UK Canals, Parks and Forests contains a varied assortment of exterior sounds captured during field recording sessions by our team of Audio Craftsmen. The sound effects in this library will make an excellent compliment to your collection and are perfect for use in films, documentaries, commercials, and video games. They work well for projects based in the UK, but are equally at home in international projects.
The team travelled through picturesque locations around Greater Manchester – the heart of industrial Britain, capturing some of the world’s most beautiful canals and their essence in a set of ambience recordings. We also visited some wonderful parks and forests to record some of the people and the wildlife. We recorded forest paths, various birds, crows, children playing, rivers and geese all in real-world locations to give you the most authentic & grounded representation of the UK.
The included ambiences have been carefully edited to the same running length so that you can seamlessly drop them into your project timeline and are provided dry in 24Bit 96kHz allowing for further sonic manipulation if required. All files are tagged with extensive metadata to allow you to search for and select the desired sound with ease.
Some of the included sounds are: daytime canal with running water, geese with people passing by, under a foot bridge, ducks quacking in a canal, daytime forest birds, crows, people boxing in a park and many, many more.

The team has gone out of their way to bring you a range of different sounds, including tram squeaks, recordings of people passing by, crowds, street sweepers, skylines, construction and much, much more. We recorded a selection of ambiences at different times of day, covering many different central city locations to give you the most authentic & grounded representation of the UK city life to use in your projects.
The files included in this library have been meticulously edited so that you can drop them into your project timeline instantly and are provided dry in 24Bit 96kHz allowing for further sonic manipulation if required. All files are tagged with extensive metadata and are UCS compliant to allow you to search for and select the desired sound with ease.

Fully over 6 tons of metal was pummelled during the making of this sound library. Prepare for some serious metal impact recordings with this massive SFX collection that will be the go-to for game sound design, trailers, and film. Recorded over several months with precision recording techniques and discerning ears, this hard-hitting, vast library will serve any serious sound designer well for years to come.
Capturing Intense Metal Impacts
After recording a few dozen metal impact sounds with a standard close-mic recording setup, we were just not getting the next-level quality we wanted for this library. The recordings had an overbearing proximity feel and the sharpness of the transients was fatiguing our ears. With time, experimentation and a lot of listening we found a formula which changed the game completely. We want to share some of our findings with you!
Microphone Setup Positioning 1
Using a stereo pair of Sennheiser mkh 8040s feeding into a Mix Pre 6, the first step was to change up the mic positions into some balanced but unusually placed, more distanced configurations. For the sound pressure levels (SPL) that the impacts were throwing out, mid-distance recording positions were providing a broader frequency, more balanced overall feel. It might be obvious, but taking the time to position the mics and find where the nodes of sound waves are most interesting is key. At this point in our setup, the captures of the old metal cabinet we were pounding already started producing some very interesting results.
Microphone Setup Positioning 2
Getting within striking distance of the quality target, we still found that the recordings were not celebrating that resonant bass personality that is particular to metal objects and surfaces. To address this, we brought in a LOM Geophon contact mic which we do recommend to pick up low end frequencies beautifully. Positioning the Geophon at different nodal points on the metal surface – which was entirely different for each surface used – we started getting some well balanced low end into the recordings. The captures were really starting to get to where they needed to be; the bass was there, the frequency range was there, and above all, the complex personality of the metal impacts was really pouring through the headsets. Almost there, some truly fantastic audio captures.
Microphone Setup Positioning 3
The final touch was added to the recording setup when a fourth microphone, a shotgun Rode NTG2, was added to the mix. The shotgun mic was pointed directly at the source of the impact with mid-low input gain to bring in a present but balanced transient into the impact recordings. Absolute magic – the quality target was achieved and even surpassed. For recordings like these we can definitely recommend multiple microphone positions, and a high quality contact mic is essential. For each object and surface used in this Metal Impacts SFX Library, either one of the recording formula described above was used to capture the best sounding metal impacts, shakes, resonances, rattles and rings you will ever own.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
