This Library brings you the construction kit of the “Abstract Ambiences” Sound Effects Library to mix and match its stems as you wish, giving you maximum flexibility in post production.
Think of movies like “Alien”, “Event Horizon” “or games like “Dead Space”, “Doom” or “Bioshock”. But you will also get the right feel and idea for other disturbing-cyberpunk and unsettling industrial dark spaces.
A symbiosis of organic original field-recordings like Room Tones, Construction Sites, Traffic, Fun-Fair, Motors, … and synthetic elements like spectral- and granular synthesis.
Here a library of one of the most active volcano in Europe: The Stromboli.
The actual sound library contains 73 sound recordings for a size of 2.6 GB.
Eruptions were recording mainly from three distances:
• at 200m of altitude and 1,3km distance from cratere
• at 400m of altitude and 1km distance from cratere
• at 850m of altitude and 500m distance from cratere
I stayed here one month to manage to have the most diversified eruptions that offer Iddu the volcano. A friend who accompanied me did beautiful shoots with cameras and drone. You can have a look to the video. This project brought us to another one, that’s coming up in the next months, a type of documentary about the whole island and his inhabitants.
So in the future I will add more sounds of Stromboli, the city, the people, the sea, the animals, the ambient etc… that you could listen and download for free on my website.
I wanted this sound library focused on the eruptions, but I put also a few recording of the waves and water because they sound particularly strong and they suggest the volcano’s sound: All the island is little made of “fresh” lava’s rock, that make every impact very resonant in the bass frequencies.
This library contains also a few ambient of the island, his city and his surrounding nature. And some roomtone corresponding to the place where I recorded the eruptions.
All recording made with the Nagra VI. Neumann mics, audio technica MS and Micromix amp for some specifics recording.
Kyma Ambiences vol.2 follows the traces of the original collection dated back 2013, but this time it’s bigger and immersive. It contains 100 abstract and evolving ambiences created with our beloved Kyma sound design workstation. Due to the increasing demand of spatialized content for game and VR/AR project, this inspiring collection has been entirely designed as a spherical representation of sound natively in 3rd Order Ambisonics by generating all the Sounds in Kyma and mastering them in Pro Tools through a custom analog setup (Looptrotter Sa2Rate+Elysia xfilter 500+TK Audio BC501).
Ambisonics is a multi-channel technology that lets you spherically capture the sound arriving from all directions, at a single point in space. I used state of the art tools to forge these modern and cinematic soundscapes by blending many encoders to inject different colours into the design process. Each virtual 3D sound environment has been carefully constructed by layering and placing Kyma Sounds at different locations in a virtual three dimensional field using the Audio Ease 360 pan suite. I captured real spatial sound with the AMBEO VR Mic to be encoded-transformed-decoded using Kyma Ambisonic Tookit (1st Order) and then up-mixed to 3rd Order with Harpex-X and PerfectSurround Penteo 16 Pro to extract the maximum amount of spatial information.

