Diffuse City is the unique urban ambience sound effects library you didn’t know you were missing. It captures the urban environment in its many forms – all based around the idea of diffuse ambience.
The Diffuse City library is purpose-built for the times an environment needs to be felt, but not be distracting.
Every track in Diffuse City was recorded with some sort of real life “filter” in mind; be it distance, elevation, time of day, physical material – Anything to provide the feeling of city life with out the specificity of many urban ambience libraries. No distracting close car pass-bys or people talking; only great natural ambience beds.
Diffuse City was recorded in big cities, suburbs, small towns, and rural settings over a span of two years. It was largely recorded over very late nights, when very few people we’re around. Occasionally, however, a car would pass by… a gun would go off… While these were edited out of the recordings, they are included as “extras” in the library. Perfect for adding some flavor to a moment that’s authentic to the environment it was recorded in.
In addition to thorough metadata, each ambience in Diffuse City is embedded with markers highlighting unique moments that aren’t easily visible in a waveform. Software like Soundminer v4.5 and Reaper can display these markers, making it easy to identify distinct sonic moments in an otherwise nondescript waveform.

The Renault Kangoo 1.6 16V sound library features 227 96kHz/24 bit WAV files (including RAW files for design purposes), recorded with 2 Sound Devices 702, 2 Sennheiser MKH 8040 microphones, Rode NTG3, 2 DPA 4061 and Sony PCM-M10 recorder.
This library covers sounds of regular driving, slow and fast accelerating recorded under the hood and inside a drivers cabin at the same time, so the files are in sync and ready to edit in your DAW. In addition this library features exterior recordings, from slow passes through medium and fast ones, reverse sounds, doppler effects, braking and idle, driving away and more.
Everything was recorded from 3 perspectives with different equipment. Mono recordings followed the car all the time, and were recorded with NTG3. Stereo ones were recorded with Sony PCM-M10 and Sennheisers MKH 8040 in ORTF.
Those microphones were standing still, capturing the car passes from left to right. Last but not least, foley: This library covers different actions, like opening and closing doors recorded from the interior and exterior perspectives, opening and closing slide doors, hood, back doors and windows. Pulling and releasing the hand brake, AC fans, buttons and switches, emergency and turning lights, opening and closing glove compartment and more.
The total length of the files is 142 minutes (without RAW files). In addition to the cleaned and premixed files, you will receive Engine RAW recordings as a separate download link. Thanks to those files you can design the engine or interior sounds the way you like.
Inspired by the ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) community, this collection includes 43 mono/stereo pairs of whispers, scratches, taps, rubs, breathing, buzzing, and more. The general goal of ASMR is to induce a bodily response from the auditory stimuli, much like a shiver, chill, or euphoric wave. From an auditory perspective, this is usually approached by using delicate, intimate sounds in a repetitive manner; known as 'triggers'.
The files are all loopable, averaging ~2'20″ in length, so you can leave them on repeat for a continuous ASMR experience. This also allows a sound designer to drop them into any environment where they need an indiscernible loop. The mono+stereo pairing allows for creating the appropriate stereo spread (or eliminating it all together) that a particular event requires. For some of the more common triggers, we provided a few variations.
Definitely intending to be a unique addition to your sonic anthology, this library will provide you with hours of evocative ear candy.
Featuring sounds taken from lo-fi instrumental recordings, harsh noise experiments and granular synthesis explorations, Atmosfear is a gritty soundscape collection geared towards the horror genre. Dr. Daniels is the only dentist I’ve ever known and he was gracious enough to let me roam around his office after hours collecting these sounds.
The intent was to gather source material for hi-tech gadgetry so the library contains a nice selection of tools and equipment including drills, a mouth vacuum, an ultrasonic water sprayer, dental lathe, dental kiln, a creepy sounding dentist chair and a wicked cool CEREC machine (diamond tipped milling machine that cuts dental implants).
