Water Experiment is a library regrouping several water recording sessions. This bundle contains many different methods to manipulate and to hear water. In this first bundle of a series, you can hear Water waves ambiance and flap, river stream and different water flow perspectives; Bubbles of water in movement with objects manipulation or only with hand; Blowing and boiling water bubbles; Different sizes of water splash movements and dripping; Spraying water sounds from a water hose, bottle and pump bottle; And movements, splash, flow, and bubbles from underwater recordings. The bundle includes 540 files recorded at 96khz – 24bits.

A great tool to have for any audio production.

Each sound has been meticulously edited individually. All files were recorded and are delivered in 24bit 96kHz Broadcast Wave files, all embedded with metadata information for easy import and ensure fast and easy workflow.

  • These sounds were recorded over 3 years in southern Australia.

It comprises ambience and atmosphere recordings of beach waves, forest streams, rivers, a dripping cave system and even a sewage processing plant (The Poo Machine!!). There are also Hydrophone recordings of urban swamp insect life, jetties and water treatment systems. Many of the recordings offer multiple perspectives of the same subject from close up to distant.

They were all recorded using Sennheiser, DPA, Sanken and Soundfield Mics as well as a pair of Hydrophones. All recorded into Sound Devices 788 or 633 recorders.

The recordings were mixed to stereo with minimal post processing.

Most files are loopable. And great care was taken to record clean sounds that are useable in an edit.

I hope you enjoy and find these useful for you projects.

The Beach sounds were recorded on the Mornington Penunsula in Victoria Australia. The waves range from gentle currents lapping at the sand to heavy surf waves. Different perspectives from close to distant were recorded to give greater flexibility when editing. These were recorded using a pair of supercardioid mics.

The cave recordings were captured at the Yarrangobilly caves in the Kosciuszko National Park, they feature a continuously dripping soundscape. The entrance to one of the caves is a large cavern with part of the roof caved in. In this space birds dart around and water drips. Further into the cave there is just the continual dripping of water. These were recorded using a spaced pair of Omni mics to give a sense of space and a centre hypercardiod to pick some detailed drips.

Also captured at Kosciuszko National Park are some recordings of rain and wind gusts through trees. I was able to place the microphones and recorders into protected rock formation and leave them recording for hours on end.

A pair of hydrophones was used to explore an urban water treatment project at the Trin Warren Tam-boore (Bellbird Waterhole) The wetland has been designed to treat water from the surrounding area through natural biological processes.  It provides water to irrigation systems for the Royal Park Golf Course and other sporting grounds in Royal Park.

I was able to record pumped water flow as well as a symphony of underwater insects. The insects probably included Backswimmers and Dragonfly larvae, often called ‘mudeyes’, amongst others.

The streams and rivers were recorded in both country New South Wales and Victoria. Most of these recordings were captured using Soundfield Microphones, the ST450 Mk2 as well as the SPS200. There is a variety of fast flowing, gentle, close up and distant. As well as a ’study on fishing from a tin boat’. No fish were caught.!!

And finally a machine. A sewage treatment plant gives us a great slopping, mixing sludge sound.

I hope you enjoy these sounds.

  • Environments Water Flow by Soundholder Play Track 90+ sounds included, 188 mins total $40

Water Flow took six months to create, and offers 90 BWAV files recorded in different locations. A huge part of this library is based on the recording sessions by (and in) rivers. Most recordings were done during the winter just before sunrise, to reduce the amount of unwanted sounds.

Almost all recordings are completely clear and free from any birds in the background.

The first location was river called Łyna, and there I’ve recorded a sound of water flowing at different speeds, along with the sound of a dam reducing the speed and height of the river’s flow. The second interesting part of this location was the amount of fallen trees in the water, causing the water to split. Because of this, there was a lot of sonically interesting places to record.

The second river is called Guber, and it’s much smaller than Łyna. I’ve picked this place because of the really subtle water streams, and something even more amazing, natural dams built by beavers. The amount of work these animals put to built those dams is incredible.

