In this mid-week recap, we have ambiences, cars, weapons, and a friendly android. You can hear the dark hums and disturbances of urban nights, peaceful early mornings on a farm, the bustling soundscapes of Athens and Crete, and rowdy fun in popular London pubs. You can also hear the roaring engines and passbys of German cars, distant designed explosions, a huge collection of magical powers, and a friendly little robot who just wants to get to know you. There is plenty to explore, so get a-listening!
'Athens & Crete' by C O L O S S A L captures these cities through the sounds of everyday life on the Mediterranean. You'll hear busy markets, heavy traffic, children playing, a religious sermon, and even a professional choir singing. There are also the non-human sounds of the coasts with sloshing rock pools, mountain goats, birds, cicadas, and heavy waves on the shore. If you're looking for sounds that come from the geographical birthplace of civilization, check this library out.
Once again, SoundMorph has created a library that sets the standard for weapon sound design with powerful, realistic - albeit mystical - effects. 'Elemental' features sound of earth, wind, fire, water, and ethereal effects with impacts, spells, loops, breaths, and everything else you'd expect in RPGs and fantastical films. With 80 minutes of effects, you'll hear icy crunches, whooshing fire, rocky debris, splashes, warbling, and more for a collection that will last you for projects to come. If you love their futuristic weapon libraries and need something supernatural, you won't find better!
The team at C O L O S S A L decided to take a break and head West after recording Greece for a pint at the 'London Pubs'. They recorded ambiences of local taverns where extroverts spent their nights watching football, participating in trivia night, chatting in the biergarten, getting a little loud and rowdy, and more. These hours of recordings are clean of copyrighted music and also include two perspectives from the binaural quad set up. Whether you need nightly chatter or the roar of drunken sports fans, you won't find a library more complete than this!
Soundholder recorded a good ol' mid-2000s 'Volkswagen Golf V 1.6 FSI' to give you recognizable car sounds for lifelike characteristics in your sound design. There may be sound generators out there that offer smooth RPM transitions and whatnot, but do they give you hefty noises from every part of the engine and body as the vehicle barrels down the road? This library also includes reversing, passbys, tire squeals, interior recordings, and plenty more for over an hour of material. As Soundholder has shown us before, they know cars, so give this one a listen!
Soundholder couldn't stop at just one new car library, and they took it up a notch! 'BMW F12 640D Gran Coupe' features this German sports car equipped with a twin turbo diesel engine. It's a car that doesn't hold back, and neither did the team as they put the gas to the floor to reach autobahn-worthy speeds. The library also includes foley of the seat belts, doors, and mechanisms, as well as various road conditions and driving styles. If you need a car sound library, these are some great options.
'Distant Blast' by Lukáš Tvrdoň has heavy explosions professionally designed so they can be dropped right onto your timeline. This library has over 80 files of explosions that give you the feeling there is a faraway war creeping up on your doorstep. Each blast lasts a few seconds, and for the price they can save you in a pinch without much effect on your bank account. If you need designed blasts that will give your audience the terrible feeling of human destruction, this is a library to check out.
'Countryside – Nature & Field' by Fox Audio Post-Production has the tranquil sounds of rural life as told by its birds, insects, water sources, livestock, and farmers. These 14 ambiences make up over an hour of content and are conveniently broken up into 30 loops lasting 2 minutes each for interactive use. Talk about a time save! Plus, it includes different times of day and perspectives of the animals. If you need country soundscapes that are ready for your Unreal or Unity project, give this library a listen.
You might have robot sounds, but are they as precious as this one? 'Bleep – Cute Robot Voice' by Sonic Worlds has over 200 vocalizations with a range of expressions including affection, sadness, fear, surprise, laughter, relief, confusion, anger, and more. This little machine's voice has an endearing warble and plenty of variations, making it great for prototyping characters, too! For a sound library that considers being called 'robotic' a compliment, be sure to give it a listen.
'Night Cityscapes' by West Wolf is a beautifully captured library that has the immersive, lonely atmospheres of a city at rest. Recorded in Sofia, Bulgaria between 01:30 and 05:30, these ambiences capture night traffic, unoccupied city centers, eerie industrial streets, nocturnal birds, lonely taxi cabs, early morning choruses, distant voices and footsteps, and much more. These ambiences make it seem like a whole new world has emerged in the middle of the night - and if you don't believe us, listen to the demo and be transported to its halogen-lit world.
