Environment recordings, ambiences and soundscapes – from all over the world, and beyond
The sounds of Hong Kong, recorded in 2007. It includes the sounds of a ferry from Lantau Island to Hong Kong, the legendary Star Ferry, trams, street scenes including the iconic pedestrian crossing beeps and MTR (Metro) trains, interior and exterior.
Some tracks could be used for any modern or futuristic city, where you need to add an exotic or futuristic dimension, that Blade Runner-esque feel if you will, not just for Asia!
In total, 30 recordings are included for more than 40 minutes of authentic Hong Kong sounds.
This is it, the largest reindeer (AKA caribou in North America) sound library in the world! Recorded in Lapland, Finland, in winter 2020, we have here over 53 minutes of reindeer in three different, mostly quiet locations.
The first location is a snowy trail in the woods. I was snowshoeing and the reindeer were walking in a distance. Clicking hooves are the deal in these recordings!
The second location is a place in the middle of the woods where the reindeer are sleeping, eating and doing reindeer stuff. No people in sight, no barriers. Just me and THOUSANDS OF REINDEER, and they took me in as their leader, so I got every imaginable and as well unimaginable sound as they were not afraid.
The third location is a reindeer enclosure. Here I got the most isolated sounds. This location also includes a feeding shed, where I recorded reindeer eating and digging!
Sony PCM-D100 in XY & Wide stereo 120°

This library was recorded in different locations. The main one is the woods to record the detail of the mountain bicycles when riding. Other locations were on asphalt roads, to obtain the delicious sound of the wheels and chain spinning and drifting.
The library was recorded in mono and stereo depending on the perspective of the rider.

A comprehensive sound library from the enchanting world of the Middle Ages featuring meticulously recorded elements that come together harmoniously to create a realm of realism that transports your audience back in time, including isolated elements, acoustic impulse responses, noiseprints, and ambience loops.
Personal frustration with the white noise nature of ‘wind through tree’ recordings led sound designer Erin McKimm and I on the pursuit of recording clean, isolated and detailed leaf rustle recordings.
This library features a range of leaf types, movement and performance intensities. Having been recorded a neutral, studio environment these recordings are pristine and feature no background noise or birds.
All sounds were recorded using a variety of microphones, each providing a different perspective and quality of sound.

The Old Cottages library was recorded in outdoor museums of old cottage houses and in a remote mountain cottage during quiet winter.
At first, both libraries (Castles and Old Cottages) were planned to create one big old stuff library. But I soon realised that the topic is too wide for one thematic library and sounds recorded in cottages have different character.
It’s dominated by old creaky wood. And the same as in Castles library, I treated specific ambience of wooden cottages as a part of the sound.
So again, lots of old wooden doors, with metal bolts. Starting from small to large heavy barn doors, both INT and EXT. Some Background Activities on different kinds of wooden floors, recorded from different POVs, like one floor below, or next door. Some interesting props movements.
We also performed some of the objects (like doors), creating rhythmic sounds which could work well for any antique rotating, whirling machines.
We also recorded old machines with gears, which could be very useful for sound design. Using some pitch shifting changes them into another palette of antique sounds.
Recording locations include:
Old Cottages • Old Cottages, upstairs/next-door activity • Staircase / stairwell • Manor • Barn • Mill
Types of sounds included:
Doors: 258 files • Window: 10 files • BG Activities: 37 files • Furniture: 10 files • Mechanism: 73 files

This library contains more than 200 natural ambience clips with embedded metadata. They´re mixed and cut into: loops, transitions and variations to be ready to use inside your project.
The metadata precisely points out any bird species, the specific environment and acoustic properties, the current day-cycle, weather conditions and any foreground or background events that are audible in the clip. To enhance the ease of use, I decided to structure the library as a modular toolbox for ambience sound design.
It has been recorded in some of the oldest, quietest and most pristine forests all over Germany and offers a large collection of active and quiet nature ambiences featuring a variety of different natural environments and wildlife.
You want to get big? You want to get strong? Want muscles? This library brings the (sounds of the) gym – straight to your DAW!
The Gym is a sound effects library containing recordings of typical weight room sounds (deadlift barbell, benchpress, dumbells and more), and of course the foley that you bring in the weight room (belt, gloves and similar)
You can also use the sounds for totally other things, like the sounds that have been made in the included pre-designed folders – so let your imagination guide you, and don't forget: No pain, no gain!
In Residential Ambiences you will get the sounds of 15 different recordings of residential atmospheres with a duration of 10 minutes each so there’s no need to loop.
Recordings have been done during five different periods of a day. Each one includes three versions:
Recordings feature sounds such as dozens of birds singing in the early morning, dove calls in the morning as the same time traffic gets noisier, human activities in the background in the afternoon distant traffic and voices in the evening, and sirens wailing in distance at night.
Some of the birds included are: doves, sparrows, crows, a cock, woodpeckers, blackcaps, magpies, and pigeons.
Since some of the files are extremely quiet (mainly in the evening and at night), descriptive markers have been included to highlight interesting events in an otherwise featureless waveform. These markers can be read in programs such as Izotope RX, Reaper, and Soundminer. The markers are also included as .txt files in separate folder.
All files have been recorded in 96 kHz/24 bit with Soundminer and BWAV embedded metadata.
UCS Compatible Metadata embedded. Fields included CatID, Category, Subcategory, FX Name, Filename, Description, BWDescription, Library, RecType, RecMedium, Microphone, Designer, Manufacturer, Keywords.
With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
