Metal sound effects

  • Have you ever dreamt of attacking a piano with a metal mallet? Dream no more! This library is available in two versions (and a bundle):

    Piano, Mallet Strikes:
Recorded at 96kHz/24-bit stereo, this collection of sounds brings you 463 sampler-based metal mallet strikes creating five full samplers that you can map to your own samplers or use the Groove Agent files I have provided. As opposed to playing the piano normally, these sounds were created by striking the string with a metal mallet, creating a harsher attack. The five different samplers offer you a wide variety of durations:
    • Damped instantly (84 sounds; five octaves)
    • Damped after 1 second (97 sounds; seven octaves)
    • Damped after 2 seconds (97 sounds; seven octaves)
    • Damped after 5 seconds (88 sounds; six octaves)
    • Sustained fully (97 sounds; seven octaves)
    Piano, Mallet FX:
This collection of sounds brings you 509 FX sounds of various scrapes, hits and glissandos across the piano strings with a metal mallet, offering significant number of variations. Every sound was recorded at 96kHz/24-bit stereo.
So go ahead and fulfill your dream!
    Piano, Mallet Strikes and FX:
This collection of sounds is a discounted bundle of two libraries – “Piano, Mallet FX” and “Piano, Mallet Strikes” – to give you 509 FX sounds of various scrapes, hits and glissandos across the strings, as well as 463 sampler-based mallet strikes creating five full samplers that you can map to your own samplers or use the Groove Agent files I have provided. Every sound was recorded at 96kHz/24-bit stereo.
  • Fabric Props Box 2 Play Track 2000+ sounds included $40

Props Box 2 sound library is a collection of different sounds emitted by everyday objects used in weird ways. It can be a great and handy tool in designing more complex sound effects for games, or just a go to pack to quickly fill the gaps in movies and other linear media.

The library gives you 193 files, featuring more than 2000 sound effects, as each recording contains different variations of the same activity. The total length of the files is 234 minutes.

    Props include:

Cardboard • electric hair ball remover • foam pipes • glass box • glass jar • glass plates • leather box • metal bowl • metal brush • metal cage • metal chain • metal container • cutlery • garlic presser • keys • knife sharpener • metal bars • nuts • paper book • paper thick and thin • pepper mill • plastic bag • chips • bottles • plastic boxes • calculator • jars • toys • silica gel • sponge • stone mortar • tapes • wooden box • wooden brush • toothpicks • nutcrackers

As for the post processing, everything was edited and mastered. Editing came down to removing unwanted sounds between takes, and mastering to removing harsh sounding frequencies, compressing and setting everything on level that is comfortable to work with, so you don’t have to constantly adjust the levels while looking for specific sound.

Inside you’ll find recordings with materials like cardboard, foam, glass, leather, metal, paper, plastic, wood and different objects.

  • I went there, so you don't have to. The nerv wrecking sounds of a fork scraped across a plate, the annoying scratches of fingernails on a coated pot are as well part of this library as many similar and sometimes less unpleasant sounds.

The major part of this library has been recorded in 192kHz with Earthworks QTC 50 microphones. Frequencies up to over 90 kHz are captured with plenty of the noises and allow for decent pitch and bend fun. Plastic, wood, metal, glass, porcelaine, syntetic leather and rubber has been used to perform squeaks, screeches, squeals, creaks, groans and scratches. Each material has been dragged and rubbed against each other in different speed and with varying pressure to make sure to get multiple variations of each sound.

This versatile library is a rich resource and a starting point for creature sound design, iron weapon action, robotic and machine movements and many more. Also great for music production – check the demo. Anything that should make the audience goose bumps or sound old an tortured will profit from “QUEETSH”.

Caution: some sounds might be considered unpleasent / annoying.

Scratches library is a comprehensive library of 700 recordings of scrapes, cuts, scuffs, peelings and rubs. This high-quality collection of versatile sounds will make skin crawl and hairs stand on end.

The idea behind this project was to gather a wide assortment of objects like saws, scissors and chalks, and to record their acoustic interaction with surfaces such as wood, glass, metal, concrete and gravel. We even came to vandalize a few musical instruments (snare drums, oriental percussions, cymbals and more) with hammers and knives in order to capture weird noises and unique musical qualities.

