A ton of new libraries have been added to A Sound Effect, and if you’re looking for more ambisonic sound libraries, we have you covered! In this recap, you can hear immersive ambiences of Inauguration Day protests in Philadelphia, New Zealand farm life, Californian parks and beaches, ski mountains and Northern shores, urban and small city traffic, and passing freight trains. You’ll also hear the harsh skids of flashy drivers, the hissing and whistling of coffee and tea brewing, and the creaks and hums of worn-out objects. With all these new libraries and new sound effects creators, there are plenty of objects and perspectives for you to hear.
The recordists at Pole Position Production seized the chance to record a cottage as it burned to the ground, from the inside and out! In an upcoming post, they will share their experiences recording 'The Burning House Library' with how they got involved with the structure's demise and their rig setup, but right now you can hear various intensities of burning, crackling, and debris from exterior perspectives in this library, as well as the frightening interior perspective of fire spreading throughout the building. For blazing sounds that will be hard to find anywhere else, check this library out.
Thomas Rex Beverly captured American history through the passionate chants of those expressing their beliefs. 'Philadelphia Crowds and Protest Chants' features three political protests that took place around the Phillie area just after the 2016 US election. While many chants relate to current events and political figures, such as 'Hey, Ho, Donald Trump has got to go!' and 'No hate, no fear, refugees are welcome here!', it also has choruses of 'Shut it down!' and 'This is what democracy looks like!'. Whether your piece is about US politics or you need the fervent sounds of protest, this is a library like no other!
Pole Position Production has another fun and risky library to capture with sounds of vehicles as they shred their tires across the pavement. 'Skids & Screeches Tarmac Library' has sounds of skids, screeches, spins, burnouts, and drifts on wet and dry tarmac for tons a variations that will fit your chase scenes, races, and even maybe the voices of your mythical beasts. You'll also hear onboard and exterior perspectives as well as driving on a flat tire. Pole Position Production has shown they know vehicle recording, so give this specialized library a listen!
'The Snow' by VSCRL FX features wintery sounds from the ridges of California's Mammoth Mountain to the icy shores of Duluth, Minnesota. In this ambisonic library you can hear chilly atmospheres as shards of ice are gently pushed onto rocky Lake Superior shores or as cold winds rush through pine trees and fields. You can also hear ambiences of people racing down Mammoth on skis and sleds, as well as walla from the ski lifts. If you need surround and ambisonic recordings of winter activities, listen to (or watch!) this library's demo.
If you can't decide which library to purchase from new seller VSCRL FX, then why not buy them all for a great deal? 'VSCRL Volume I' is a bundle of their first four libraries, The Park, The Road, The Snow, and The Beach, for a collection of ambisonic sound libraries that will put you right in the middle of their wide open soundscapes. You'll get ambiences of icy shores, sandy beaches, LA traffic, peaceful parks, basketball games, skateparks, and more from all over Southern and Northern California, and even Northern Minnesota. If you need a variety of ambisonic ambiences and you don't know where to start, this is the perfect collection!
'Freight Trains – Vol. 2 Binaural Recordings' by Kevin Durr is a quick collection of over a half hour of freight train rumbles, and it gives you lots of bang for your buck. These immersive, binaural recordings capture every creak and boom from these monsters as they roll by, making this a great pack for not only picture synced sound design but also ambiences, drones, and impacts for trailers and experimental sounds. Plus, you'll get blasting horns and dinging traffic bells from before the train arrives. For a small but mighty library of train sounds, this is one to consider.
'The Home Barista' by UberDuo focuses on one of our favorite morning rituals. This up-close, clean collection features the entire coffee-making process with sounds of scooping and grinding beans, brewing the cup of joe with an automatic drip, French press, or espresso machine, and adding the drink to a thermos or cup. It includes sounds of making tea, too, with the whistling of a kettle, filling a ceramic or metal pot, and scooping in sugar. Whether you have a scene in a coffee shop or you are looking for some new sounds to manipulate, these effects will make you think you can smell those beans and frothy milk.
GainWalkers has packaged a household sound collection with a twist: they're all from 'Old Stuff'. In this library you'll hear sounds that will flesh out your environment and make it feel like a living area like creaking doors, old computers, garage fans, pull chain toilets, refrigerators and freezers, elevators, sewing machines, speaker hums, and more. Plus, most sounds have several variations, making it a great library for interactive use, too. If you need a collection of ambiences that surround us every day, this is one to check out.
'New Zealand – North Island Ambience' by The Sound Keeper gives you atmospheres from an envious exploration of New Zealand. Featuring areas like Taupo, Waitomo, Manawatu, Auckland, Great Barrier Island, and more, these beautiful soundscapes capture the island's distinct birds, wild forests, domestic cows, crickets, and streams for a collection that drips with tranquility. It even includes ambiences captured during another jealousy-inducing week-long vacation in Sydney. Whether you're looking for the feel of NZ or another reason to take a trip there yourself, give this library a listen.
