Nature & Countryside

Nature sound effects and recordings, from forests, jungles, plains and fields

  • This is a small collection of nature sounds and ambiences, captured at the coast of Northland, New Zealand. You can hear many different birds, including the Tui, Bellbird and Barbary Dove. You can also find tracks with lots of very loud and noisy Chorus cicadas. As well as more quiet crickets at night.

All nature recordings are clear and completely free from external noise and other human disruptions, which is why this library will be especially useful for productions taking place in medieval times and nature documentaries. The average length of each file is between 3-5 minutes, so enough time to use in longer scenes without looping. All of these nature ambiences are recorded using three different microphone set-ups. A Stereo set-up. A wide stereo set-up. And a spaced omnis set-up, which also offers extended frequency response. This brings you 3 variations of each recording. Within these variations the differences are sometimes subtle and sometimes more extreme. These three perspectives can provide flexibility for crosscutting within scenes.

Get more than 2 hours of unique, royalty-free and especially high quality recordings with this library.

Recorded in 24 bit / 96 kHz. Accurately edited and mastered to sound as natural as possible. The average length of each file is between 3-5 minutes, so enough time to use in longer scenes without looping.

  • Here is the thunder I recorded in 1988, to DAT with an ORTF pair of Schoeps MK-4s, which includes a strike from ~12′ away!  Hair standing up on end and everything.  You may know some of this material as what I released through “The Hollywood Edge Signature Series” back in 1993.  Well, a lot has changed.  More than half the material was then unusable back then due to rain ‘ruining’ the recordings.  Not so with Izotope RX 7 Advanced.  Rain?  What rain?  Not a drop survived.  Not.  A.  Drop.

Painstakingly remastered to 96kHz 32-bit floating-point (no shortcuts padding it with useless zeros: That would be cheap and lazy).  Embrace it; it’s our near-future and everything I publish from here on out will be as such.

Hundreds and hundreds of mic capsule failures were repaired along with plenty of distortion – without removing any time; so if you line up the old with the now new, they won’t hold sync for long.  Back then all I could do was cut out time.  No more.  Come hear the utter clarity and crispness of this thunder as it should be.  To differentiate and make it quick and easy for people to cut, I’ve called the very close strikes “Lightning” and the not-as-close strikes “Thunder”.  Already prepped in/for Soundminer ready to go, and a spreadsheet document for those using other systems.

  • Here a library of one of the most active volcano in Europe: The Stromboli.

The actual sound library contains 73 sound recordings for a size of 2.6 GB.

Eruptions were recording mainly from three distances:

    • at 200m of altitude and 1,3km distance from cratere

    • at 400m of altitude and 1km distance from cratere

    • at 850m of altitude and 500m distance from cratere

I stayed here one month to manage to have the most diversified eruptions that offer Iddu the volcano. A friend who accompanied me did beautiful shoots with cameras and drone. You can have a look to the video. This project brought us to another one, that’s coming up in the next months, a type of documentary about the whole island and his inhabitants.

So in the future I will add more sounds of Stromboli, the city, the people, the sea, the animals, the ambient etc… that you could listen and download for free on my website.

I wanted this sound library focused on the eruptions, but I put also a few recording of the waves and water because they sound particularly strong and they suggest the volcano’s sound: All the island is little made of “fresh” lava’s rock, that make every impact very resonant in the bass frequencies.

This library contains also a few ambient of the island, his city and his surrounding nature. And some roomtone corresponding to the place where I recorded the eruptions.

All recording made with the Nagra VI. Neumann mics, audio technica MS and Micromix amp for some specifics recording.
