In Hydroelectric Power, witness the power of water in this collection of recordings captured at historic hydropower plants and massive concrete dams in the United States.
In the American West, water scarcity and allocation are hot topic issues. Gain access inside a working powerhouse along the Boise River as one of three generators, producing over 1,000–kilowatts of power, crank up from a cold start in advance of the irrigation season. Get hit in the face with spray from Shoshone Falls, a waterfall taller than Niagara Falls, during a high water event. Stand 100 yards downstream from the massive Bonneville Lock and Dam along the Columbia River in Oregon as 3,487 Kgal/sec rush past, generating 624 megawatts of power. Listen to the thunderous sound of Gorge Dam along the Cuyahoga River. Yes, the river that caught fire. This decommissioned 60-foot tall, 400-foot-wide dam has sat idle for over 50 years. Plans are in the works to remove it, thereby freeing up the flow of the snaking river from its headwaters to Lake Erie.
Admittedly, waterfalls and dams recorded up close can sometimes sound a lot like white noise. Yet there are distinctions. In Hydroelectric Power, each sound takes on the character of its environment, making it unique to that space and time.
These recordings, captured in pristine 24-bit/96 kHz quality by field recordist Richard Alan Hannon, will complement your documentary, film and game design needs until, unfortunately, the rivers run dry. Seamless loops have been meticulously crafted from sounds that allow for it. Providing more opportunities to utilize these sounds in your projects.

Electro Magnetic 01 is part of the Sound Themes Series by Systematic Sound. This is a special one. I basically recorded sounds, that can’t be heard by humans. Beneath the world of human hearing there are other hidden sonic words. Let’s explore the world of electro-magnetic fields, where radio frequencies are buzzing and swirling through the air. You will hear electrical hums droning, aggressive digital buzzing, erratic RF-hits, clicks, glitches & interferences. The sounds of data transmissions and the sounds of electro-magnetic engines oscillating and fluctuating in a strange way. These sounds have been captured with a device for electromagnetic listening. They are perfectly suited to kick start your creativity and enhance your sonic palette. These abstract sounds build make great production elements for your creative Sound Design work.
The idea behind the SOUND THEMES SERIES is to record and portrait sound related to a certain theme, subject or object of interest. The goals is to create exciting and unique sounds and make them available to other creatives to help them make they’re production extraordinary, emotional and cinematic. I’m always on the hunt for unique, evocative and intriguing sound to add to this Library.
Feedback Loops brings you a versatile pack full of different loops. In this pack you will find a plethora of analogue and digital sounds. By routing the output to the input of an analogue synth, our Audio Craftsmen were able to design a huge range of volatile feedback loops that continuously evolve over time. Digital synths were also used to create more complex sounds. They can be used for scenes involving live equipment and electricity. Their unique character allows for more complex sound design.
Our Audio Craftsmen have developed 3 different categories to be used individually, or as a basis for further sonic manipulation.
Sounds have been separated into the following categories:
Analogue: These feedback loops were created using an analogue synth to create more natural sounds.
Digital: These loops sound more harsh in comparison to the analogue sounds, and therefore are more complex
Simple: These loops don’t have any recorded manipulation so they can be used a low hums.
All sounds were recorded in 24Bit 96kHz, and have been tagged with extensive UCS metadata for ease of use.
Rumbles and rattles from lighthouse motor recorded at every floor, from bottom to top of the tower.
Recorded in Atlantic Maritimes PEI province in Canada. The lighthouse has an electric motorized engine that makes the light rotate at 360 degree, so that the boat can be guided.
Check out our collection of synthesised electrical/mechanical machinery, from buzzing and clicking, to ringing and glitches. This sound library will add a futuristic touch to any sci-fi project, whether it be spaceships, robots, weapons or more.

Lawn Mower Ambience was recorded in an opportunist moment whilst recording another sample pack
We centred the Zoom H4N facing an average UK back garden on a spring ish day and recorded someone naturally mowing their lawn with an electric mower.
This sample pack has different perspectives from close to distant mowing, with different panning elements which were recorded naturally from up to down to left to right and a lawn Mower stopping.
This sample pack will be great for a lawn mower in the background of your project or wanting a natural sound palette of someone mowing a lawn. Lawn Mower Ambience has been edited to allow a drop in ready and Royalty Free sample pack. In the “EMF RECORDINGS” library you’ll find… EMF Recordings! Shocking right? This collection is here to help you find that one specific humming sound you have in mind.
These are the sounds you usually want to remove when creating a sound library, but what if that is exactly what somebody is looking for? 100 sounds – 40 source noises and errors and 60 designed unpleasant noises. The library is also available in UCS.
Evocative Sound and Visuals is pleased to announce the release of Electromagnetic Fields. This library contains 163 meticulously crafted and mastered sounds from 68 devices and structures captured in high-quality stereo with a Sony PCM D100 recorder and two small induction coil microphones. Included are hums, drones, beeps, bleeps, buzzes, glitches, pulses, static and more strange sounds I cannot describe.
With few exceptions, we mere mortals can’t hear the electromagnetic fields (EMF) surrounding us. If we could, we’d go crazy, especially in our ever-expanding electronic environment. We can tune our ears into this other sonic world using induction coil microphones. I never knew quite what to expect when placing mics on an object. Having two microphones with fairly long cables allowed me to find the most sonically interesting parts of an object to focus on. Two mics spaced apart also allow for a nice stereo spread.
Have fun experimenting with and inserting these hi-tech sounds (some captured in 96kHz/24-bit and others in 192kHz/24-bit) into your next science fiction and otherworldly creations. Please don’t take the device’s sound literally. That SLR’s motor drive may just be your next rapid-fire laser cannon.
We wanted to redesign some of our Coil Pickup recordings so we fired them into our in house Kontakt instrument and started to redesign them.

Arc will give you enough audio to give your project the authentic sound of an Arc, Tesla and Plasma type sounds, boosting your project to the next level. Arc has been edited to allow a drop in ready and Royalty Free sample pack. These Samples can be used in a variety of projects from Sound Designing/Compositions for TV, Film, Documentaries and Video Games. UCS Compliant and Metadata is attached to the samples
With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
