Environment recordings, ambiences and soundscapes – from all over the world, and beyond
The library is a collection of atmosphere recordings of different sized/aged forests during summer time in Eastern and Southern Finland.
In these recordings you can hear a huge variety of birds during different times of the day and also some changes of the weather such as multiple states of the wind.
The library contains 30 files (10 FuMa, 10 AmbiX and 10 Stereo files) captured at 24bit/96kHz. Total length of over 1.5 hours.
B-format files are in FuMa and AmbiX format.
With the free SoundField SurroundZone 2 plugin you can convert the B-format files into your preferred format (stereo, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0 or 7.1 surround). There's also other plugin options such as Harpex-X.
The library also contains ready-made stereo (ORTF with wide cardioid pattern) mixdowns for your convenience.
These recordings are very raw. Very little or none denoising, EQ or any other processing method was used.

Get the ambiences and atmospheres of Rwanda, Africa in this sound effects library recorded by Ana Monte. It features recordings from around the capital of Kigali, suburbs, markets, sewing shop, rooftop and roadside recordings, as well as countryside, forest and hillside recordings.
Get the sounds of everyday life in Tokyo, Japan. A quiet neighborhood with moderate traffic, birds singing and a dog barking in the distance. Recorded in densely populated, but quiet and civil Setagaya Ward, Tokyo. All files are UCS-compliant.
Sounds include traffic in the form of cars, trucks, lots of bicycles and pedestrians, commuters at Kyodo Station, cicadas at night, Japanese crows cawing, as well as the unmistakable sounds of a Buddhist cemetery in a light breeze (!). In short; just the right sounds to make Japanese suburbia come alive in your productions.
Recorded exclusively using stealth methods (near-concealed microphones), this is a slice of life, as lived by the locals of this rather pleasant middle-class neighborhood.
Sounds of Istanbul gets you more than 6 hours of oriental-flavored soundscapes and ambiences – gathered around Istanbul, Turkey. It features calls to prayers, bazaars, harbor sounds, Walla, crowds of people passing through the streets and alleys, car traffic, street musicians, both close and distant emergency siren sounds, as well as the quiet crowd at the Istanbul Museum of Modern Art.
So if you’re after middle-eastern city ambiences, Sounds of Istanbul delivers:
A collection of authentic recordings from churches, ceremonies and processions, recorded in Italy. A total of 60 minutes of ambiences are included.
Each sound file has been carefully named and tagged for easy search in Soundminer and is Universal Category System (UCS) compliant.

Create with the dynamic energy of wind. As one of the most challenging subjects to record, wind sounds also inspire a range of creative and practical uses on projects of all types. That’s why we’re proud to present Cinematic Winds: Volume 2 – the exclusive followup to our most popular specialty library, Cinematic Winds.
Like its predecessor, much of this wind sound effects library is curated from legendary film sound designers Ann Kroeber and Alan Splet – both well known for their work with David Lynch and more. Volume 2 expands on this with even more moody, colorful wind recordings from Academy Award®-winning sound artist Richard King (Dunkirk, Inception) plus recordist/sound designer Colin Lechner (Raconteur Sound).
These sounds are full of character – from light breezes and swirling heavy gusts, to carefully-crafted whistling wisps and ghostly roaring swells. Capture the emotive power of wind as it rustles through leaves and howls through windows – ideal for inducing subconscious emotion, imposing a powerful presence, or creating both earthy and surreal soundscapes.
Descriptive embedded metadata helps you find exactly the sound you need with practical, literal interpretations as well as emotional impressions of the sound effects. The wind sounds are grouped into five categories:
Ann Kroeber, Alan Splet, Richard King, Colin Lechner
This ambiences pack is the result of a short field recording trip / road trip I made in October 2019 around the beautiful land/soundscapes of the Scottish Highlands.
I decided to go with a LCR + AB setup, as while testing different options I found it to be very versatile and relatively light and small. All mics were mounted inside the Cinela Albert basket for more convenience, allowing me to capture multichannel ambiences ( virtually 5.0 surround ) with a single thing to set up, and perfectly sheltered from wind.
I came across rivers, streams, lochs, waterfalls, lochs, harbours, lochs, quiet forests, reindeers slabs and more lochs.
This ” Mini Ambience Pack ” contains 24 sounds /72 files embedded with full and detailed metadata ( Soundminer, Basehead, iXML ).
204 retro-themed samples for guaranteed flashbacks.
These sounds are ideal for:
Item Pickup / Drop • Unlock • UI • Weather • Weapon

