Nature sound effects and recordings, from forests, jungles, plains and fields
The Dark Woods Ambience sound effects library contains sounds of natural night ambiences, all recorded in the woods in Southwest Florida, USA (under trees, woods, etc). All 68 ready to use and loop-able stereo wave files were captured in 24 Bit, 96 kHz stereo (each in 3 or 5 minutes long). There are sounds of birds, a Coyote, frogs, insects, wild pigs, waves/water splashes from fish/wind, thunders, etc (check out the file names). See if you can identify what the two creatures are that approached my microphone. One of the creatures dragged the microphone fur a few feet away!
A premium collection of cinematic sound effects of wind and water recorded in the semi-desert habitats of the North Sahara.
Please scroll down for full info and file list.
The west is still wild. A collection of clean and loopable natural ambient atmosphere elements – each 3 minutes long. This collection represents my best content and works great in multitrack layers.
The core of this collection are natural sounds captured in the wilds of Oregon, USA – Western North America. The wildlife in the forests, streams, lakes, coast, and deserts of Oregon are a good substitute for most US and Canadian states west of the Rocky Mountains, including Washington, California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, British Colombia, Alberta, Alaska, and Wyoming.
These recordings are from a pristine environment that avoid any human caused sounds.
Dive down in the dark abyss and experience the cold otherworlds with sharp currents and muddy bottom…
Following the legacy of Dive Deep 1 from 2016, here comes Dive Deep 2 with a new generation of underwater ambiences. The sounds of rushing, bubbling currents have been created with more impressive details, clarity and definition. And there are other design styles at your disposal too, such as flat pads, grainy trickling, otherworldly drones or deep kicking moves.
Discover the quaint charm of a sleepy Northern English town, on a cold and windy night, the sound of windchimes shimmering through the air.
The Dormant Village Library was recorded in a small village in North Yorkshire, England, on the night before Christmas. It was very cold and windy, and there were almost no people around, as everyone was sipping hot cocoa in their homes.
The library was recorded in a few different locations, some close to the little traffic that was still present, and some further away. The recordings were then polished and edited down to just about 12 minutes, preserving the essence of the location.
In addition to the descriptive SoundMiner metadata embedded in the files, I have also added markers in iZotope RX, which can be read in some versions of SoundMiner, Reaper, etc.
The markers indicate small sonic events, such as distant, melodic windchimes, or when the wind picks up, allowing you to understand what happens throughout the recording without having to listen to the whole thing.
This library is the result of a really special recording trip, with field recording legend Chris Watson. Chris Watson's work as a wildlife sound recordist has covered television documentaries and experimental musical collaborations. We spent 4 days in Delta Ebro learning from him!
We recorded in ambisonic (Zoom F8 and Sennheiser Ambeo VR Mic), and decoded and mixed in Dolby ATMOS at AdHoc Studios.
We recorded 13 beautiful tracks in ambisonic format. As always, top quality recordings specially designed for film audio projects.
Ambiences recorded during the month of March 2017 throughout a 3 weeks trip dedicated to the sonic capture.
The library comprises all aspects of the mainland Ecuadorian life, with the 3 geographical tropes: the coast, the highlands (Sierra) and the jungle (Oriente), along with diverse urban settings (in the capital city Quito, and in diverse town size, coastal, Andean and Amazonian)
The itinerary on Polar Steps:
Eerie Forest is a collection of subtle ambiences recorded at night in dense forests in the regions of Transylvania and Moldova, Romania over two trips in Spring and Autumn 2017. The library features soft wind, distant hum, vegetation rustles, dogs barking at various distances, church bells tolling, a variety of owl species and other birds like ravens and woodcocks. All these elements are not foreground, but rather washed-out, echoey and atmospheric.
Eerie Forest is not suitable for foreground sound elements as the recordings are very soft and subtle. Make sure you check out the demos before you purchase.
This library was compiled over the course of 5 years with 3 different recorders (Sony D50, Zoom H6 and Roland R07). The Roland was used in stealthy situations because of its size.
This collection of tracks depict the sound of traffic, both near and far, with the (seemingly) constant hum of the Los Angeles helicopter. There are plenty of those in these recordings, as well as a good variety of locations and situations. I believe this library represents the actual sound of Los Angeles in a general sense.
All tracks have been mastered in Pro Tools, with light compression to even out the bumps, and use EQ here and there to hide the rumble and calm the hiss. All bumps and unwanted noise has been edited out for the best result.
I hope you appreciate this collection, as I’ve used all the tracks myself. In most cases, these sounds have been bolstered and mastered for a fuller, more interesting sound.
All tracks have full metadata implemented for a clear and concise explanation of each track.
Ethiopia is a unique collection of 62 sounds recorded through central and northern part of Ethiopia during a period of holly festivities.
All these sounds has been recorded and produced with high quality equipment.
This library provides authentic and interesting sounds, recorded with DPA, MBHO and Neumann mics powered by an Aeta 4minX.
All Faunethic tracks includes metadata carefully edited, compatible with Soundminer, Soundly and Basehead.
The Eurasian Cranes sound effects library gets you the sound of almost 1500 Eurasian Cranes (Common Cranes) singing their song at the same time. It features 13 stereo wav files and nearly 70 minutes of these unique recordings.