  • Sigil is a unique library of dark, gritty, raw, and eerie textures and tones made from one-of-a-kind handmade electro-acoustic instruments and found objects created by sound designer and musician Nathan Moody.

Sigil provides an edgy set of layers that are rich with organic complexity: Skittery bows on handmade string instruments; “prepared” string tones and textures, bowed and rubbed springs under tension; salvaged rusty metal tubes; perforated steel gongs; aluminum water bottle bells; and deep, resonant handmade percussion instruments. Textures include chugs, shrieks, groans, drones, bounces, peals, and rattles. The sounds range from blissfully musical to horrifyingly atonal, and are equally at home lending an uneasy tone to either avant garde musical works or multi-layered sound effects, especially in thriller or horror genres.

The organic nature of the Sigil library means that its sounds hold up well to extreme processing like pitch shifting and granular resynthesis. The handmade nature of the instruments used means that there’s no other library quite like it.

The recordings were made with a variety of pickups, contact microphones, and traditional microphones, through various high-end “character” mic preamps selected uniquely per microphone and per instrument. Full details are in the library’s documentation.

This collection was recorded at 24 bits, 96 kHz and includes over three hours of recordings with more than 600 individual sounds, all fully tagged with metadata. Multiple articulations and voicing are ganged into single files for convenience and organization.

  • Spring Box is 13 minutes/453mb of shrieking, droning, scraping metallic sounds – made by bowing a steel spring bolted to an empty steel enclosure. 81 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz using Primo EM172 and JrF contact microphones.

Here's a collection of eerie sounds for your next horror/sci-fi/ambient project. Everything from low rumbling and rattling, to high pitched, harmonics-laden screams; long, drawn-out sounds and short dings and twangs. Of course they sound really good when pitched down, too (the last 3 sounds in the preview are shifted down to quarter speed)!

The Spring Box is an old 19 inch rack enclosure, which I gutted and fitted with two springs from a genuine Luxo lamp (so you know it's good). I have been having fun bowing and scraping this with a cello bow, as well as striking it with various other objects. Some sounds are recorded acoustically, while others were done with contact mics.

    You get:

    • Steel spring sounds.
    • Long and atmospheric, as well as short and succinct.
    • Great pitch-shifting material.

  • This library features recordings created using a “Knas Ekdahl Moisturizer”, a boutique spring reverb effects unit where three reverb springs are exposed, allowing them to be hit, played, and manipulated in real time.

The unit also includes a multi-mode analog filter, and when combined with the playability of the springs, opens up many sound creation options.

The result is a unique sound effect library of massive metallic hits, clangs, scrapes, plucks, bounces, and rattles. The springs were played like a percussion instrument, using a collection of found objects, such as hammers, mallets, allen wrenches, forks, and plastic / metal rods. The springs were also stretched to alter the pitch, and objects were placed on the springs, much like a prepared piano, to alter the sound.

No other effects were applied other than the built-in multimode filter (high pass, low pass, band pass, and resonance) on certain sounds. These include sub-sonic hits, sweeping filtered metallic scrapes, and drones that round out the collection.

  • Drones & Moods Tubular Play Track 365 sounds included, 62 mins total $38

This library is the result of tinkering with shotgun mics recording inside of different tube structures. When our initial tests produced a wide range of sonic colors, we went all in.

The tubes used include organic and man-made materials, some rigid, some flexible, some dense, some light, all with varying lengths, diameters, and thicknesses. They consist of bamboo, PVC, 2 variations of vinyl, thin plastic, copper, tin, rubber, dense foam, and a steel-coiled membrane. Each material has a different effect on the sounds passing through them. We generated turbulent drones, thick strikes, resonant scrapes, noisy bells, delicate debris, and more. The overarching characteristics are soft, insulated, and misty. Due to the behavior of the waves in the open tubes and the pickup pattern of the shotgun mics, there is a natural frequency modulation that gives the sound a slightly narrowed, hollow timbre. They work very well in simulated settings, enclosed spaces, and when there is a need to exaggerate the magnitude of tiny worlds. But they are equally as useful as raw design fodder, especially when a unique texture is needed.

This is our first library created solely for the sake of experimentation, though based on the results, it may not be the last!
