Home Environments & Ambiences Roomtones Page 4
Roomtone recordings
This is a selection of more than 30 different elevators, displaying a broad variety in sound. The whole library was recorded in 192 kHz (with Earthworks QTC50) as elevators often have high pitched metal sounds, squeaks and electrical hum up there, which makes great material for extreme pitch shifting. In addition to the omnis, which get you a very accurate impression of the space, a harsher, more direct pair of microphones were used in m/s on a lot of recordings. You could even build a surround version from these mics together.
The library focuses on the most important sounds for games and movies, elevators going up & down as well as doors sliding open and closing. Besides, I recorded atmos, buttons and footsteps wherever possible. I also added some studio foley takes to add a selection of rattles, squeaks, metal impacts, doors etc. to create the exact elevator sound that suits your needs.
The elevators range from a 1929 wooden paternoster, metallic freight elevators/goods lifts to a 90s futuristic Kone disc drive and 2015s all-glass cabins. Carrying a maximum of 2 people to 33 people. Recorded in universities, offices, hotels, warehouses, industry, town halls, private households, malls and many more.
The meta-data allows you to sort by year, kg, people, brand, action and of course character.
You like to hear it rattle, squeak, groan, grind, slide, clatter and hiss (yeah, lots of fan noise)? This is one for you.

'Fans Light Machines' is a collection of different mechanical fan and electrical sounds recorded over the last 10 years. To flesh out your industrial buildings with distinct and detailed sounds of lighting and appliances, this is the one you want.

Sound Tailor Effects Library enters the void with its 3rd release:
60 sounds, 5+ hours of rich and deep room tones, with a variety of sizes and environments that will cover most of sound editors needs. From a quiet residential bedroom to an reverberant inactive hospital hall, a ventilated office space, or a noisy basement, we carefully chose the right place at the right time, to get the best from those empty spaces.
We’ve recorded with a combination of 7 low noise microphones, 1 ambisonic microphone and 1 geophone, dispatched on a wide rig, to get the best spatial impression, allowing us to deliver a true 7.1.2 format, plus ambisonic, 5.1 and 2.1 versions. The sub channel, provided by the geophone and its low frequency response, has been a shocking surprise for us, and is a real colorful and creative addition.
You can choose between several spatial format combinations, to suit your needs. All versions includes a stereo mixdown, and all files are loopable.
Sound Tailor’s Room Tones is UCS compliant, and delivered in high resolution 96kHz/24 Bits.
Aimed at complementing Ambisonics – Roomtones, this library compiles additional content for intimate VR experiences. This volume focuses on busier soundscapes, including the heavy hum from a fridge in a kitchen facing a street with sporadic vehicles and conversations, quiet living room takes with distant voices and a dog snoring, persistent machine sound from a pump, porch recordings on a rainy night and a busy morning with varied traffic passing-by.
These audio files are perfect for both quiet and languid roomtone soundscapes, conveying multiple moods for any desired VR experience.
This sound library is available in both Ambisonics FuMa (B Format) and Stereo (Binaural) formats.

Hospital Ambiance is 59 minutes/1.80 Gb of ambiance recordings from an old hospital. 24 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz A-B stereo. All sounds are UCS-compatible.
Hospital Ambiance was recorded in the rooms and corridors of the old (now defunct) Aarhus County Hospital in Aarhus, Denmark. A prominent feature is the lack of acoustical treatment in corridors and hallways, giving a rather hard and reverberant sound, which is typical of Danish public building styles of the 1930’s and 40’s.
Elevators and automatic doors are heavy and noisy; humming and clanking as patients and staff pass through them. Electric vehicles used to move patients and supplies around inside the complex are old and not exactly noiseless either. Finally, while I did not have access to operating rooms or the like, I did get into a couple of basement corridors, where there were less people and more Hvac noise (yay!).
In some of the recordings, faint, muffled or smeared voices can be heard. While I have removed passages with distinctly Danish words (which might also be connected with specific, recognizable persons), there is still a certain tone and pitch to the Danish language, which may come through on occasion.
All in all, this is the sound of a place that is no more, as this old hospital is being turned into expensive apartments or something to that effect.
The sounds of Rio De Janeiro’s metro, buses, skylines, cafe’s and street sounds…and more.
Shipscape is a sonic exploration of a World War II Victory Ship, an ammunition freighter that later saw use as a commercial freighter and was ultimately restored to serve as a floating museum and event space. It’s perfect for building space station, starship, industrial, naval, submarine, and factory environments.
The SS Red Oak Victory, built in 1944 in, and now returned to, Richmond, California, is a vast steel space with great room tones and objects. Its blast-proof bulkheads and double hull transmit and reflect sound in wild ways. No one has ever recorded in this location until now.
While there are some prop and object recordings, this library’s core focus is long ambience recordings (5 – 13 minutes in length). This UCS-compliant library was recorded with a combination of a Sennheiser and Schoeps microphones, and contains both stereo and quad recordings.
Nearly an hour and a half of recordings cover its four-story engine room, long and narrow shaft alley, massive cargo holds, and bridge. Some recordings are subtle room tones, while others feature distant, ominous booms and clanks transmitted through its cargo bays, hull, and bulkheads.
Explore this fascinating environment with Shipscape, a library released in celebration of the SS Red Oak Victory’s 80th birthday.

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
