This library focuses on isolated recordings of single insects, mainly from Northern Europe. While all insects have been recorded in the wild in Northern Europe, most also appear in all of Europe, Asia, North Africa and some have been introduced to America and Australia too.
For this library I recorded various species of wild bees, wasps, bugs, cicades, grasshoppers, flys, dragonflies, butterflies, ants, sandfleas and underwater bugs. A detailed list of all species is at the end.
You will find flybys, wing buzzes, hums, rattles, little feet, stridulations, jumps and even bites.
Over the course of years I improved my recording of these little animals by approaching them with a set of different micing techniques, always looking for the best spots to record these small creatures, making sure not to disturb them.
Many recordings were performed with microphones and recorders that go up to 192kHz to capture the ultra frequencies emitted by some individuals. Some grasshoppers you won’t even hear unless you pitch them down or play them slower.
While I find their crispy, clear and often bassy sounds lovely, some of the noises of the animals can be decribed as annoying, scary, sharp or intensive.
But besides for the original recorded species, these noises can be used to create swarms or all kind of insects or little creatures, like elves, aliens and fairies.
In addition to the close up recordings, I added a few swarms, real and designed, a couple of ambiences and a few designed insect sounds.
Some of the 60+ species (for details check file list):
Apex Furrowed Bee, Big Fly, Black Tailed Skimmer, Blow Fly, Blue Winged Grasshopper, Bow Winged Grasshopper, Buff Tailed Bumblebee, Butterflies, Purple Emperor, Honey Bee, Mosquito, Wild Bees, Carder Bee, Chelostoma Rapunzuli, Chrysogaster Solstitialis, Cloromia Formosa, Common Field Cricket, Common Green Bottle Fly, Common Wasp, Conocephalus Fuscus, Dragonfly, Drone Fly, Early Bumblebee, Eristalis Pertinax, Eupeodes Luniger, European Orchard Bee, European Wasp, European Wool Carder Bee, False Stable Fly, Field Grasshopper, Flesh Fly, Fly of the Dead, Flying Ant, Gnat, Great Green Bush Cricket, Green Blowfly, Green Rose Chafer, Grey Backed Mining Bee, Gypsy Cuckoo Bee, Hairy Footed Flower Bee, Helophilus Trivittatus, Hornet Hoverfly, House Fly, Italian Tree Cricket, Jigger Flea, Large Bee Fly, March Crane Fly, Meadow Grasshopper, Myathropa Florea, Painted Lady, Pale-saddled Leucozona, Red Tailed Bumblebee, Red Wood Ant, Sand Bee, Sand Wasp, Sawfly Macrophia Montana, Sceliphron Curvatum, Tritomegas Bicolor, Underwater Insects, White Tailed Bumblebee, Wood Cricket,…

ROOM TONES USA – 3D SURROUND AMBIENCES
Our fourth entry of our famous sound effect series 3D SURROUND is now available: After ROOM TONES EUROPE comes ROOM TONES USA.
As you’d expect from a library labeled “room tones”, the sounds come without much action in the foreground but with a very detailed acoustic image of each room, giving you the perfect basic noise layer to break the silence in your post production project. The recorded rooms vary from hallways and warehouses over cafes, offices, basements, apartment rooms, laundry and boiler rooms to industrial rooms and even an underground bunker. ROOM TONES USA covers all different scenarios you could possibly need, delivered fully surround with unprecedented precision, spatial impression and clarity. Undoubtedly, this can be easily used in stereo productions as well. Either chose the angle yourself or use the stereo version (included in 3D SURROUND).
“PWL08: Ambisonic Overview : USA – WEST COAST AIRPORT & FLIGHT” is a collection of sounds recorded between 2 airports of the west coast of the USA: Los Angeles, and Oakland. As a bonus, we put in the library sounds recorded at the Paris Airport (France).
The library includes also sounds recorded during the flights between these 3 airports in four different planes: one Boing 787, one Boing 789 Dreamliner, one Airbus A319, and one Airbus A320.
We were recording in many places inside the airports: Ticket place, gate place, security check, waiting room, near a restaurant, bar, dutyfree shop, etc…
And also inside the planes: before take-off, security announcement, take-off, landing, room tone, ambiance during the flight, passenger walla, Captain and crew PA System
– The soundbank contains 64 sound takes recorded in 24 Bit / 96 kHz for a total duration of 388 minutes of original sound, decline in 192 files

Sound Tailor Effects Library enters the void with its 3rd release:
60 sounds, 5+ hours of rich and deep room tones, with a variety of sizes and environments that will cover most of sound editors needs. From a quiet residential bedroom to an reverberant inactive hospital hall, a ventilated office space, or a noisy basement, we carefully chose the right place at the right time, to get the best from those empty spaces.
We’ve recorded with a combination of 7 low noise microphones, 1 ambisonic microphone and 1 geophone, dispatched on a wide rig, to get the best spatial impression, allowing us to deliver a true 7.1.2 format, plus ambisonic, 5.1 and 2.1 versions. The sub channel, provided by the geophone and its low frequency response, has been a shocking surprise for us, and is a real colorful and creative addition.
You can choose between several spatial format combinations, to suit your needs. All versions includes a stereo mixdown, and all files are loopable.
Sound Tailor’s Room Tones is UCS compliant, and delivered in high resolution 96kHz/24 Bits.

Urban Rain is a sound library that delivers 50 city rain sounds recorded in 96 kHz/24 bit, with Soundminer and BWAV embedded metadata. The library contains various types of rain at different intensities, from very light to downpour. Several thunder claps and rumbles are present as well. Locations are as follows: a terrace, a balcony, a backyard, several streets, a rooftop, a garage, inside a car, a loft (from inside), Chelsea FC Stadium and two patios (interior). All files have been recorded at night so human activity is minimum, although you will hear a tiny bit of traffic rumble in the background.

Aimed at complementing Ambisonics – Roomtones, this library compiles additional content for intimate VR experiences. This volume focuses on busier soundscapes, including the heavy hum from a fridge in a kitchen facing a street with sporadic vehicles and conversations, quiet living room takes with distant voices and a dog snoring, persistent machine sound from a pump, porch recordings on a rainy night and a busy morning with varied traffic passing-by.
These audio files are perfect for both quiet and languid roomtone soundscapes, conveying multiple moods for any desired VR experience.
This sound library is available in both Ambisonics FuMa (B Format) and Stereo (Binaural) formats.
With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
