  • Nature & Countryside Ambiences Forest Reverb – Outdoor Impulse Responses Play Track 134 sounds included, 6:41 mins total $25

Get a collection of 134 impulse responses – recorded in the forest.

What if, instead of going to the forest to record the sound, we can find a way to bring the characteristics of the forest to us? Say, for example, we have recorded a sound in the studio like the sound of chopping wood or foley footsteps, but we want them to sound like they are in the forest?

There is a way to emulate this. To make our source sound like it is, in fact, in a forest. The answer is to use the impulse response of the forest and one of the convolution reverb plugins for your DAW.

An impulse response of the forest (or “forest IR”), is the sum of reflections from trees, foliage and the ground by very short signal at high volume. For this sound library, I recorded different impulses in a stereo at different locations of the forest with perfect conditions. Also, the library includes alternate versions of these impulses for use in the processing of the sounds that are far away from the listener.

Note: Requires a convolution reverb plugin
    – here are some free options:

For using these impulse responses, you need a convolution reverb plugin (not included). The library can be used with the built-in convolution plugins in many DAWs like ProTools, FL Studio amd Sony Vegas, and there are other commercial options on the market, but costs can be high. For starters, you can use a free convolution reverb from the following

    LiquidSonics’ Reverberate LE (Win)
    SIR by Christian Knufinke (Win)

A wide choice of IR’s will allow you to choose the most appropriate nuanced impulse response for your material. As you gain more experience with this forest IR, you will find that you can quickly adjust the ratio and volume level for wet and dry channels and effectively use other options of convolution reverb. This powerful forest reverb emulation will be incredibly effective for your sounds.

  • Environments & Ambiences Quiet Spaces Play Track 47+ sounds included, 139 mins total From: $25

In films and documentaries there are often images of people in spaces speaking to other people, who are listening attentively.

The recordings of the person doing the talking are pristine from the set. The recordings of the rest of the room don’t exist. Room tones of empty spaces don’t possess movement and life that your soundtracks require for these situations.

Quiet Spaces is a collection of recordings of people gathered in rooms of various sizes and not talking

Libraries are a natural place to capture these environments, and so a high quality stealth kit made from a pair of Sanken CUB 01s discreetly placed from a backpack onto empty tables in various libraries. We also got access to a university campus right at the end of finals week where we recorded out in the open with a pair of MKH50s in ORTF. We captured an entire class taking a test, as well as various other lightly and sparsely populated spaces in and around campus.

    Locations captured include:
    • 5 different public libraries
    • multiple perspectives per library
    • 6 locations on the UNT campus
    • 1 class quietly taking a written test

The end result is a beautiful set of recordings of quiet spaces that are still filled with texture and movement.

SILENTSCAPES is a collection of 36 high quality recorded and fully mastered romtoones, ambiences and background sounds.

The sound library contains both indoor and outdoor sounds and the sound editing was done to obtain constant and quiet ambiences.

  • Environments & Ambiences Rural Australia Play Track 62+ sounds included, 46 mins total $14

Rural Australia is a library that gets you the best material from recording sessions in regional New South Wales. It features a mix of nature ambiences, animal recordings and a bit of Foley to boot. The sound of insects at night, birds singing, spurs jangling, cows braying, male horses in heat and more – it’s all here in one package.

  • Weather Sound Effects Wind In Trees Play Track 32 sounds included, 93 mins total $28

Here are ambient and specific recordings of rustling leaves, fluttering twigs and creaking trunks. Pine and Fir trees, Beechwood hedgerows and leafless Oak trees, along tall grass and reeds. All in all, a collection representative of the cultured landscape in Denmark, as well as much of northern Europe. I was lucky enough to record a storm during the last days of 2016, and those sounds are of course included here. No human voices or man-made sounds, but a few of the sounds have bird vocalizations in them. All files are UCS-compliant.

