Sound Effects

  • Ambient recordings from various industrial sites, including the port of Aarhus with its bulk cargo and container terminals. Most of the sounds are quite generic though, and could be used in many different contexts. Some recordings are teeming with activity, while others feature deserted, yet humming and droning, industrial landscapes. Lots of HVAC with fans and pumps. Containers are moved, gravel is unloaded, engines are running. Very little wind, and hardly any legible speech. A few of the sounds are cut as seamless loops.

Most of the sounds were originally recorded with a Sennheiser MKH60/30 M/S setup. A few sounds appear in both mono and stereo versions, where the stereo version are X/Y derived from the M/S source files and the mono versions are simply the Mid channel. I did this, because most people seem to prefer X/Y files for post-work, rather than M/S – but a down-mix of X/Y to mono would be inferior to using the original Mid-mic signal. 4 of the sounds were recorded with a quasi binaural setup . All sounds were captured in Aarhus, Denmark.

  • HARMONICS is a new designed sound collection that explores the inner beauty of resonating metals to create an extensive set of inspiring sonic material for sound design and film scoring – proudly presented by SampleTraxx.

Metal happens to have the right combination of speed of sound and decay. Different metal shapes produce a broad spectrum of soundscapes and tones.

HARMONICS investigates this hidden magic by designing and layering these unique timbres.
The result is an extensive set of designed evolving textures and designed metal elements which are great to create sound cues in minutes, metal hits, passby-reverses and evolving drones.

The nature of this soundpack doesn’t call for compressor or maximizer. Close attention has been paid to preserve the original dynamic excursion of each sound and fully enjoy its natural vibration and evolution.
Having a wide dynamic range guarantees more freedom in layering and arranging different elements to create endless variations.

The sonic material contained in the pack is all presented in a designed fashion and different levels of design are provided: from simple elements to evolving multilayered soundscapes and textures, all based on metallic sources. No external sounds apart from metals have been added to the mix.

    Features:
86 Designed Textures and Elements (dur. up to 1’10″)
37 Hits (Hi and Low Designed Hits)
    10 Drones
    26 Pass-by Reverse
    9 Tibetan Bowl (Raw Recordings)

  • Let’s step into the wonderful world of classic hardware reverbs. The Lexicon legends; the 960, the 480L, the PCM90 and so forth used in thousands of tracks across tens of thousands of albums, and a number of the world’s’ greatest hits. Everyone knows what’s special about them, and how good they sound. We just love the natural beauty of the “Lexicon 960”, “Lexicon 480L” and “Lexicon PCM90”.

However, instead of giving you our sampled Impulse Responses from those marvelous pieces of audio engineering, we decided to step up the game and combine them into one new device. All three of them were combined into one product, thanks to the use of FFT algorithms and complex audio processing aimed for precision and sound quality.

The final result is just astonishing, we named it “Lexi”; a new hybrid with a natural and richer sound that keeps the warm tonal character of the classics. Our team also couldn’t resist to the temptation to push our audio-processing scripts to the limits, so you not only get the great sounding regulars, but also a few of the modern (both brighter and way deeper) Impulse tones that those original devices couldn’t produce. Now it’s your turn to decide which way you use them. Will it be the remaster of a classic rock song or the new EDM club hit? The decision is truly yours.

    Details:

    • 64 impulse response samples
    • 48khz / 24bit wav files
    • Compatible with any convolution-reverb software
    • WAV + ReFill version (for Propellerhead Reason 8.3+ with 64 Combinator & RV7000mk2 patches)

  • The ‘Lifts and Elevators’ library contains a collection of sounds sourced from 19 different elevators. Each model bringing their own unique sonic qualities and character. From slick and smooth modern elevators to weathered old freight and goods lifts, these high-quality recordings have been carefully captured in:

    • Hotels
    • Offices
    • Studios
    • Flats/Apartments
    • Schools/Universities
    • Warehouses/Industrial Units

Each elevator has been recorded in motion, opening and closing its doors (manually and mechanically), producing metallic rattles, creaks, groans and more. Additionally, Button pressing, alarm bells, buzzers and stationary room tones, have been captured in crystal clear detail.

All sounds have been recorded in high-quality 24 bit, 96 kHz using Sound Devices recorders and Sennheiser MKH8040, MKH416 and MKH30 microphones. Each file has been also tagged with detailed Soundminer metadata to speed up workflow and increase organisation.

The majority of recordings contain both a stereo MS decoded and ORTF version. The midside has a narrower stereo image whilst the ORTF provides a wider version.

I recorded this library with 2x dpa 4060s, 2x ME2, an sm57, sennheiser 416 and a pair of cm3s recorded in an xy pattern. I set up the cm3s on a mic stand, and followed the action with the 416, with 5 onboard microphones capturing sounds on the bike as well.

In the 179 files, there are 8 syncable takes of pass by's at different rpms with the onboards and 2 different exterior perspectives. Everything has been labeled in Soundly with metadata.

You will find what you need to cover any small 2 stroke engine motorcycle in here. With purchase, I offer you to email me at peterseeba@gmail.com and I will send you the protools session that has the sync'd files and original audio if you would like even more coverage of individual microphones (if that is something you are into). Speeds and actions:

Three speeds. Departures from slow, medium to fast getaways. Arrivals from slow stops with gently brakes to smooth departures.

    Five perspectives:
    1. Onboard Front: captures the whirring tire and surface sound.

