Sound effects packs, sample libraries and instruments in the NI Kontakt format
3 mic perspectives give full coverage on an antique typewriter in good working condition. The typewriter had a loose front plate and we clacked, hit and dropped it for a wide range of cool typewritery sounds. The Kontakt instrument presets requires the full version of NI Kontakt 4.2.3 or later.
The “Cedar” library series is a collection of libraries, comprised of three different instruments:
– Ponticello (the present one)
– Sul Tasto
– Bizzarro
Each volume is a single Kontakt instrument with a peculiar timbral personality. The entire series is created recording sounds from a luthier classical guitar. They can be used for composing and producing purposes – like an acoustic percussion setup – as well as for soundtrack composition and sound design in films, video games and any other multimedia product. “Ponticello” and “Sul Tasto” also feature a dedicated effects page that can be used to process the sounds in the library with several processors, both send and insert effects. They are “percussion oriented” sounds, while “Bizzarro” is a keyboard instrument.
Introduction to “Ponticello”
The instrument contains 10 sets of sounds, called “Engines”. Each set has a dedicated channel strip in the interface and can be processed with a dedicated sub-page. You can also choose an individual audio output for further processing in your favorite DAW with effect plugins of your choice. Each sound has been recorded with two different mic placements, and you can mix them to your taste.
Remington Rand is an early American typewriter and adding machine manufacturer formed in 1927. The last Remington Rand branded business machine rolled off the line in 1958. The adding machine that we acquired was an electric version in good working condition. Remington Rand also manufactured things like shavers, pistols and calculators.
Our adding machine has a big electronic mechanism for the summing function and nice heavy clacks for the regular keys. It also had some very sticky metal plates that would occasionally get stuck and then pop loose with a big resonant ringing sound. This specific defect made an incredibly interesting sound that is very unique to this specific machine’s wear and tear.
As with the Burroughs Protectograph we miked it with three different mono perspectives to produce three very different sounds on each move. We used Schoeps CMC6/MK4 mics on the front and back and an AT4050 for the wide perspective in mono. The close perspectives are great for big thick clicks and mechanisms, and the wide is excellent for use in one offs for bgfx tracks.
The Heads Up Display Sound Design Toolkit is a special version of the regular Heads Up Display sound effects library: Not only does it feature the regular SFX library – it also contains a special Sound Design Toolkit version.
Boom Box Library’s sound design toolkits allow you to create endless variations, tailoring sounds specifically to the needs of your project. All sound effects are pre-mapped to the sampler Kontakt by Native Instruments, and can be triggered with a MIDI keyboard or further manipulated with a tablet via our custom TouchOSC layouts.
Together, these tools give you the hands on experience of performing live changes such as pitch and time alteration as well as playing back multiple layers of sounds at once. Our Toolkits take you beyond simple editorial, giving you everything you need to design your own unique take on the Boom Box Library sound.
Features the internal tech sounds that you would hear within each distinctive robot’s heads up display, such as:
150+ interface beeps • 80+ success beeps • 70+ fail beeps • 50+ data readouts • 45+ countdowns • 15+ alarms • 100+ power ups • 95+ power downs
Requirements:
Third-party software & hardware are not included in this purchase and should be purchased separately: KONTAKT (version 3.5.0.025 or higher) • TouchOSC • Apple iPad
Signal Return is a performable Kontakt instrument and soundset designed to create a wide variety of interesting and textured sounds.
All of the source material comes from recordings of various devices feeding back into themselves either electrically or acoustically. No software based speaker emulators or distortions were used in the creation of these sounds. Comes with 250 .wav files – more than 2 hours of recordings + 22 Kontakt instruments (these require the full version of NI Kontakt 5.0 or higher).
The Squelch sound library is a collection of 6 radios, walkie talkies, and CBs recorded both through the speakers and in some cases through the line outs. Each device served up a broad palette of static, beeps, clicks, squelches, and random idle chatter.
Comes with 93 recordings with hundreds of individual sounds + one Kontakt instrument (instrument requires the full version of NI Kontakt 4 or higher).
The Kontakt instrument is a unique performable radio device designed for experimentation and discovery of the broad palette of sounds. It also includes a classic spring reverb unit with a custom interface created from a Pioneer SR202W. See the Kontakt interface here.
These authentic radio recordings are useful in sound design/film applications and can be twisted out into musical and sound design effects.
Stringache is a modern horror library of mangled string noises. We've used close microphone techniques to record a huge deal of violin stabs and screeches, pizzicatos, cello staccatos, double bass jetè, crescendos, strident string gestures, bowed noises: all of them have been heavily processed and transformed in unsettling, hair-raising cinematic horror effects.
Stringache is for the contemporary composer of horror cinematic music: whenever you need a subtle violin effect to create tension, a rising cluster effect to grab the audience's attention or a screaming, ear piercing string screech stab, Stringache will be your weapon.
Stringache also comes with a large set of original recordings of double bass, cello, viola and violin (270+ .wavs 96 kHz 24 bit). These sounds have been treated with a very transparent process of EQ and de-noising and you can use them as construction elements to create your own sound effects.
Stringache comes with a custom Kontakt UI (14 Instruments) to further manipulate the sounds.
Swell is a performable Kontakt instrument and sound effects library designed to create natural sounding cymbal swells with a variety of different cymbals and performances. Cymbals include gongs, orchestral suspended cymbals, crashes, chinas, sizzle ride, and others.
Swell is divided into 2 parts: natural and designed.
The natural collection has recordings that are unaltered from their original performances and was created to produce clean, musical, natural sounding swells.
The designed collection uses samples based on the natural recordings that have been transformed into entirely new and different sounds using heavy processing and layering. It was created to produce interesting design and transition sounds quickly and easily. Swell includes over 200 fully designed rises.
In addition to the carefully recorded sounds we have created a truly useful and flexible Kontakt instrument. This instrument ties the mod wheel to an entire matrix of effect parameters that you can manipulate in real time for instant complexity.
TEXTROBOT is a NI Kontakt instrument designed to help you in the sound design of UI sounds and to produce retriggered samples for VFX text animations.
All 165 sounds are easily accessible using a MIDI master keyboard from the first octave. You can choose a category to load a set of samples and play it manually, or in the retriggered way (if active) by holding down the note. The full version of NI Kontakt is required to use this library.
• Click (10 samples): very tight, clicky sounds for UI interface usage or small text VFX
• Bleeps (16 samples): it contains bleeping sounds, tones, and alerts for telemetrics and sci-fisound design
• Big Size (16 samples): a collection of low frequency sounds for big title animation
• Percussive (22 samples): organic and processed percussive sounds like shakers, maracas, and woods for multimedia apps or menu sound design
• Fun (30 samples): a collection of funny sounds for cartoonish motion graphics
• Digital (20 samples): glitches and lo-fi sounds for experimental videos
• Keys (28 samples): keyboards, typewriters, and mouse sounds
• Mechanical (23 samples): switches, clangs, squeaks, and metal impact sounds for mechanic motion graphics