These sounds will sweeten and add character to your wind sounds. Lots of whistling, squeaking, howling and singing wind. From low rumbles, mid honks to harsh high frequency blows, this modular library is the perfect construction kit for creating otherwordly swirls and heavy storms.
The sounds were recorded at the windorgan in Vlissingen(NL), at the monument Halde Hohenward and in Zoutelande(NL) & Essen(GER).
In addition to the original wind sounds creating tones on objects, you will get a few rattling flagpoles, waving flags and singing flag cords. And some bonus windmill sounds.
About half the sounds are delivered in stereo, the focus though is on mono sounds. I captured the very sweetspot where the wind created unique tones. To focus on these rare events, I mostly used a single spot mic. In winds up to 48 mph you will have carefully selected mic positions for a broad variety of wind torturing different objects.
The stereo files deliver a symphony of wind with various pitches and broad dynamics.
We had the chance to make the crossing of the North Atlantic Ocean on a cargo ship container (ATLANTIC STAR).
We boarded in the Antwerp industrial port in Belgium, sailed the English Channel, and then stopped at Liverpool’s industrial port.
Then we crossed the North Atlantic Ocean to reach Halifax, Canada. This trip took us 10 days, 10 days of sounds recording.
Through this trip, we were able to access places that normally are closed to the public: industrial ports, and a container ship.
-The completed sound bank (Stereo + Surround-Ambisonic) contains 154 files record in 24 bit / 96 kHz

19 out of 20 locations are interior, so traffic noise is either minimum or absent. English (with British accent) is obviously present in all the files.

'South India' is a unique collection of 55 sounds recorded and produced with high quality equipment. Recorded over many months and different seasons with DPA, Neumann and Audio Technica mics powered by an Aeta Mixy, this collection includes:
Chain Ferry features the remarkable sounds of a 100 year old ferry with a specific drive system. The ferry pulls along a strong chain lying at the ground of the river to cross. This is achieved by a clever combination of 3 drive wheels that guide the chain and prevent it from dropping to the ground.
The Library contains several complete audio takes of the ferry in action – from departure to arrival. This encompasses engine start, engine idle, loading ramp noises and bangs plus a lot of chain rattling from various perspectives. The sounds are recorded aboard and from both sides of the river so that the entire scenery can be covered acoustically.
Get the sounds of gas and water running through massive and tiny pipes, at three processing sites closed to the public.
This library delivers the sounds of a gas control station, a sewage plant and a waterworks. We recorded the hissing of gas, low drones of water rushing through massive pipes, and the sounds of various stages of sewage processing, recorded indoors and outdoors in multiple locations and rooms throughout the three facilities. The library includes close-up sound effects, indoor and outdoor ambiences, and features ambiences and stereo contact mic recordings of active gas and water pipes, capturing the various resonating pipes in isolation.
Total play time of all recordings is just under 2 hours.
Introducing Docks, an authentic collection of industrial harbor sounds captured in Dunkerque, France. Sintra’s woods are famous for their mystique and peculiar flora selection, a result of its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and by men’s own ingenuity on planting foreign species over the course of multiple centuries, resulting in a location that’s green throughout the four seasons, attracting a wide array of bird species and constant weather changes, sometimes all in a single day.
Taking advantage of RØDE’s NT-SF1 ambisonic microphone, the woods were thoroughly explored, where each of the 25 audio files present in this library were recorded on different locations, resulting on multiple diverse atmospheres, where the predominant soundscapes are the beautiful early morning bird calls with smooth wind gusts and a couple of surprises happening throughout, courtesy of strange insects, angry ducks flying around, amongst other oddities.
These audio files are perfect for neutral springtime soundscapes and given the nature of ambisonics, you can easily convert these B Format files onto any desired format (like regular stereo, 5.1 or 7.1 surround) with the correct plug-in, like RØDE’s own SoundField, which happens to be free to download. These are raw recordings where little to no hum or hiss removal techniques were applied.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