The focus is rather narrow, going for many nuances of the same flavor – rather than many flavors. If you need sounds of a storm or gale in northern European vegetation, then this should fit the bill. Note that there is audible buffeting in several files. I opted to leave it in there, as it might suit some purposes, and let me keep the most violent passages. You can try your luck with noise reduction, but since wind is mostly broadband noise anyway, it might not turn out well. YMMV.

A few sounds appear in both mono and stereo versions, where the stereo version are X/Y derived from the M/S source files and the mono versions are simply the Mid channel. I did this, because most people seem to prefer X/Y files for post-work, rather than M/S – but a down-mix of X/Y to mono would be inferior to using the original Mid-mic signal. All sounds were captured in Denmark between October and January.

    You get:
    • Wind through trees, bushes and tall grass
    • Close recordings and wider takes
    • X/Y Stereo and Mono sounds (decoded from M/S)
    • Searchable file names
    • Metadata included in CSV and ODS (OpenOffice) formats
  • Roomtones Office Space Play Track 134 sounds included, 360 mins total $39

Office Space is an extensive and the go-to collection for clean and constant office environment room tones and ambiences. The library has over 6 hours / 11.7 GB worth of material that covers a whole large modern office building from top to bottom. The length of each room tone is 3 minutes and all the room tones are calibrated to -30 LUFS.

Office Space was recorded with a custom designed very low self-noise (4.5 dB) ORTF rig that gives you only the noise of the room and minimal noise from the recording equipment itself.

The huge variety in the sounds of the room tones gives you a great palette to experiment with various sound design tools so you can create e.g. spaceship ambiences, drones and otherworldly textures.

You get the sounds in two formats: 96 kHz, 24 bit and in 44.1 KHz, 16 bit, for more convenient ways of utilizing the sounds in games and other media.

    Room tones / locations:

Auditorium • Bunker Shelter • Cleaning Closet • Communal Kitchen • Corridor • Elevator Interior • Elevator Lobby • Gaming Area • General Open Office Area • General Open Office Printer Area • Hallway • Large Meeting Room • Large Room • Large Storage Room • Large Vestibule • Lobby • Lounge • Main Lobby • Massage Room • Meeting Room Lounge Area • Parking Garage • Printer Room • Recycling Room • Restaurant Corridor • Restaurant General Dining Area • Restaurant Kitchen • Restaurant Service Cashier Desk • Sauna • Sauna Changing Room • Sauna Lounge Area • Sauna Shower Area • Server Room • Small Cleaning Closet • Small Communal Kitchen • Small Kitchen • Small Meeting Room • Small Phone Booth Room • Small Room • Small Shower • Small Vestibule • Staircase • Storage Room • Toilet

  • Environments & Ambiences Soccer Stadium Ambience Play Track 123 sounds included, 170 mins total $20

Recorded throughout 3 seasons, during the course of more than 10 matches on Sport Lisboa & Benfica’s beautiful Estádio da Luz, Soccer Stadium Ambience gathers a wide range of crowd reactions and emotions; useful for background ambiences that can be applied not only on audiovisual football content but also on other large stadium sports-based projects.

All prominent dialogue between supporters was either removed or toned down with the aid of mastering and EQing software, in order to preserve the neutral nature of this library, allowing certain crowd reactions to flow naturally. There are also no long fade-ins our fade-outs, permitting whoever acquires this library to create their own edits and collages however deemed necessary. Some very light wind and noise removal techniques were applied on certain audio files, without impairing the original mood presented by the crowd.

Between long takes of supporters singing, booing, celebrating goals, reacting to good team moves and bad referee decisions, this nearly 3 hour long library recorded in an always packed location will provide the necessary emotional crowd feedback to your sports-based projects.

  • Environments & Ambiences Interesting Interiors Play Track 28 sounds included, 70 mins total $20

Interesting Interiors is a collection of recordings hand-picked by sound designer and recordist Chris Sweetman from his personal collection. They deliver a selection of interesting beds, ambiences and interior sounds, including both real and surreal sounds to play with.

