  • Remington Rand is an early American typewriter and adding machine manufacturer formed in 1927. The last Remington Rand branded business machine rolled off the line in 1958. The adding machine that we acquired was an electric version in good working condition. Remington Rand also manufactured things like shavers, pistols and calculators.

Our adding machine has a big electronic mechanism for the summing function and nice heavy clacks for the regular keys. It also had some very sticky metal plates that would occasionally get stuck and then pop loose with a big resonant ringing sound. This specific defect made an incredibly interesting sound that is very unique to this specific machine’s wear and tear.

As with the Burroughs Protectograph we miked it with three different mono perspectives to produce three very different sounds on each move. We used Schoeps CMC6/MK4 mics on the front and back and an AT4050 for the wide perspective in mono. The close perspectives are great for big thick clicks and mechanisms, and the wide is excellent for use in one offs for bgfx tracks.

Key features for Remington Rand Adding Machine

    • 3 mic perspectives of each performance
    • 9 unique articulation groups

  • Have you heard about fractals, if so then you probably know that they can be used as art; to an almost-infinite detail creating mind boggling patterns. Luckily, it so happens that one of our core team sound-designers is also a well known fractal artist.

With the help of “photo-synthesis” and “spectral-manipulations”, we extracted the unique impulse responses straight out of some of the most mathematical pieces of art we have ever seen. These visually insane patterns resulted in some truly unique sonic experiences, which we have been unable to find anywhere else. More importantly, now you can add an extra layer of complexity and dimension to your sound with the easy-to-use impulse responses.

These are not the typical reverb tones that can be found or created, in most already-existing convolution reverb plugins.

Think about these Mathematical Impulse Responses, as unique effects and textures, a sound designer’s’ paradise. Make your math-rock mathematically richer than ever before, or give your EDM a new harmonically otherworldly twist, go where you want to go without the fear of being held back by the tools you use.

    Details:

    • 64 impulse response samples
    • 48khz / 24bit wav files
    • Compatible with any convolution-reverb software
    • WAV + ReFill version (for Propellerhead Reason 8.3+ with 64 Combinator & RV7000mk2 patches)

  • Looking for electric car sounds? This library delivers 211 files / 162 minutes of stereo recordings of the BMW i3 electric vehicle.

The BMW i3 is a B-class, high-roof hatchback manufactured and marketed by BMW with an electric powertrain using rear wheel drive via a single-speed transmission. Its underfloor Li-ion battery pack is offered in two capacities as well as with an optional range-extending gasoline engine. The i3 was BMW’s first mass-produced zero emissions vehicle and was launched as part of BMW’s electric vehicle sub-brand, BMW i.

As of December 2016, the i3 ranked as the world’s third best selling all-electric car in history with more than 65,000 units sold since its inception.

This very quiet car has been recorded using onboard DPA-4060 microphones, to capture the engine and tyre sounds. The different surfaces are gravel, asphalt and rumble strips on the highway. The interior sounds have been recorded using the Zoom H5 XY microphone. There are also contact mic recordings of the wheel housing using Schaller mics.

Passby sounds have been recorded using Line Audio CM3’s in an XY setup as well as the Zoom H5 XY microphone. There are passes on dry and wet asphalt as well as gravel at different speeds.

Finally the engine has been recorded using the Elektrosluch electromagnetic microphone, resulting in 33 minutes of electromagnetic madness in 96 kHz.

I sincerely hope you will find this sound archive useful!

    Best,

    Morten