Wilderness Americas : Central American Jungle is a collection of sounds captured in the different Tropical Forests of central America across many countries. For this first chapter, we will focus on : North Colombia and Costa Rica.
This library focus on the wildlife and wilderness sounds of the different type of forest encountered across these countries : rainforest, cloud forest, montane tropical forest, Tropical Dry Broadleaf Forest, primal forest, bamboo forest, etc.
As you can see there is not just one type of jungle or forest, but rather a multitude of very different ecosystems that we have tried to record.
In this places, the ecological variety is quite stunning and preserved. Maybe because there is few people and maybe because of the weather conditions who are very rude for human (and audio equipment : extrem humidity, rain and heat don’t works great with microphones and recorders.)
We have selected audio gear for this purpose : tropicalized microphones : sennheiser MKH 8020 and MKH 8040-30 series in a surround configuration + world known recorder : Sound devices Mixpre10T. We have taken also a humidity proof microphone basket (Cinela)
This weather proof setup permit us to record even under tropical rains. (We have also a special mic cover which reduce the sound of rain drop on the microphone basket)
We have always focus on places, where they protect and respect the wilderness.
-> We went record in this different places : In north Colombia, around Minca inside the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, where you evolve inside a Montane Tropical Forest at 3000 m altitude, but also in a lonely valley near the Cocora valley region. In Costa Rica, we met the primal tropical forest, in the Osa Peninsula and the Corcovado National Park : The ecological variety of this place is quite stunning. National Geographic has called it “the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity”. We also went to the Monteverde region to meet the cloud forest, who is a hight altitude tropical forest, where the cloud meet the tropical forest. We also explored the biological reserve “Lomas Barbudal” which is a “Tropical Dry Broadleaf Forest” and finish our journey near the Arenal volcano.
To sum up:
In Colombia we were around Minca, in the montane tropical forest, we spend more than two weeks, recording birds and animals inside the forest.
In Colombia we were in a parallel lonely valley of the famous Cocora Valley, also in the montane tropical forest.
In Costa Rica we were inside the Corcovado National Park, we spend here one week, exploring this protected area, nights and days inside the primal rainforest.
In Costa Rica we were in the cloud forest inside the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
In Costa Rica We were inside the “Biological Reserve Lomas Barbudal“, inside the dry broadleaf tropical forest, looking for spider and howler monkeys.
In Costa Rica we were freely explore the Arenal region.
We have used “sound trap” technics for long and immersive recording :
we have hide microphones and protect recorder in a waterproof bag and let it for days and night in the middle of the tropical forests (usualy 24 hours non stop recording).
This system allow us to record the sunrise, dawn chorus, and sunset, time where the animals are more active.
Here is some animals we have recorded :
Exotics Birds and more especially : parrots, parakeet, macaw, toucan, woodpecker, Oropendola, cacique, humming-bird, etc.
Insects and more especially : cricket, cicada, bumblebee, etc.
Mammal : spider monkeys, howler monkey, brown monkeys, etc.
Amphibien : frogs, toads
We have record using a surround setup (Sennheiser DMS (Double M/S)) using 3 mic capsules
The DMS signal can be decode in many different format (5.0, stereo (XY/ORTF/AB), mono, binaural). for decode it you can simply use your DAW or for more convenient the Harpex plugin or the free Shoeps DMS plugin.
With the DMS you can adjust the stereo spread/imaging, or even make rotation in the surround pan field.
In some few cases, with have record with a parabola dish + Sennheiser MKH 8020. (animals)
Each sound recording are located with GPS coordinate and a full soundminer metadata.
–The Full sound bank (Stereo + Surround) contains 114 sound takes record in 24/96khZ (Total length : 661 minutes) and decline in 330 files
A collection of premium quality ambient recordings from the islands of Malta and Gozo.

Baltic Quad Surroundings captures the urban sounds of Riga city and its adjacent suburban and rural areas, located in the Baltics, Northern Europe. A Quadraphonic library for your next surround work. Takes are approximately 4 to 5 minutes long or even longer, so that should cover the majority of movie scenes. Please listen to the stereo samples, or download the Quad samples to hear full potential of these recordings here: Quad Recordings Demo
Since this is our first release, we are also adding a free bonus micro library with quad recordings of passing trains that we encountered during the recording sessions. Enjoy!
Recorded with a spaced Quadraphonic omni setup.
The recordings were done in early spring when vegetation has not yet grown leaves, to avoid unnecessary noise pollution. Some recordings are made at night to keep bird activity to a minimum.
This is the first library that results from a steady need for authentic and realistic surround backgrounds.
The most common problem we have with surround sound libraries is that they are too exotic, or have too much activity. So, we took matters into our own hands and started to explore different surround recording techniques. Our recordings can be used as a surround soundscape “beds” or layers. This allows controlled additions of other elements to build up the scene and keep the viewer’s focus on the storyline.
The goal was to record diffused sound field atmospheres and that is where a spaced Quadraphonic Omni setup shines. Human hearing does not rely only on level differences across the frequency spectrum – in fact, our auditory system heavily relies on the difference of sound wave arrival time to each ear. This is especially important with frequencies below 800 hertz.
So spaced microphones result in more believable sound field recordings than point source recording techniques like MS or other compact systems. The phase is also not an issue, it even decreases as microphones get placed even further apart. The only downside to this technique is the big and bulky rig and that it requires individual wind protection for each microphone.
Our future goal is to add a dedicated center channel to the recording rig and to start building up way bigger and more sophisticated libraries. Stay tuned for future releases!
We visited Chicago last summer and once again, we recorded it, capturing 17 beautiful tracks in ambisonic format, 48Khz and 24 bits HD. As always, top quality recordings specially designed for film audio projects. The library was decoded and mixed in Dolby ATMOS at AdHoc Studios.

All files are embedded with extensive UCS compliant metadata.
Waves are one of the most powerful elements that mother nature provides. Especially the rough pacific ocean with all its mighty waves which were rolling on the beaches and shorelines of islands like Taveuni in Fiji, or Tanna in Vanuatu. We recorded these waves in all their different sizes. From huge roaring waves to detailed lapping splashes. To get a nice image of the rolling waves we used the amazing Schoeps ORTF3D recording system powered by the precise preamps of the Sonosax R4+ and AD8+.
The Library include sounds like
WATER, WAVES, SHORELINE, COAST, SURF, BEACH, OCEAN ROAR

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
