Nature & Countryside Ambiences

Nature sound effects and recordings, from forests, jungles, plains and fields

  • Sounds of Nature: Tasmania Ambiences features nature sounds and ambiences, captured in many different parts of Tasmania at different times of day.

It includes recordings in rainforests, deciduous forests, Tall Tree forests, coastal forests, grasslands and other settings. Many typical Tasmanian birds are to be heard, including the Yellow-tailed black Cockatoos, Yellow Wattlebirds, Green Rosellas, Bellbirds, Ravens and of course Laughing Kookaburras. You can also find recordings of the Eastern Banjo Frog, different crickets and other insects.

Locations include: Cradle Mountain National Park, Mount Field National Park, Freycinet National Park, Bruny Island, Styx Forest Reserve and Lake Binney Reserve.

Get more than 9 hours of unique, royalty-free and especially high quality recordings with this library.

All of our nature ambiences are recorded using three different microphone set-ups. A Stereo set-up. A wide stereo set-up. And a spaced omnis set-up, which also offers extended frequency response. This brings you 3 variations of each recording. Within these variations the differences are sometimes subtle and sometimes more extreme. To be used as needed and providing flexibility for crosscutting within scenes.

All nature recordings are clear and free from external noise and other human disruptions. Recorded in 24 bit / 96 kHz. Accurately edited and mastered to sound as natural as possible.

The average length of each file is between 3-5 minutes so enough time to use in longer scenes without looping.

For more detailed descriptions about the ambiences in this collection see the metadata in our file lists or listen to the preview montage.

  • Nature & Countryside Ambiences NXNW – Cascadia 2017 Play Track 69+ sounds included, 209 mins total $30

This library of environmental recordings is the culmination of three recording expeditions to the stunningly gorgeous Pacific Northwest. We visited a variety of locations ranging from urban Vancouver, Portland, and Seattle to the wild and untamed Olympic Peninsula. We captured dynamically disparate sounds such as a noisy Seattle shipyard and the quietest location in the continental US – deep within the primordial Hoh Rainforest. There are excellent crowd wallas, and contemplative mountain streams. From beaches to mountain tops to luxury high rises no environment was left un-recorded! This is what the Northwest sounds like!

In all, this library features 69 individual files totaling over three hours of runtime. Total un-zipped file size is over six gigabytes. All sounds have been edited to remove discernable dialog and unwanted noises. What’s left is pure, loop-able ambience suitable for no-fuss editing.

All sounds were captured on a Sound Devices 744T recorder. Microphones used include a Sanken CSS-5 stereo mic and a matched stereo pair of Sennheiser 8040s in ORTF configuration. All recordings are accompanied by a high quality photograph for reference and tagged with Pro Tools searchable metadata.

    Bonus library included:

As a special incentive we will also include a bonus mini-library of ambiences from the Irish countryside that James recorded on a recent trip home! Highlights include some great mountain winds and a rare recording of a starling formation taking flight!

  • A great add-on library for anyone looking to expand their weather sounds. A collection of recordings made during travels in Iceland, Sweden, England and France. A couple surround versions as well as stereo versions of rich and moody winds across plains and through leaves, plenty of interior winds through window gaps and chimneys, and water in several forms; rain, bubbles, geysers and more.

  • “Wilderness Americas : Geyser and Volcano” is a collection of sounds focused on geothermal phenomena of Central and North America.

We recorded geysers in the Yellowstone National Park (USA) and two very actives volcanoes: the Fuego in Guatemala, and the Masaya in Nicaragua.

To complete this sound library, we added natural sound elements which are very efficient for sound design as designed sound material:

“Super volcano” eruption sounds, magma lake ebullition sounds, lava movement, and landslide sounds.

The geyser and Masaya volcano sounds (magma lake, lava movement) were recorded with the Telinga Parabola with a Sennheiser MKH 8040. The Telinga was used for its powerful ability to focus on sound details at a reasonable distance.

The explosions and eruptions of the Fuego volcano were recorded in surround with a Sennheiser DMS setup (MKH 8040-30) and also with the Telinga Parabola + MKH 8020.

-This sound bank contains 56 sound takes recorded in 24/96 kHz, and a total of 122 files.

  • Nature & Countryside Ambiences Water Streams One Play Track 20 sounds included, 60+ mins total $15

‘Water Streams One’ is the first library in my ‘Water Streams’ series that explores the bubbly and roaring sounds of rapids, rivers and streams found all around Finland.