All 3 onboard mics are edited in sync with one another to make layering easy.
All Passbys, Arrivals and Departures move from Left to Right.

    Metadata & Markers:
Because we know how important metadata is for your sound libraries we have created a consistent and intuitive description method. This allows you to find the sound you need easily, whether you work in a database like Soundminer/Basehead/PT Workspace work, or a Exporer/Finder window.

However, we are aware that some people have different needs for different purposes, so we’ve created a Metadata Reference Guide that explains the structure. And because we’ve automated the metadata proces, you can be confident that a ‘find & replace’ command will always replace all instances.

  • Rodeos and horse ranches aren't what they used to be.

These days, rodeos are polluted with big PAs pumping rock and pop music through the speakers while the cowboys ride the bulls and buck the broncs. People watch through cell phones and keep a safe distance from the action. Horse ranches are overrun with the sounds of 4 wheelers and dirt bikes on the tracks nearby.

The recordings we have come from before that time.

Years ago we rolled out to the rodeo with full access, a portable DAT machine, and a determination to catch every angle we could take a mic to. The house band played from a balcony unamplified while the cowboys rode the bulls and the crowd cheered. The children rode sheep in a sport called “mutton busting” and the women mounted stagecoaches and raced around the arena at breakneck speed.

…and when the show was over the crowd stood up to leave, but the cowboys were still competing – so they kept riding.

The steer wrestling contest happened in an almost empty arena. We were there — up close, capturing every gate release, the sounds of the cow struggling to stay on his feet, and the single trainer cheering the cowboys on. The dirt and the grit and the steel clacking around were all there, exposed and clean and in their native environment.

After the rodeo we went to a local horse ranch and kept on rolling. We got gallops and canters, grunts and snorts. We handled the tack, shook the bridles, and swung the gates. We recorded in the barn and out on the fields.

These recordings come from a time before 24 bit 96kHz portable rigs existed, but they have a quality and fidelity that has survived the ages. Take a listen and remember the time when these things sounded like they should sound.

  • The Burroughs Protectograph that we acquired was manufactured around the turn of the 20th century and had a single unique function – to stamp and emboss checks for banks. The Burroughs corporation has been around since 1886, and was an early force in the adding machine, check stamper and typewriter industries. This Protectograph version had an electric mechanism that would move large printheads down through a ribbon and would stamp a check hard and repeatedly for as long as the print key was held down. Our machine was acquired in perfect working condition.

Its keys have a short through but a satisfying clack, and the punch mechanism is a huge whir stamp sound than can cycle if the punch button is held down. We rolled with the case both on and off, which revealed very different sounds from the main electric mechanisms.

We ran the whole session with three perspectives miked up – front by the keys, in the back by the punch and a wide perspective perfect for bgfx placement. The front and back mics were Schoeps CMC6.MK4 and the wide mic was an AT 4050 in omni about 5 feet away. Listen to the straight examples give a clear accounting of the type of sounds we got from this machine, and the bent examples show what can really be done with those sounds and the Kontakt instrument.

    Key features for Burroughs Protectograph

    • 3 mic perspectives of each performance
    • 10 unique articulation groups
    • 10 + performances per articulation

  • Formats & Plugins Forest Reverb – Outdoor Impulse Responses Play Track 134 sounds included, 6:41 mins total $25

Get a collection of 134 impulse responses – recorded in the forest.

What if, instead of going to the forest to record the sound, we can find a way to bring the characteristics of the forest to us? Say, for example, we have recorded a sound in the studio like the sound of chopping wood or foley footsteps, but we want them to sound like they are in the forest?

There is a way to emulate this. To make our source sound like it is, in fact, in a forest. The answer is to use the impulse response of the forest and one of the convolution reverb plugins for your DAW.

An impulse response of the forest (or “forest IR”), is the sum of reflections from trees, foliage and the ground by very short signal at high volume. For this sound library, I recorded different impulses in a stereo at different locations of the forest with perfect conditions. Also, the library includes alternate versions of these impulses for use in the processing of the sounds that are far away from the listener.

Note: Requires a convolution reverb plugin
    – here are some free options:

For using these impulse responses, you need a convolution reverb plugin (not included). The library can be used with the built-in convolution plugins in many DAWs like ProTools, FL Studio amd Sony Vegas, and there are other commercial options on the market, but costs can be high. For starters, you can use a free convolution reverb from the following

    LiquidSonics’ Reverberate LE (Win)
    SIR by Christian Knufinke (Win)

A wide choice of IR’s will allow you to choose the most appropriate nuanced impulse response for your material. As you gain more experience with this forest IR, you will find that you can quickly adjust the ratio and volume level for wet and dry channels and effectively use other options of convolution reverb. This powerful forest reverb emulation will be incredibly effective for your sounds.

    • These desert ambiences are extremely quiet, so I have included descriptive markers to signal interesting events in an otherwise featureless waveform. These markers can be read in programs such as RX, Reaper, and Soundminer. The markers are also included as .txt files in the sound files folder.

  • A library designed for fancy pants computer read-outs and jazzy interface buttons. All files are flawlessly loop-able so no matter how long that data needs to keep on flowing, you're covered. Plenty of different styles from classical digital sounds, to lighter, funnier readouts and even dangerously aggressive ones. It pretty much covers most situations.

With its diesel V6 and open exhausts to get some extra horsepower, it can reach the place of fire quicker.
