DESCRIPTION:
• In African Grey Parrot, get a musical collection of parrot vocalizations from Myrtle the parrot. Hear short squeaks so adorable I couldn’t help but smile and powerful clicks that sound like alien languages. Hear visceral screeches that could cause nightmares and playful whistles so musical you’d think she had a tune stuck in her head.
• This library offers you a collection of sounds from a fascinating species. I didn’t know one parrot could make such a wide variety of vocalizations and it was a joy to hear them for the first time as I got to know Myrtle over several sessions. I hope you enjoy them too. Thanks for listening.
California Grassland Wildlife is a collection of 95 Stereo and 33 Quad Recordings of over 30 different species of birds that can be found in Grassland, Plains, and High Desert Environments. Also included are a few recordings of Coyotes, Grasshoppers, Insects. Some other quieter ambiences are included as well.
Most of the recordings from this library took place in The Carrizo Plain, an open expanse of Grassland that spans 50 miles long and 15 miles wide West of the Mojave Desert in California’s Central Valley. It’s an arid area far from any towns, and a fairly harsh environment that most years gets very little rain. A number of dirt roads go on for miles and stretch across the flat plain and hilly landscape, eventually leading up to the Temblor and Caliente Ranges. Abandoned and weathered dilapidated remnants of old ranches, water tanks, barns, metal sheds, farm machinery, vehicles, and corrals from a bygone era of the west can be discovered if one ventures off the beaten path.
At first glance, one wouldn’t think there’d be much wildlife out there, but I discovered it’s an area that has quite a bit going on. A lot of the old structures, along with the few areas with trees become the resting place and shelters for birds and animals. Over a span of two years I made a number of trips to this location trying to capture as much of the local wildlife as I could. Â
Included are sounds from Dawn, Morning, Afternoon, Dusk, and late evening. Perspectives vary from extremely close to medium and distant. I’ve split out the sounds by species and more Active, Medium, Specific, in order to give a lot of flexibility when trying to use these sounds for projects.
Barn Owls chirping overhead, the single rhythmic call of Bell’s Sparrows, the close hooting of Great Horned Owl’s, the constant cooing of Doves, Ravens slowly traveling over an open field, Finches swarming and providing quite the cacophony. Detailed sounds of wings of birds and grasshoppers. Coyotes howling in the distance. It was a lot of fun putting this one all together.
California Grassland Abandoned is the companion library to this one and is more focused on Ambiences, winds, and sounds from Abandoned Structures.

Every now and then an opportunity comes along that you just cannot pass up. The chance of going on a recording trip to Zimbabwe alongside someone who knows the area and many locals was exactly that.
I traveled to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe in August of 2023. As the dry season and the coldest time of year was still in full swing, the land is dry, and animals travel long distances to reach watering holes and rivers to drink. With the trees dried out and few insects in sight, the soundscape across the steppes is eerily quiet day and night, save for the large number of helicopters flying tourists around during the day.
Not only was it an utterly inspiring experience just taking in the beauty of nature and the warm spirits of the people I have met, it was also an exercise in navigating the challenges of anthropogenic noise becoming more prevalent around the globe. With this time of year being the height of tourism season, capturing the sounds of nature meant having to find pockets of silence to avoid the sounds of helicopters, safari trucks, and trains carrying coal.
By resorting to drop rigs, overnight recording, and getting up before sunrise to record, I captured a wide range of birds, mammals, and ambiences that will let you recreate the soundscapes of this vivid nation in your projects. Of course, I also had to capture the incredible majestic power of Victoria Falls’ namesake waterfalls, both in stereo and Ambisonic format.
A portion of the sales proceeds for this library will be donated to local conservation efforts including Painted Dog Rescue, African Wildlife Foundation, as well as CARE‘s efforts in providing food and nutrition security, climate resilient livelihoods, economic development, education, and water.

