Normal, everyday door sounds? Yes – and lots (and lots) of them!
A door opening or closing in a film/tv show/video game can absolutely take you out of the experience if done incorrectly.
At the end of working on Uncharted 4, the last sound I created was a door opening and closing. It was just a normal household door. I couldn't find any good door opening and closing sounds (and creaks…don't get me started). I also didn't have time to go out and record my own source. I was extremely frustrated.
There are a LOT of different types of doors in this world. Most sound libraries try to record ALL varieties of doors. The problem is that you might have a lot of different and unique doors, but only a couple of NORMAL house doors. Or, they just have a couple of NORMAL industrial doors. A sound designer's worst nightmare is lack of variety and choice.
With that in mind, I went on a personal journey to record all the normal doors I could find. I recorded door openings, closings, squeaks and creaks. That's it! I wanted the largest variety of normal house and industrial door openings/closings/creaks/squeaks on the market. For my next projects, I didn't want a door sound getting me frustrated!

This library was made for the small stuff. I have always had a hard time finding small fire sounds. I work mostly in games, and trying to find a small fireplace sound, or torches on the wall in a castle, or perhaps a candle or oil lamp sound, are impossible to find in commercial libraries! I've always been unhappy with what I had to make for those elements. So, I went to work getting small and delicate fire sounds.
It took multiple field recording trips using a variety of different materials to find the best small fire sounds. Finally, after a lot of hard work (and smoke to the lungs), here is the Small Fire SFX Library!
• In Pacific Northwest: Storm Waves, get an expansive collection of storm waves from Rialto Beach, a driftwood filled shoreline of Olympic National Park. Hear massive 25 ft swells breaking and sea foam froth sloshing on rounded pebbles. Hear violent slurping as water is sucked out after each massive wave. Hear wave resonance tuned to perfection by driftwood logs a millennium old. Hear distant storm buoys droning their ominous warning and bats circling with ultrasonic clicks. Hear a coastline gradually eroded by Pacific waves. A place where massive spruce stumps are still rooted in the beach, desperately holding to the earth as the soil is stripped from their roots. Press a contact mic to one of those stumps and hear the heartbeat of the ocean. The vibrations from crashing waves move through rocks and roots to create stunning resonances in the wood!
