This week on A Sound Effect, we have libraries that are beautiful, intriguing, and give you a new way to look at certain items. You’ll hear the bewitching ambiences of Texan deserts, a huge collection of city and suburban soundscapes, and culturally insightful sounds from Canada and Central America. You’ll also hear unusual objects semantically designed as ‘voices’ and ‘doors’, and bass drops that will give your scenes a dramatic LFE quality. Happy listening!
Evan Buist at Junglesonic has an ear for 'fauna' and this library is a great example of his skill. 'Sounds of Central America' features ambiences from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, as well as a few recordings from Belize and Cuba. You'll hear sounds of people at rodeos, fish marks, religious ceremonies, protests, football matches, and on local transportation. You'll also hear screaming monkeys, happy parrots, and sounds from animals and insects that may be hard to identify! For a range of human and animal emotions that will give a genuine quality to your soundscapes, give this one a listen.
'Hidden Voices: Bodyboard' by InspectorJ is a library that has a unique take on a relatively obscure object (depending on where you live). This library has over 1,000 sounds created from a polystyrene bodyboard. These sounds could inspire your project from the creatures of your newly discovered planet to the calculations of the spaceship that traveled there - to the voice of your doomed protagonist, a primate astronaut! If you're looking for vocalizations that have both a foreign and familiar quality, this is one to hear.
There is nothing like the sound of a desert at night, and Thomas Rex Beverly captured the very best of these nocturnal soundscapes. In 'High Desert Ambiences 3: Night Choruses', you'll hear memorable howling coyotes, soft crickets, mooing cows, lonesome owls, doves and canyon wrens, and the snorts of the infamous Javelina - a small wild pig that prefers the US/Mexican border as its northernmost home. In this library, you'll also get comprehensive metadata and detailed Soundminer markers - and with several demos available, you can hear the collection's immersive power right now!
'Sub Sonic Bass – Mini Library' by Fox Audio Post-Production is a library focused on those cinematic bass drops you often hear in action and sci-fi trailers and films. This library has 30 bass drops that last from three to seven seconds and reach those ultra-low frequencies that shake your audience to the core. The files are delivered at a 96kHz sample rate, so you'll have the freedom to sync them how you need for maximum impact. For dramatic effects for your trailer, game or song, listen to the demo and feel these heavy drops yourself.
The ever-expanding 'Collected Ambiences' series by SoundBits has reached a bundle of 11 collections for a great deal! Each library has 33 backgrounds that cover a variety of places like markets, train stations, residential areas, parks, forests, cityscapes, weather, fairs, factories, beaches, and many others. All together you get over a day's worth (24 hours!) of soundscapes with descriptive metadata. The files were also cleaned and many seamlessly loop. If you need instantly usable ambiences at an incredible price, you won't find a better deal than this.
'Sounds of Canada' by Junglesonic captures the sounds of British Columbia from its residents to its wildlife. You'll get sounds of aggressive fans at a football game, hubbub and announcements on the Skytrain, cheering at the Vancouver Marathon, gondola and ski lodge ambiences, rainforest and bay wildlife, and much more. From the areas to the conversations, each recording is uniquely Canadian and lasts an average of 2 minutes. Did we mention the sounds of Vancouver’s famous steam-powered organ clock? More surprises are ahead, so give it a listen!
'Doors' by Anti-Node Design has sounds that humans and perhaps grains of rice may consider entrances. This library has sounds of doors to wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, refrigerators, microwaves, rice cookers, desk drawers, DVD players, washing machines, and more. You'll also hear sounds of windows, Japanese Shoji and fusuma sliding doors, curtains, fish fryers, etc. for the textures you need to create interesting portals. If you have entryways and storage units that need sound effects, this library will make them touchable and memorable.
