Sound Effects

  • Two Typewriters. Protectograph. Adding Machine. Sewing Machine. Vintage Cigarette Machine.

The sound enthusiast in you will love to know that we scoured around the city/internet to collect a bunch of antique mechanistic objects for this sound collection. We even scored an old classic adding machine and a working antique pedal sewing machine! The gears and mechanisms in this odd assortment of old machines is from a beautiful and rich bygone era of manual movement, of strange and fascinating ideas from inventors creating moving parts that are simply unproducible in modern day gadgets.

Your ears spring to life as you listen through, one by one through these highly detailed and engrossing audio recordings that capture brilliantly the foreground and midground layers of the small moving parts. Perfect for older weapon Foley, for steam-punk machines, period piece machines, industrial era machinery, and on and on. A small vintage gear crank, that special metallic rich clickety-clack of a dusty old mechanism, the ribbon typewriter scrolling…

To get the most out of this collection of old mechanisms, we used a multipositional close mic-ing approach for these in order to get all those tiny moving details. Of course, they required that they be captured in our smallest studio used for precisely these low-noise environment sort of recordings – key in bringing the detailed three dimentional quality of these mechanisms to life.

As sound designers, we always need new, better, varied material. We want to feel excited by and connected to the sounds we use – enjoy and make it yours!

  • Skillfully performed using glasses as instruments, Sonomar Collection: Crystal Sing features 46 clean, high quality recordings of ringing vibrations perfectly suited for your harmonic tonal needs. This unique collection contains sonorous ringing tones at various pitches as well as sharp squeaks and rubs. Use the raw recordings to add hypnotic resonant layers to your projects, or alter them to experience the depth of Crystal Sing’s harmonic range.

To capture these sounds, sound designer and recordist Martin Pinsonnault (Big Little Lies, Dallas Buyers Club) and the Sonomar team used six different types of glasses including Ricard, cognac and champagne flute glasses. The tonal vibrations created by rubbing a wet finger along the rim of the glass were recorded in 192kHz with MKH-8040 microphones in ORTF setup. Each glass produced its own pitch and tone dependent on its size, shape, and the amount of water added. The rich high frequency response and minimal noise make these clean harmonic tones ideal for pitching and processing.

Each sound file is embedded with comprehensive metadata to help you find the exact sound effect you need with fast, pinpoint search. Enable creativity with detailed descriptions of each recording and their specific sonic qualities. Advanced metadata fields include translated French descriptions and additional info to ensure compatibility across any database search platform such as Soundminer, BaseHead, Netmix, Workspace (Pro Tools), Find Tool (Media Composer), Media Bay (Nuendo), Reaper, Adobe Premiere, and beyond.

Sonomar Collection: Crystal Sing is also included in Pro Sound Effects’ CORE: Standard.

  • Recorded by renowned innovators of film sound design Ann Kroeber and Alan Splet, the Stallion library features an incredible variety of charismatic horse sound effects including movements and vocalizations.

Intensify your projects with rumbling racing gallops, thumping canters, steady trots, and heavy rhythmic breathing. Bring creatures to life with the emotive whinny and neigh sounds of mustang stallions plus strong snorts, charming grunts, light nickers, and guttural exhales.

Many of these horse sounds were recorded for major feature films including The Black Stallion, The Horse Whisperer, and Hidalgo. Splet’s work on The Black Stallion won him a Special Achievement Academy Award® for Sound Editing. This recognition was largely due to the quality and depth of the source recordings he and Kroeber created.

Using a unique custom microphone rig (one mic fastened under the belly, another placed in front of the nose), the galloping sound effects in this library achieve an extraordinary dramatic quality with the horse’s powerful footsteps captured in harmony with its breathing.

Get an array of horse footsteps at your fingertips – moving at every gait and on various surfaces from gravelly dirt to shallow water, grass, sand, cobblestone and more. The Stallion library also includes miscellaneous sounds like chewing, saddle creaks, stretching leather, and scraping carriage wheels.

Following the libraries Cinematic Winds and Industrial Sounds with Soul, Stallion is the third exclusive release by Pro Sound Effects curated from Sound Mountain: Kroeber and Splet’s venerable private recording collection created over decades of film sound work with celebrated directors like David Lynch, Carroll Ballard, and Peter Weir. Kroeber has since worked on or supplied sounds for film, TV, and games – including 6 movies that won an Academy Award® in sound, and 7 additional nominations.

    Key Features:

    • 89 sound effects (1.1GB)
    • 24-bit/48kHz broadcast .wav files
    • Descriptive embedded metadata
    • 100% Royalty-Free