In addition to recorded rivers, this library also includes the sound of water dripping inside underground sewers. During one of my field recording trips I discovered a hatch. I could not resist to go inside, and what I discovered there was far beyond my expectations. I made a two small trips there to record it from different distances, with different microphones in mono and stereo.

  • Nature & Countryside Water Streams One Play Track 20 sounds included, 60+ mins total $15

'Water Streams One' is the first library in my 'Water Streams' series that explores the bubbly and roaring sounds of rapids, rivers and streams found all around Finland.

The library consists of 19 unique sounding locations ranging from large rapids to tiny streams. Most of the content was recorded in quiet Northern Finland locations and I even visited the Oulanka National Park to record its famous large roaring rapids.

Due to challenging and hard to access locations I decided to record the library with portable Sony handheld recorders utilizing ORTF and XY techniques.

The average length of each file is between 2-4 minutes so you can easily create your own loops for video games and other media.

You get the sounds in two formats: 96 KHz 24 bit and in 44.1 KHz 16 bit, for more convenient ways of utilizing the sounds in games and other media.

    WHAT’S INSIDE

    INCLUDED SOUNDS – KEYWORDS

WETLANDS, NATURE, SWAMPS, MARSH, BIRDS, INSECTS, SANHILLS, BREEZES, GOOSE, FRESHWATER, WATER, FROGS, LAKES, LAPS, MOSQUITOS, SPLASHES, GURGLES, BOULDERS, FISH, FLOPPY, POPPING, THUNDERSTORMS, SHOPPING, BUBBLY, WAVES, PONDS, QUACKS, DUCKS, BIOSPHERES, WILDLIFE, RAINFALLS, LAKES, BEAVER, TAIL

    VARIOUS STANDING WATER ENVIRONMENTS

As used here, WETLANDS include places with standing fresh water such as swamps, marshes, ponds, and lakes. In fact, it’s the water itself that creates these very special acoustic biospheres – as a propagator of sounds, causing them to travel further and louder due to surface reflections and temperature layers.

    RICH WILDLIFE SYMPHONIES

WETLANDS encloses recordings of wildlife and scenery at different day times and intensities. Are you looking for recordings of birds playing and hurrying across the water? Late evening frog concerts? Rainfall lapping on the lake? The slap of a beaver tail? Let these examples give you a fair idea of what this beautiful collection has on its great content list.

  • Wilderness Americas : Amazon Rainforest is a collection of sounds captured in the West part of the Amazon basin (El Oriente) across 3 South American countries : Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia.

This library focuses on the wildlife and wilderness sounds of the Amazon rainforest/jungle.
Reaching the Amazon region is not easy and need many resources and time.
Also the weather conditions are very bad for people and audio equipment: Extreme humidity, rain and heat don’t work great with microphones and recorders.
We have selected audio gear specifically for this purpose: Tropicalized microphones : sennheiser MKH 8020 and MKH 30 series in a surround configuration + a world-renowned recorder : Sound devices Mixpre 10T. We also brought a humidity-proof microphone basket (Cinela)
This weather-proof setup permitted us to record even under strong tropical rain. (We have also a special mic cover which reduces the sound of raindrops on the microphone basket)

We have always focused on places where they protect and respect the “Selva” (Forest), especially places like National Parks, Research Stations or community places.
-> We went recording in these places: Madidi National Park (BOLIVIA), Podocarpus National Park (Ecuador), “Jatun Sasha” biological station (Ecuador),
The forest around the Rio Napo (an affluent connection to the amazon river) (Ecuador), the “Reserva de Produccion Faunistica Cuyabeno” (Ecuador), and the region around Mocoa, between Santa Rosa Canyon and the Paway Reserva (Colombia).

We used “sound trap” technics for long and immersive recordings: We hid microphones and protected recorders in a waterproof bag and let it sit for days and nights in the middle of the rainforest (usually 24 hours of non-stop recording).
This system allowed us to record the sunrise, dawn chorus, and sunset – times where the animals are more active.
Here is some animals we have recorded :

Exotics Birds and more, especially parrots, parakeet, cuckoo, Oro Pendulo, cacique, magpie, etc.
Insects and more, especially crickets, cicadas, mosquitos, flies, etc.
Mammal : Amazonian flying squirrel, spider monkeys, and howler monkeys
    Amphibians: Frogs, toads

Each sound recording are tagged with GPS coordinates and full Soundminer metadata.