With this second forest opus, you will add details to your forest atmosphere. Various foliage, cracking branches, night animals and other great elements that will enhance the surrounding nature. From pine, to deciduous trees and exotic foliage this collection will help you to cover many type of forest ambiances.
The Forest Ambience 1 library focuses on the ambient sounds of Central Florida’s forest ecology. The focus of this library is a collection of as much general background ambience as possible with minimal focus on any one individual element. It also focuses on a Mid Day – Early Dusk time frame.
The range of ambiences include windy gusts through thick canopies, forests alive with birds and bugs, and erie dead silences void of any life recorded near one of the nation’s largest active bombing ranges. Also included are a few plane flyovers and some outdoor trail ambience near an apartment complex as a bonus.
Captured in environments such as:
• Bottomland hardwoods
• Pine Flatwoods

'Forest Ambience One' is the first library in my nature ambience series where I intend to record the vast and unique forests of Finland and their changing sound between the four seasons.
This library consists of 21 unique pine and birch forest ambiences recorded in Northern Finland during summer. Most of the ambiences have occasional birds in them but I was lucky to capture the sound of the forests without the birds too.
Due to the varying weather during the summer I also decided to record some of the locations when it was raining lightly and also when the rain had passed to get that after rain dribble.
The average length of each ambience is between 3-5 minutes so you can easily create your own ambience loops for e.g. video games.
Forest Ambience One is recorded with Sound Devices 702 and a stereo pair of Sennheiser 8040's in ORTF – and you get the sounds in two formats: 96 kHz, 24 bit and in 44.1 KHz, 16 bit, for more convenient ways of utilizing the sounds in games and other media.
A varied collection of forest atmospheres – from very quiet places like “Sequoia” National park to more lively woods, this library gives you great material with nice acoustics. Ambisonic recordings are particularly great for those sounds.
Get a collection of 134 impulse responses – recorded in the forest.
What if, instead of going to the forest to record the sound, we can find a way to bring the characteristics of the forest to us? Say, for example, we have recorded a sound in the studio like the sound of chopping wood or foley footsteps, but we want them to sound like they are in the forest?
There is a way to emulate this. To make our source sound like it is, in fact, in a forest. The answer is to use the impulse response of the forest and one of the convolution reverb plugins for your DAW.
An impulse response of the forest (or “forest IR”), is the sum of reflections from trees, foliage and the ground by very short signal at high volume. For this sound library, I recorded different impulses in a stereo at different locations of the forest with perfect conditions. Also, the library includes alternate versions of these impulses for use in the processing of the sounds that are far away from the listener.
For using these impulse responses, you need a convolution reverb plugin (not included). The library can be used with the built-in convolution plugins in many DAWs like ProTools, FL Studio amd Sony Vegas, and there are other commercial options on the market, but costs can be high. For starters, you can use a free convolution reverb from the following
LiquidSonics’ Reverberate LE (Win)
SIR by Christian Knufinke (Win)
A wide choice of IR’s will allow you to choose the most appropriate nuanced impulse response for your material. As you gain more experience with this forest IR, you will find that you can quickly adjust the ratio and volume level for wet and dry channels and effectively use other options of convolution reverb. This powerful forest reverb emulation will be incredibly effective for your sounds.
FOREST summer edition of Japan is nature sounds and ambiances captured in different forests of Central Japan, from the Kanto region.

This library was recorded in southern France and Komagane, Japan for a diverse collection of cricket, grasshopper and frog sounds. With a Fostex FR2, Sennheiser 418S and Olympus LS11, these focused sounds were captured without the rumbling of nearby traffic or wind. They are clean enough to be dropped right into your project, and they are long enough to offer loop points for interactive use.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