This collection includes 3 rare recordings of the derelict Star Wars stage at Elstree before its demolition in 1995, as well as large drills from an interior perspective that could be mistaken for huge alarms or horns, an extremely detailed sewer recording, rain falling down an elevator shaft and much more.

  • The collection consists of 43 stereo recordings of 12 rare, industrial machines used many decades ago in German power plants and industrial sites. It includes the sounds of massive 10KV power switches, a Siemens exciter machine (power generator) built in 1945 and many other vintage machines.

All machines were recorded in isolation without background noise and at high sample rates (192 kHz / 24 bit) with a Sound Devices 633 recorder and the Sennheiser MKH 8040 Microphones in close ORTF, taking full advantage of the extended frequency range (30 – 50000 Hz) of the microphones. Some machines were additionally recorded with a stereo setup of Barcus Berry 4000 series contact mics.

The following 12 machines were recorded
    – some in multiple takes:

    • Ash breaker
    • Ash blower
    • Coal dispatcher
    • Siemens exciter machine
    • Gas turbine model
    • Motorized throttle-Flap
    • Oil atomizer
    • Pneumatic power switch
    • 10KV power switch
    • Rotation motor
    • Manual steam machine

  • Industrial Ambiences Coal Mining Play Track 39 sounds included, 164 mins total $33

‘Coal Mining’ is a unique collection of sounds that build the ambience of a momentous industry. You’ll hear the sounds from two coal mines, one surface and one underground, which are normally closed to the public.

The collection consists of two main parts:

Surface Mining features the clatter of a giant bucket-wheel excavator, a cross-pit spreader, a long belt conveyor, and the distinct atmosphere from a large open-pit mine.

Underground Mining includes the striking sounds of an underground mine shaft, recorded at a depth of 1500m. With the clatter from a miners’ elevator ride, a rattling chain conveyor, container movement, and many room tones, you’ll get a remarkable sense of underground working. Recorded in one of the last three active coal mines in Germany.

    Sounds include:
Giant Bucket-wheel excavator, Cross-pit spreader, Long belt conveyor, Mine Shaft ambience, Miners’ Elevator, Train Loading Station, Bucket conveyor, distant mine atmospheres.

Recorded using Schoeps MK4/MK8 MS / CMIT-5U/CCM8 MS microphones and paired with a Sound Devices 702 recorder, the files are also embedded with detailed Soundminer Metadata.

  • Wind Elements – Interior is 75 minutes/2.43 Gb of howling, blasting and fluttering wind, recorded from inside various buildings. 90 separate files – recorded in 24bit/96kHz using Sennheiser MKH & Primo EM172 microphones, and mastered in X/Y stereo. All files are UCS-compliant.

This collection is the bigger, badder sequel to bestseller Howling Winds – Interior, with more of everything: fresh recordings, more types of wind, more locations and just more variation.

Everything from violent blasting and howling, to gentle, caressing wind. Some with sleet and rain, cracking and creaking of window frames and roof materials, others with faint sound of rustling leaves or urban buzz.

You get both long ambiances from various locations, as well as plenty of short files to sweeten up your mix.
Some sounds have been eq’ed aggressively to enhance the feeling of being indoors, but very little processing has been applied otherwise. You’ll hear a bit of hiss here and there; I left it in because I felt noise reduction would take away too much character in those specific cases.

    You get:

    • Indoor wind sounds
    • Howling, blasting, fluttering – a bit of sleet & rain too
    • Lots of variations of each sound
    • Searchable file names
    • BWF Metadata embedded – with more included in CSV and ODS (OpenOffice) formats

  • Environments & Ambiences Bunker Ambients Play Track 23+ sounds included, 57 mins total $18

The library includes room tones with water dripping from ceilings, small pieces of wall falling on the floor and wind getting through destroyed walls.