The handheld tools are “performed” so as to create movement, pass by’s and simulate power fluctuations.
Human Stampede was recorded across multiple marathon races and captures the sound of footsteps of large crowds of runners. The idea was to capture long takes in stereo with minimal or non-existent crowd chatter to get stereo recordings that are useful for scenes of riots, warfare or even a plain old fun run.
Useful Winds contains 17 decoded ms recordings of various types of wind, both interior and exterior. From a mild breeze through an Irish field to a storm gale atop of a Spanish hill, the library delivers a vast array of windy goodness. Recorded with Schoeps mk4/mk8 & SoundDevices MixPre-D.
Chain Ferry features the remarkable sounds of a 100 year old ferry with a specific drive system. The ferry pulls along a strong chain lying at the ground of the river to cross. This is achieved by a clever combination of 3 drive wheels that guide the chain and prevent it from dropping to the ground.
The Library contains several complete audio takes of the ferry in action – from departure to arrival. This encompasses engine start, engine idle, loading ramp noises and bangs plus a lot of chain rattling from various perspectives. The sounds are recorded aboard and from both sides of the river so that the entire scenery can be covered acoustically.
This sound effects library is a collection of field recordings of freight trains in the San Francisco Bay area with a route along San Jose, Richmond, Oakland, Emeryville, and San Francisco. All the recorded freight trains were old, rusty, and covered in graffiti. When in motion they come alive with very unique sounds such as metal on metal scrapes, heavy thuds, clunking, and screeching noises. All trains were recorded within 15-20 feet from the mic setup of Schoeps 2 CMC 6 U mic bodies, a Schoeps MK4 and MK8 mic capsules, and a Rycote windjammer fed into a Sound Devices 744T.
This sound library is entirely based on the Victor adding machine, made in the 1920s. This machine was purely mechanical and non-electric. In this sound library you'll get individual recordings of the machine's hand crank, printer, paper, and button/keys tracks as well as six complete recordings of the adding machine in full action. The library also contains five different mic positions with two different mic techniques used.
This sound library has a variety of sounds and activities that come from most household bathrooms. It includes sounds of showers, sinks filling and draining, medicine cabinet items, bottles of pills, brushing hair, spraying hairspray, clipping nails, toilets flushing, lotion, cloth towels, washing hands, etc. Each track is a 2-channel stereo recording from a Mid-side mic setup from two Schoeps CMC 5Us with MK8 and MK4 capsules fed into a Sound Devices 744T.

With A Sound Effect, Asbjoern has created a web site where our international community can browse, learn, and share the vast fruits of our labors. Together we are accelerating the very real potential power of sound design as a recognized art form.
A Sound Effect is an excellent resource for us to keep our animated films sounding unique and exciting.
A Sound Effect is a great asset to have discovered.
We found the site very easy to navigate, purchasing and downloads were effortless and the effects themselves are awesome! Asbjoern has done us all a great service.
We’ll definitely be back!
There are many great independent sound effect libraries available these days. The main problem with having so many, is keeping track of them!
A Sound Effect is a great hub, and is one of the first places I visit to look for sounds by category or genre. I started coming here to see if I could find libraries that I knew I had heard, but forgot WHERE I had heard them.
And in the process discovered libraries I never would have found otherwise. Great work! Keep it up!
We're always looking for new sounds to mangle, so when A Sound Effect had a holiday sale, I tried them out.
The purchase experience is really smooth and quick, and delivery is almost instant.
I'll definitely come back to them again in the future!
A Sound Effect is a wonderful resource for indie sound effects libraries. On top of that, it has some of the finest sound design, film and game audio interviews!
I often need very specific types of sounds so I've become a big supporter of independent recorders.
Until now I've always had to go to their individual websites. Now I can find them all in one place.
And, Asbjoern is great to work with!
A Sound Effect is a well curated boutique sound effects shop and a great place to find industry interviews and learning resources.
