Sound Effects

  • Vibrations Bowed Materials 1 is a construction kit library composed of various plastic, metal and paper materials vibrated with a cello bow! These sounds are meant to be manipulated and mangled to oblivion for further creative purposes.  These sounds are highly flexible and can easily be pitch-shifted -48 semitones or more.  They remain remarkably useful and clean giving each sound multiple “dimensions”.

I’ve found particularly strong potential in using these for creature sound design. One of the metal props recorded was also used to produce my Electric Arcs and Energy designed sound library. The array of how they could be used or transformed is quite possibly endless!

Great care was taken during the recording and editing process to ensure maximum flexibility of these sounds. The recording was done at 24 Bit / 192 kHz using the Sennheiser MKH 8050 mic which captures frequencies up to 50kHz. Any processing or editing was then performed at 192kHz.

    Library includes:
    • Includes Forge/Reaktor Sample Maps

    • 7 Different Bowed Metal Prop Recordings

    • 6 Different Bowed Paper Prop Recordings

    • 7 Different Bowed Plastic Prop Recordings

    • 1000 sounds total

Bonus – Forge Sound Design Tool Sample Map

If you own the Forge Sound Design Toolkit this library also comes with a specially curated sample map.  The sample map can be loaded into the sampler for randomization and the creation of more complex sounds.

  • These effects were recorded in a Victorian Town House in London, England. The house has been pretty much preserved from the day when its first owner died, with the original furniture, decorations and facilities.

Now a museum, I was granted access for a couple of hours one morning and I went from the basement to the top floor, recording the various doorbells and servants bells along with some of the old and heavy wooden doors. The bells are connected to various parts of the house by wires that run under the floorboards and are operated by a bell pull or handle in the rooms and at the front and rear doors of the house.

There are eight different bells, five in the basement and three in the attic rooms, all recorded at different lengths and intensities, a dinner gong and six doors, with openings and closings of different intensities. There are 111 effects in all, recorded at 96/24 Later that year, I stayed in an old tenement house in Edinburgh, Scotland, where almost every door creaked wonderfully.

These effects were recorded at 48/24 and are included as a bonus to the main collection. There’s also a couple of big metal door slams thrown in for good measure.

  • Vintage Telephones SFX library contains 244 sounds extracted from 10 vintage, rotary dial devices manufactured between the 1880s and 1980s. In this library, you’ll find three common ringing patterns (used in the USA, Australia, and Europe) for each telephone type, handset pickups/set downs, number dials 1-0, hook toggles, as well as single ringings with natural long ring decays to design your own ring timings according to your project needs.

As an addition to the standard telephone sounds, we have captured some experimental ones, that were generated by feeding the devices with random low frequencies, producing some really strange mechanical rattles, buzzes, glitches, and unusual bell rings.

THE FOLLOWING 10 TELEPHONES WERE RECORDED

    • 3 Box Phone [1882]
    • Antique Wooden Phone [1930]

A bonus collection of sounds in stereo from my extensive archive, with a ride on a San Francisco cable car, more vintage trams and a series of recordings of a Trolley Bus, an electrically powered bus running form overhead cables, but so quiet in operation, it was known as ‘the silent killer’ as pedestrians tended not to be aware when it was approaching.

  • Vinyl Record Noise is the first sound library from Oddball Audio. The library features eleven 10” blank records recorded from start to finish at 45rpm. The records were cut and pressed by Lathecuts in Arizona using a myriad of techniques to get the most surface noise, pops, crackles, and hiss for your sound design pleasure. The library is perfect for use in any project that may need vinyl records to give it that vintage feel! Additionally these samples are great to use in granular processing, music, or to add subtle layers to a burning fire.