The Keyless Piano Body is a Kontakt Patch library that features an abandoned upright piano without keyboard.
The library encompasses the results of three extensive recording sessions and features the wonderful and reverberant sound of these piano remains.
For session 1 and 2 the body was brought to a studio and literally laid back so that various things like plastic balls, felt balls, glasses and much more could be thrown in to excite the strings. At the end of both sessions tons of samples were ready to edit. They now form 13 Kontakt instruments that encompass several precisely tuned pianos plus many prepared piano sets.
Session 3 was kind of a field recording gig as the piano remains were meanwhile moved to a rural garden area. The nightly recordings were done 6-channel so that several sample sets from 2 acoustic mics and 4 contact pick ups could be created. Again, the Kontakt instruments from this session feature the sounds of a rotten piano that is lovely and impressive at the same time. In a second pass the piano strings were treated with a stell jazz brush to bring up 3 multi-channel sets with prepared piano-like sounds.
Please see the Patch List here or below to learn more about the individual instruments. Also note that The Keyless Piano Body requires Kontakt 4 or higher.
Torsion is a new dark hi-tech sound library packed with cinematic sound effects, tempo locked synths, stutter-stingers, tonal feedback, signature braams, hits, downers, low end whooshes, vocals, rise-crescendo, reverse and comes with 300+ wav samples and 86 kontakt instruments powered by The Forge engine by Audiority.
The front panel of torsion features lp-hp resonating filters, adsr stages for both filters and amplitude, dual reverb which is a combination of classic reverb and convolution. This is great to add textures and personalise your sound.
Effect section include a very aggressive distortion unit, saturation and punch stages, delay and eq.
The distortion unit is gritty and very aggressive, combining a british amplifier with a voice-level bitcrusher.
The saturation unit features the high quality algorithm of kontakt.
The punch effect is a transient shaper, a kind of compressor used to control the attack and the sustain portion of a sound and which world great for drums, percussions, impacts, guitars, pianos and other sounds with a fast attack.
On top of that you can find the advanced rhythmic programmer that can work as an arpeggiator, a polyphonic sequencer or a gater.
Another key features in Torsion is the stack mode-voicing control which increase the number of voices per note played at the same time. On a single key you can play a different number of sounds to create chords of samples for more rich and layered ensembles.
A analog emulated 4-bands parametric equalizer. Low and high are shelf type, while low mid and high mid are bell type.
The resonant delay unit combines a delay based tunable resonator and a tempo synced stereo delay.
Torsion is 100% royalty free – single user license.

Transmission apparatus is a construction kit designed to create a broad range of communication sounds, from real to “alien” broadcasting signals.
The library contains more than 2 GB of data, delivered in 373 files of unique sound material. It’s catalogued in five elements: AM (amplitude modulation), FM (frequency modulation), SSB (single side band – aka ham radio), KYMA (synthesised noises) and VOCAL (unintelligible speeches).
The first three bands were recorded from the output of different radio receivers at 96 kHz via a Crane Song HEDD (Harmonically Enhanced Digital Device) to add warmth and tube/analog sonic color to the recordings. All the samples have been carefully selected from these recording sessions, with the addition of just a little dsp processing to widen the stereo field.
The Kyma folder also contains unique audio files entirely synthesised in the SSC Kyma+Paca(rana) environment. A group of SFX called Vocal is the result of “destroyed” dialogues and vocal sources via spectral processing.
Transmission Apparatus is available in two versions:
96 kHz .WAV version• Audio Format: Broadcast Wave Files (.wav)

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
