This week on A Sound Effect, we have six new libraries to enhance your game worlds and scenes with authentic and imaginatively designed qualities. You can hear cars roaring by with memorable engine growls, futuristic doors cracked in cyberpunk missions, and dazzling mobile game SFX that pay homage to PopCap.
There is also a variety of new ambiences and props for all sorts of fantastic worlds, whether they be set in old European cottages, ancient castles, or villages protected from orcs or draugrs.
For sounds you definitely can’t get in your backyard, these libraries have the details to transport your audience to another world.
'Cars In Motion' by Soundholder features 561 sounds of momentum from over a dozen cars. Featuring pass-bys by Audis, BMWs, Jeeps, Volkswagens, Renaults, and even tractors and excavators, each vehicle shows off its distinct engine and turbo to give you accurate qualities for your scenes. These cars not only zoom past, they also come to screeching halts and blast their horns as if they were cut off by another driver. For 340 minutes of focused, useful, extensive, and methodically-recorded car pass-bys, check out this library.
'Old Cottages' by Sound Mind's Michal Fojcik features tons of foley from historic cottages. This library has thick, creaking wooden sounds from heavy barn doors, staircases, windows, floors, and wooden furniture captured as they usually function and performed in rhythms to imitate antique machinery. It also includes squeaking gears, grinding ropes, clanking metal chains, creaking chimney doors, and more for a collection with truly age-old character. Whether you need foley for your scenes at Castle Black or interactive devices in a Bioshock-inspired game, this library will immerse your audience in your world.
'Castles' by Sound Mind's Michal Fojcik has sounds from four castles in southern Poland. From the thick, defensive Medieval fortresses to lavish and ornate Baroque citadels, this library features their doors, ambiences, and wooden and metal objects from various perspectives. It includes reverberating chains and shackles, squeaking chairs and window shutters, creaking footsteps, and even horrific screams that echo throughout a torture chamber. With 243 sounds and 213 minutes of content, you will have authentic reverb and props for scenes of royal banter and gothic horror.
'Dimensions' by Melee Sound Design has a wide variety of unique, ready-to-go entrances for your interactive project. Taking place in the imaginative worlds found in science fiction, this collection has 459 sounds of doors, lifts, vaults, gates, and elevators that will help set or blend in with the cyberpunk tone of your scenes. It also includes foley of buttons, handles, exhaust, and hydraulics so your entrances will appear as complex as the high-tech, classified information they protect. For detailed futuristic door sounds, this library will quickly find its place in your project.
'Vibrant Game' by Epic Stock Media has shiny, happy sounds that will match the colorful and pleasing balance of your gameplay. With musical tones, brilliant textures, and effects that subconsciously indicate a positive or negative action, this library will help you teach and reward your players. Available in both 96kHz/24bit and 44.1kHz/16bit, these 503 SFX can also be further manipulated to match your puzzles or dropped right into your Wwise project. To expedite your workflow so you can start building a fan base, check out this collection.
'Fantasy World' by Epic Stock Media is a collection of High Fantasy designed ambiences that will give an instant sense of adventure to your game. Featuring worlds inspired by the beloved landscapes of Tamriel, Azeroth and Middle-earth, this library has over two hours of environments with easy to find names like 'Assassin Camp', 'Cold Tunnel', 'Sanctuary' and 'Travelers Rest'. Each track is thick with atmosphere, and they conveniently loop so as to not break immersion. For sounds that are just begging to give your open-world games a dramatic and touchable quality, give these a listen.
