In this recap, you can hear lots of weather sounds of heavy rain, snowy footsteps and slushy traffic to banjos on dry ice and thunder cracks recorded on tape during the ’80s!
You can also check out an 18th-century British mansion’s ambiences and props, industrial age steam engines, a vintage German light rail, Ambisonic ambiences from Madrid, a roaring Soviet fighter jet, a nice collection of household items, recordings of a Czech toboggan, an aggressive selection of destructive impacts and glitches, an extensive sci-fi library that goes above and beyond, and two packs of droid sounds and arcade lasers.
'British Stately Home' by SH Sound Design Ltd spotlights a late-18th-century neo-classical mansion. It is a collection of 256 files recorded at 24bit/96kHz with a mixture of mono, stereo, LCR and 5.0 files. It has sounds of doors, windows, fireplaces, clocks, drips, keys and various unusual period-specific props, often from multiple perspectives. It also includes impulse responses from the building's more colorfully reverberant rooms and some very still ambiences. This was a collaboration between two award-winning sound designers, Stefan Henrix (Chernobyl, Batman Begins) and Steve Fanagan (Room, Frank).
'Spirit Of Sound Effects: Thunder Volume 1' by Unity Gain Sound was recorded in 1988 to DAT with an ORTF pair of Schoeps MK-4s and features a lightning strike from less than 12 feet away! Some of this material was released through 'The Hollywood Edge Signature Series' back in 1993 and the rest was considered "unusable" due to the rain. Not so with Izotope RX 7 Advanced. It was painstakingly remastered and has been released at 96kHz with Soundminer metadata. Come hear the utter clarity and crispness of this thunder as it should be.
'Rain & Thunder' by Soundholder features 53 files covering different types of rain, from light showers to heavy falls. This library was recorded in different locations, like open spaces, forests and under the plastic or metal roofs, and it also has some experimental recordings like rain captured from inside a metal grill or bucket. There are also few thunder recordings that are mostly subtle and long. All together you'll get over 5 GBs of 96kHz pack and a total length of 162 minutes.
'Snow, Ice & Everything Dry Ice' by NoiseFloor FX consists of 380 sound effects ranging from footsteps to metal gliding through snow! There are a variety of surfaces like hard and soft snow, ice blocks, crushed and shaved ice, and dry ice, as well as impacts, jumps, metal Foley and more. You can also hear the sound of banjos, jingle bells and items like bouncing quarters and sledge hammers sizzling on dry ice! (The banjo sounds great, just check out the demo.)

'Vintage Tram' by Detunized gets you the sounds of a fully working light rail near Dresden. The 2-axle rail cars were built from 1957 until 1967. The recorded tram drives along an 8km track through a small German valley that is surrounded by reverberant rock faces. The library has recordings from the driver's seat and several positions in the wagon, both with and without passengers, plus sounds of the doors and doorbells and exterior recordings of squeaky approaches and pass-bys.
'Madrid Ambisonic City Life' by Foley Collection & Surround Sound LAB was recorded in Madrid last winter, capturing 40 beautiful tracks in Ambisonic format. These urban ambiences feature city traffic, pedestrians on the street, rooftop ambiences and more with almost no bird sounds. The library was decoded and mixed in Dolby ATMOS and includes an Ambix Ambisonic, 7.1.2 Atmos Bed, 5.1 and ST versions. This library is also included in the Surround Sound LAB Complete Bundle, which features over 25 sound libraries at a huge discount.