-The Full sound bank (Stereo + Surround/Ambisonic) contains 117 sound takes recorded in 24/96khZ (Total length : 566 minutes) and decline in 351 files

  • “Wilderness Americas : Geyser and Volcano” is a collection of sounds focused on geothermal phenomena of Central and North America.

We recorded geysers in the Yellowstone National Park (USA) and two very actives volcanoes: the Fuego in Guatemala, and the Masaya in Nicaragua.

To complete this sound library, we added natural sound elements which are very efficient for sound design as designed sound material:

“Super volcano” eruption sounds, magma lake ebullition sounds, lava movement, and landslide sounds.

The geyser and Masaya volcano sounds (magma lake, lava movement) were recorded with the Telinga Parabola with a Sennheiser MKH 8040. The Telinga was used for its powerful ability to focus on sound details at a reasonable distance.

The explosions and eruptions of the Fuego volcano were recorded in surround with a Sennheiser DMS setup (MKH 8040-30) and also with the Telinga Parabola + MKH 8020.

-This sound bank contains 56 sound takes recorded in 24/96 kHz, and a total of 122 files.

  • Wind In Broadleaf Trees is a collection of recordings focusing on wind through broadleaf trees. Recorded in a Swedish forest in October it is representative of the most common broadleaf trees in Europe and other areas with a temperate climate.

In this collection I wanted to capture evocative and emotional wind sounds, from the soothing and relaxing soft winds, tense moderate winds, dramatic strong winds and the transitions between the different emotions or speeds of wind.

The collection was recorded at 24 bits 96Khz with an A-B stereo setup. It contains both longer files, with two minutes and more in length and shorter files edited to be a seamless loop. The files also come with embedded metadata.

  • Weather Wind In Trees Play Track 32 sounds included, 93 mins total $28

Here are ambient and specific recordings of rustling leaves, fluttering twigs and creaking trunks. Pine and Fir trees, Beechwood hedgerows and leafless Oak trees, along tall grass and reeds. All in all, a collection representative of the cultured landscape in Denmark, as well as much of northern Europe. I was lucky enough to record a storm during the last days of 2016, and those sounds are of course included here. No human voices or man-made sounds, but a few of the sounds have bird vocalizations in them.

The focus is rather narrow, going for many nuances of the same flavor – rather than many flavors. If you need sounds of a storm or gale in northern European vegetation, then this should fit the bill. Note that there is audible buffeting in several files. I opted to leave it in there, as it might suit some purposes, and let me keep the most violent passages. You can try your luck with noise reduction, but since wind is mostly broadband noise anyway, it might not turn out well. YMMV.

A few sounds appear in both mono and stereo versions, where the stereo version are X/Y derived from the M/S source files and the mono versions are simply the Mid channel. I did this, because most people seem to prefer X/Y files for post-work, rather than M/S – but a down-mix of X/Y to mono would be inferior to using the original Mid-mic signal. All sounds were captured in Denmark between October and January.

    You get:
    • Wind through trees, bushes and tall grass
    • Close recordings and wider takes
    • X/Y Stereo and Mono sounds (decoded from M/S)
    • Searchable file names
    • Metadata included in CSV and ODS (OpenOffice) formats

  • Many years of trekking in the Dovre mountains (Dovrefjell) at heights from 900 to 1200 masl. and temperatures reaching down to -20°C, has led to many unique recordings.

My main goal when on Dovrefjell was to capture the “sound” of the harsh climate that dominates up there. Subsequently it was hard to avoid the ever restless wind. But it can be quite tricky to capture the sound of wind (or rather the sound of wind on or through objects) and there are only some “sweet spots”, in this vast high altitude climate scattered with rocks and tiny trees, that will generate a good recording.

These recordings were done crouching behind rocks, on cliff sides, on top of summits, behind weathered shelters, old mountain farms and bushes. Partially freezing my hands of, operating recording equipment.
