This is a 4-channel recording of an old Toyota Land Cruiser driving on dirt roads. It was recorded by George Vlad and Daan Hendriks while attending the 2016 Sonic Mmabolela annual workshop in Limpopo Province, South Africa. 4 DPA 4060 mics were attached to the vehicle’s body to capture engine compartment, exhaust and wheel sounds.
The vehicle was used for game drives around the reserve and had no windshield, windows or roof as can be seen in the photos. It was powered by a 4 litre/155 hp Toyota 3F petrol engine that did an excellent job despite its age. It also sounded pretty wild for an untuned utility vehicle.
The recordings cover a couple of failed ignition attempts, a proper ignition with the car starting, some idling, constant driving, revving, some reversing and then the engine stopping. The 4 different perspectives cover the essential sources of sound and offer a lot of flexibility when designing vehicle sounds for any purpose.
'Land Rover Defender' by Flysound is a comprehensive sound catalogue for this best-of-British diesel beast. The suite of 290 recordings is a systematic compilation authored by a dedicated full service post-production team, deploying Neumann U87s, Sennheiser MKH416s, Sound Devices 788Ts, Aaton Cantar X-2s, and further top quality recording, editing, sound design, and mixing equipment.
The 4×4 and its professional driver have been tracked from a myriad of angles and distances, both external and onboard, from the moment the doors close and a seatbelt fastens, right down the gamut of revs, take-offs, turns, passes-by, skids, pedal slams, handbraking, gearshifting, and panel buttoning galore with all the corresponding actions as this hardy off-roader peels away fast, chugs along slow, or just cruises an everyday commute. In short: Everything you'll need, all the maneuvers manifested by this 2.4 litre diesel icon, here in this suite.
The symphonic grace of a Defender in motion is captured with orchestra-grade studio equipment and field kit, by professionals, for professionals, ready to be used as authentic sound, ready to be arranged into seamless edits and proper 5.1 post-production. The 96kHz/24bit synced and multi-channel recordings have comprehensive metadata tags giving full position, microphone, and action detail. This catalogue constitutes the canon of sound for the Land Rover Defender all-terrain vehicle. The suite is parked here, ready to give you the exact audio you need.
A lite and mixed version of this suite is also available, comprising 41 authentic stereo files, designed, mixed, and studio packaged on best-of-breed equipment for simpler tasks which would have a preference for a package of ready made stock sounds of the Defender.

Sometimes emotion comes when you feel together as one. This is happening in stadiums, arenas, demonstrations when people are as one voice. This collection gets you the power of the crowd. People will go through various feelings, sometimes silent or very noisy, you will be able to cover a lot of situations with it. Moreover ambisonic format-B 3D recordings are great to enhance those kind of situations.
Often majestic, big interior spaces are beautiful sets. We created this collection to help you bring some life into them. To take full advantage of those sets, there’s nothing quite like Ambisonic and its faithful sound reproduction of its acoustics in 3D.

This sound effects library of latches, locks, switches, clips, slides, clasps, gears, bolts, and ratchets is a mechanical sonic powerhouse, offering the functional and mechanical sounds of a plethora of quirky contraptions that latch or lock together in some manner or another. Embellish a simple hand tool or build utterly complex mechanizations.
Some source materials were discovered in old railway yards, others were random findings in an antique mall, while others still were dislodged components of even larger, more complex machines. Like little sonic building blocks, the sounds herein are primarily reduced to their smallest meaningful components, giving you the quick, accessible freedom to drop/move/stack them for fast production. As with many of our libraries, we focused on providing sets of similar sounds so that you can create sequences and randomized groups for an event on the fly without having to commit extra editing time.
We've also included 26 of our own designs to get your creative machine turning!
What’s so funny? This library is!
Featuring 380 files, including a large group of more than 200 people laughing, cheering, applauding and generally having a great time, as well as several smaller groups and individuals laughing.
Fantastic for comedy shows, sitcoms – and anywhere where you need to add the sound of people having some real fun:
Laundry Mangles is a library full of sounds from vintage machines that once where used in many public washhouses. In some locations they are in use even today.
Basically, the weight of a huge box filled with stones was used to press big pieces of linen, bed sheets or towels wound on rollers below. Early models were operated by hand which was very exhausting and soon the machines were equipped with electric motors and belt drives.
This library delivers sounds from 5 different models of various ages that are operated with a crank shaft or electrical belt drive. All machines have been extensively recorded so that any imaginable perspective and operational state is covered. This includes full runs with belt drive and crank shaft, protective grating handlings, idling motors and much more.
This library features recordings made from a Laurin Koster 32ft 4 cylinder engine Sailboat.
This library contains docked harbor ambiences while windy and calm, water movements, sail foley, engine ignition starts and cut offs, multiple different RPMs while taxiing out of the harbor, sailing, on-deck atmospheres from different perspectives and contact mic recordings of different unique sounds of the sailboat. Contains everything you need to construct a film, game or commercial from a sailboat’s perspective.
Need high-quality volcanic audio from a film featured by National Geographic? You can hear it pop and snap, and occasionally rocks forming, shearing, and breaking apart. Thankfully – I didn’t melt the recorder!
The LAX Aircraft library features descending aircraft flyovers at Los Angeles International Airport. One advantage of LAX is that it’s nestled in the city, making it easy to stand directly under very low flying airplanes to capture a great sound.
A range of aircraft was recorded for this release, including the Airbus A330, Boeing 737, 747, and Bombardier 800.
Two different microphone positions were used: One facing the oncoming aircraft, and the other pointing in the opposite direction to capture the flyover and further decent as the aircraft lands.
The Leaf Blower sound library features recordings of air blowing engine machine. 14 activities were recorded from 4 different perspectives (in sync), which gives 56 files in total.
Recorded activities: turning on/off the blower, idle, gas pressing, steady rpms, rpm loops, ramps, normal usage stationary, normal usage while walking.
Recorded perspectives: onboard engine (3 microphones), external: front wide stereo XY, mono, side wide stereo XY.
What is LEAKED NOISE? Well, in the case of this sound pack, it is the sound that is somewhat removed from the listener. It might be the people upstairs having a blazing argument (and later on when they have made up, getting amorous), the garage band next door rehearsing their songs, the kid in the basement practicing drums or the one down the school hall practising flute. In this pack, you will find lots of LEAKED NOISE that might be just right for your project, be it TV, film, radio, videogame or theatre.
Learning Space is the go-to collection for clean and constant school environment room tones and ambiences.
Learning Space has over 1 hour / 2.2 GB worth of material that covers a whole large air-conditioned modern school building and also a small air-conditionless old abandoned school building. The length of the room tones are around 3 minutes and all the room tones are calibrated to -30 LUFS.
The whole library was recorded with a custom designed very low self-noise (4.5 dB) ORTF rig that gives you only the noise of the room and minimal noise from the recording equipment itself.
The variety in the sounds of the room tones gives you a great palette to experiment with various sound design tools so you can create e.g. spaceship ambiences, drones and otherworldly textures.
You get the sounds in two formats: 96 kHz, 24 bit and in 44.1 KHz, 16 bit, for more convenient ways of utilizing the sounds in games and other media.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
