City Life Sound Effects NYC Protest | 2019-2022 Play Track 51+ sounds included, 263 mins total $75

There’s a lot of material here – recorded and organized with a sound editor’s sensibility.

The recordings started out by chance – I’d end up in protest situations, and happened to have a recorder with me. This year I was a little more proactive, especially for the rally in Washington Square Park after the Supreme Court overruled Roe v. Wade.

Also in this collection: A Downtown Brooklyn BLM march, A 2019 Foley Square rally in response to border camps/family separation, A UFT protest at City Hall, and a couple different mics on the jubilant reaction to Biden’s presidential win on the corner of Atlantic and Court in Brooklyn. There’s not much underpinning music or other legally difficult material, but there is some. I’ve chosen to leave it in, for the most part, as this is also a historical record.

Quite a few takes are very long, and encompass changing circumstances. I’ve opted to use WAV markers, which I’m also providing as “Notes” metadata – making phrases, cheers, and other things I’ve noted searchable and findable!

Everything is UCS complaint.

*Most material was recorded on a Sony PCM-100, and originated 96k/24bit; Some material was recorded with the Sennheiser Ambeo Headset, and was upsampled to 96k/24bit from 48k/24bit

Experience the sound of 1979 Japanese oldtimer! Toyota Corolla E30 with inline carbureted 4 cylinder engine. This old school car was recorded with multi mic setup. Library contains different styles of driving (bad idle, failed engine starts, regular city driving, spirited driving, accelerations + RPMS and ramps for game audio) recorded onboard with different perspectives (intake, 2 x engine, 3 exhaust microphones) + interior stereo in sync with other mics. Last but not least, there are files containing exterior passes and interior “foley” like sounds. To record sounds of failed starts we removed fuel hose. There are also recordings of rough idle, which you can hear in the preview.

Polarity delivers more than 950 sounds of electricity, science and technology – captured in several locations around the world, from electricity museums to science labs. About 50% of the library is all about electricity, with various types of Jacob’s Ladders, Tesla Coils, Ruhmkorff lamp and all sorts of impactful bursts of energy.

Then we go through welders, plasma spheres, 3D printers, starting to cover a more broad technology theme – like old phones, telegraphs, dynamo wheels, rotary dials, whirling watchers, alarm, lab centrifuges, something scientists call a roller and a rocker, servo sounds, neon lights, a wimshurst machine and sparklers.

Many sounds in this section were captured from vintage equipment, from a 1928’s tram to old telephone switchboards, high voltage levers and control surfaces.

All content was recorded at 192KHz with a Sanken CO100K, a couple of Sennheiser 8040 and a Neumann 81i, translating into final assets that have plenty of ultrasonic content, ready for the most extreme manipulation.

Bonus: Two extra libraries included for free: This library also includes two additional releases from Mattia Cellotto - for free: Crunch Mode delivers 230 crunchy sounds made with a variety of vegetables, fresh bread, pizza crust and a selection of frozen goods. This flame spitting car runs without catalytic converter, stock air intake was replaced with Racing Beat Revi system and flames are thrown out of Invidia Q300 exhaust. It was recorded onboard with set of microphones under the hood (intake and two engine perspectives), on the back of the car (three exhaust perspectives) + stereo setup on the front seats in sync with engine / exhaust. Various styles of driving were covered, from regular driving through high speed spirited driving, aggressive accelerations up to RPM ramps and slow and steady increase for looping in game audio. Engine start, idle, stepping on the gas repeatedly and burnouts are also included. Exterior passes were recorded in mono and stereo, slow by sounds, fast ones, stopping, and differenty parking maneuvers. This library also features a lot of “foley” kind of recordings, so everything from door sounds to interior effects like handbrake, seatbelts, different locks, turn signals and so on.

Quiet Hotels At Night Vol 2:

“Quiet Hotels At Night Vol. 2” is the second part of our most popular library “Quiet Hotels At Night”. Comprised of the best pieces of several years of recordings. Imagine you are in a game or a security guard who is doing his regular tour. You find yourself in different corridors, rooms, and stairwells, even in the kitchen of a restaurant late at night. Through the recordings, you can experience a wide variety of settings – from riding a hotel elevator to looking around the lobby. The idea of the library is to include a rich variety of room tones and quiet atmospheres very early in the morning, late in the evening, or at night. The atmospheres in hotels of different sizes and stages of construction are quite distinctive because of their different reverberation, density of walls, doors, etc. Most of the library is focused around silence. You can hear photo-cell lighting at times, distant faint voices at others, or just sporadic sounds coming from places such as doors or footsteps from an upper floor. The stairwells are also very interesting as you can hear the sound of moving elevators stopping on another floor or the sound of pure electricity. This library sequel also includes atmospheres from the interior of moving elevators. You will hear the sound of doors closing, traveling, and doors opening. Room tones from a handful number of bathrooms are included as well. This library has been recorded in Eastern Europe and more specifically in Bulgaria which makes the atmospheres even more diverse and intriguing.

Quiet School Ambiences:

“Quiet School Ambiences” is a library recorded in several schools in Bulgaria (Eastern Europe) during summer vacation. They are old and have a characteristic sound with creaking doors and interesting spaces, corridors, rooms, toilets, a basement and even an attic inhabited by many pigeons. Some of the tracks were recorded in a school located in a small town and there is almost no noise from heavy traffic, only a few birds. Another part of the atmospheres were recorded in a big city very close to a main boulevard and you will hear heavy traffic. In some of the tracks, there is light human activity from teachers on duty or security, footsteps, distant voices, etc.

The library includes several doors with a specific sound recorded from a classroom and from a corridor because the reverberation is different. You will also hear lights turning on and off. Much of the library was recorded with two stereo setups at the same time, usually in different directions (corridors and bathrooms) or different configurations (doors). There are also bonus tracks similar to the main files.

The lockdown was such a restrictive and devastating measure for all the societies we live in. At the same time though, it created a unique opportunity in history from a soundscape point of view.

If earlier our ears used to meet constant sound streams, compact drones due to omnipresent traffic, now they can perceive a microcosm of sounds, small details, sound objects that bounce in the empty cities, finally free. Voices and murmuring of the few people around are all muffled by the use of face masks.
Sound designers will be able to make full use of this microcosm to paint their backgrounds with lively environments, full of small sounds, buzzes, scattered voices, thuds, bells, and so on, all reverberated in empty open spaces.
With human beings locked up, sounds got unlocked!
