perspectives. The sounds are recorded aboard and from both sides of the river so that the entire scenery can be covered acoustically.

We had the chance to make the crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean on a cargo ship container (ATLANTIC STAR).
We boarded in the Antwerp industrial port in Belgium, sailed the English Channel, and then stopped at Liverpool’s industrial port.
Then we crossed the North Atlantic Ocean to reach Halifax, Canada. This trip took us 10 days, 10 days of sounds recording.
Through this trip, we were able to access places that normally are closed to the public: industrial ports, and a container ship.

We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
A Sound Effect is a great resource for keeping up on what's out there in the SFX library world. The site is well organized and it's easy to find stuff.

A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