The library consists of 19 unique sounding locations ranging from large rapids to tiny streams. Most of the content was recorded in quiet Northern Finland locations and I even visited the Oulanka National Park to record its famous large roaring rapids.

Due to challenging and hard to access locations I decided to record the library with portable Sony handheld recorders utilizing ORTF and XY techniques.

The average length of each file is between 2-4 minutes so you can easily create your own loops for video games and other media.

  • Water & Ocean Sounds Water Exploration Play Track 26 sounds included, 82 mins total $20

These sounds were recorded over 3 years in southern Australia.

It comprises ambience and atmosphere recordings of beach waves, forest streams, rivers, a dripping cave system and even a sewage processing plant (The Poo Machine!!). There are also Hydrophone recordings of urban swamp insect life, jetties and water treatment systems. Many of the recordings offer multiple perspectives of the same subject from close up to distant.

They were all recorded using Sennheiser, DPA, Sanken and Soundfield Mics as well as a pair of Hydrophones. All recorded into Sound Devices 788 or 633 recorders.

The recordings were mixed to stereo with minimal post processing.

Most files are loopable. And great care was taken to record clean sounds that are useable in an edit.

I hope you enjoy and find these useful for you projects.

The Beach sounds were recorded on the Mornington Penunsula in Victoria Australia. The waves range from gentle currents lapping at the sand to heavy surf waves. Different perspectives from close to distant were recorded to give greater flexibility when editing. These were recorded using a pair of supercardioid mics.

The cave recordings were captured at the Yarrangobilly caves in the Kosciuszko National Park, they feature a continuously dripping soundscape. The entrance to one of the caves is a large cavern with part of the roof caved in. In this space birds dart around and water drips. Further into the cave there is just the continual dripping of water. These were recorded using a spaced pair of Omni mics to give a sense of space and a centre hypercardiod to pick some detailed drips.

Also captured at Kosciuszko National Park are some recordings of rain and wind gusts through trees. I was able to place the microphones and recorders into protected rock formation and leave them recording for hours on end.

A pair of hydrophones was used to explore an urban water treatment project at the Trin Warren Tam-boore (Bellbird Waterhole) The wetland has been designed to treat water from the surrounding area through natural biological processes.  It provides water to irrigation systems for the Royal Park Golf Course and other sporting grounds in Royal Park.

I was able to record pumped water flow as well as a symphony of underwater insects. The insects probably included Backswimmers and Dragonfly larvae, often called ‘mudeyes’, amongst others.

The streams and rivers were recorded in both country New South Wales and Victoria. Most of these recordings were captured using Soundfield Microphones, the ST450 Mk2 as well as the SPS200. There is a variety of fast flowing, gentle, close up and distant. As well as a ’study on fishing from a tin boat’. No fish were caught.!!

And finally a machine. A sewage treatment plant gives us a great slopping, mixing sludge sound.

I hope you enjoy these sounds.

  • Nature & Countryside Ambiences Birds and Nature Play Track 86 sounds included, 124 mins total $89

Over two hours of birds, crickets, cicadas and frogs primarily from Southern Ontario, Canada, but also from Britain and Costa Rica. Specific calls and ambiences from the forest, the beach, the neighbourhood or on the dock of a quiet pond. Essential sounds to bring background tracks to life.

  • COUNTRYSIDE WINTER – Ambisonics brings you 15 ambisonic atmospheres recorded during different times of a day in winter: early morning, morning, afternoon, evening and night.

All these recordings have been done in Sierra Morena, Andalusia (Spain). Being winter, birds tend to be much quiet and insects are almost gone, so most of the ambiences are pretty silent. You will hear mainly birds such as sparrows, doves and woodpeckers. At night dogs and roosters make an appearance.

Recordings have been done with a Sennheiser Ambeo + Zoom F8. All files are in 96 kHz/24 bit and meta-tagged.

    About this library:

This Ambisonics sound effects library contains the original recordings in A-Format (no processing whatsoever) and in B-format (AmbiX). By using Harpex, 5.1 (LRCLfeLsRs) and stereo (ORTF) mixdowns have been also added. Note that the Lfe channel is mute. It hasn’t been removed to follow the SMPTE  path order.

The Ambisonics version contains all the formats. Stereo version only includes the stereo files.

Soundcloud demo plays the stereo version.