Recorded across diverse habitats in Central Europe, this collection is a treasure trove for ornithologists, sound designers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone seeking immersive soundscapes of European avifauna.
The library showcases a variety of species and settings, capturing the vibrant life of mixed forests, deciduous woodlands, and urban environments during different seasons and times of day. From the melodic calls of the Common Chaffinch on a summer morning to the serene, wistful songs of the European Robin in autumn, this collection offers a comprehensive auditory journey through the region’s natural soundscape.
Each track is recorded with high-quality equipment, including KM184 with a Telinga parabolic dish or KMR81i microphones, ensuring pristine sound quality, effective isolation from background noise, and an authentic listening experience. This library features ambiences recorded in China’s Sichuan Mountains, captured primarily from dusk to dawn using drop rig recording equipment. While I aimed to exclude all human-made sounds in this collection, one of my favorite recordings has the sound of distant Buddhist prayer bells chiming as birds begin their morning chorus. A couple of files contain minimal human presence, but the vast majority are purely natural soundscapes. Finding locations free from human activity in China is difficult, making these recordings especially valuable.
The recordings are enriched with UCS naming conventions and detailed metadata, including identifications of many sub-tropical bird species identified using Chirpity and Merlin Bird ID. Some species you can expect to hear include Cuckoo Birds, Great Barbets, Koels, Nightjars, Thrushes, and Roosters.
Listeners can experience low-noise natural ambiences featuring dawn bird choruses, frogs and crickets at night, bat activity, water sources, and rainfall recordings.
*Note: All sounds in this library are included in the Soundscapes of Modern China (SSMC) collection.
Garden and nature all over the year: the fresh spring air filled with a morning concert of birds, crickets and summer ambiences, echoing neighbourhood chatter, gardening sounds, dogs barking, roosters crowing, jets and propeller planes passing overhead, as well as the profound silence and eerie presence of nocturnal animals in the depths of the night; the awakening of nature and residents in the early morning hours, and much more.
‘Residential Forest Complete’ combines all four libraries of long-term recordings from a German allotment environment into one. This remote area, surrounded by forest, features cottages, ponds, and an abundance of natural sounds. The library provides a rich blend of suburban, residential, and forest ambiences.
‘Residential Forest Complete’ includes 155 unique ambiences recorded in Germany during summer (August 2021), spring (April 2022), winter (January 2023) and autumn (October 2024). From these 96 hours of recordings, I have carefully selected and edited the finest moments, creating a 19 GB soundscape that takes listeners on a journey from afternoon to evening, through the night, and into the morning and midday hours in this residential forest setting.
To capture the profound silence of the night, I used a matched pair of Rode NT1-A microphones with exceptionally low self-noise, paired with a Tascam HD-P1 recorder.
The total duration of the library is approximately 13 hours, with most ambiences ranging from 5 to 10 minutes in length. Some are longer, while a few are shorter.
‘Residential Forest Complete’ was recorded in AB stereophony at 48 kHz, 24-bit.
Garden and nature in Autumn. Sparse bird songs, busy gardeners, dogs barking with pleasant echoes, roosters calling, jets and propeller planes passing by, as well as moments of dead silence, hunters’ gunshots, and eerie rustling in the depths of the night; the awakening of nature and residents during the early morning hours, and much more.
‘Residential Forest IV’ is the fourth library in my series of long-term recordings in a German allotment environment. This area is a remote place surrounded by forest, featuring cottages, ponds, and abundant natural sounds. The library combines suburban, residential, and forest ambiences into a cohesive soundscape.
‘Residential Forest IV’ contains 34 unique ambiences recorded in Germany during Autumn, specifically on October 31, 2024, from 1 p.m. until 1 p.m. the following day. From these 23 hours of recordings, I selected and edited the best moments, compiling them into a 6 GB sonic journey through time — from afternoon to evening, through the night, and into the morning and midday hours of a residential forest area.
To capture the dead silence of the night, I used an extremely low-noise matched pair of Rode NT1-A microphones along with the Tascam HD-P1 recorder.
The total duration of the library is approximately 3.5 hours. Most of the ambiences range from 5 to 10 minutes in length, though some are longer, and a few are shorter.
‘Residential Forest IV’ was recorded in AB stereophony at 48 kHz, 24-bit resolution.
“Morning Atmosphere Seaside Village Loops” is a unique collection of sounds recorded on a warm morning in a seaside village. A while back we stayed at an AirBNB near Joshua Tree National Park. The hosts set up a bird feeder right outside the porch which inevitably drew what seemed to be the entirety of the region’s wildlife to our doorstep, including a bobcat and some coyotes. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any sound from the bobcat, and only mediocre recordings from the coyotes, but the Gambel’s Quails stole the spotlight and gave us a lot of interesting and goofy sounding bird calls to listen to. The atmosphere the birds created was so interesting to us that we spent countless hours listening, taking photos and recording them.

There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
